MANAGING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS PROJECT
Part 1: Establishment of Project proposal
P1: Devise project aims or objectives
The aim of the project is to set up a new restaurant, which will compete with McDonalds in the
UK market. The trainee consultant has to examine the opportunities and threats in the local
market of the UK and offer adequate suggestions to the client, who has approached the
consultancy firm. The aims and objectives of the project are described as follows:
Project aim
The primary aim of the project is to investigate the feasibility of business opportunities for the
restaurant business. However, the project will mainly focus on investigating the demands or
interests of the consumers in the UK. Besides, the client has the intention to develop the new
restaurant as a competitor of McDonalds and thus the business consultant needs to thoroughly
examine the macro factors and market trends in the UK market (Kerzner and Kerzner 2017).
Besides, the analyst will outline possible marketing strategies to develop the business in an
effective manner. On the other hand, business analysts will also recognize various risks and
define specific deadlines to meet the goals of the client. To identify the best suitable strategies,
the analyst cum researcher will use both secondary as well as primary research methods. Both
qualitative and quantitative methods can be used to find out the adequate data.
Project Objectives
ï‚· Identify the brand positioning strategies in the UK environment to start the restaurant
business.
ï‚· Critically evaluate the target market and associated demands of UK consumers
regarding food menus.
ï‚· Defining the marketing or business goals, which is enhancing profits
ï‚· Research effective marketing strategies and forecast the budget to devise the plan
ï‚· Besides, positioning or placing the restaurant in adequate areas is also necessary.

P2: Project management plan
It is the most vital part of any project proposal. The plan is developed by the trainee business
analyst to establish the restaurant and acquire a significant amount of customer instead of the
presence of McDonalds. The plan will be evaluated by the immediate line manager and if the
plan is feasible will be presented to the client (Kerzner and Kerzner 2017).
The vital components of the plan are highlighted below:
ï‚· Scope statement: It indicates the possibility of the project, which is setting the
restaurant in the local market of the UK. Besides, the scope is developed with SMART
principles, which are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound. In
the context of the given scenario, the scope will offer various target markets like certain
areas of London for the development of the restaurant (Pheng 2018). Thus, a huge
number of customers can come to the restaurant.
ï‚· Success Factors: The restaurant must offer innovative food menus and quality taste.
Besides, the operational budget and quality of the raw material will also play a vital part
in the success rate of the budget. On the other hand, certain customer benefits and
employee satisfaction factors also can be included in this section
ï‚· Deliverables: It specifies the products or services that are intended to be delivered.
Here, quality service and food menus will be delivered (Radujković and Sjekavica
2017).
ï‚· Schedule: It defines the timeline, which is estimated by the client for delivering the
project
ï‚· Budget: Certain budgeting factors like marketing or promotion, production, supply
chain management, and market research process require a moderate range of funds. The
budget for the project is explained below:
Budgeting
factors Forecasted budget Purpose
Market research 3000 GBP To identify the proficient marketing scope

ï‚· Defining Quality: It includes certain quality standards, which will be used food and
safety, business operations and trades or marketing
ï‚· Workforce plan: It is also called as Human resource planning, where the desired
amount of workforce and their skills, as well as responsibilities to achieve the
organizational goal, is defined.
ï‚· Listing stakeholders: The stakeholders with the project are the investors, restaurant
owner, consumers, supply vendors, land owner, and government. Before starting the
restaurant, the client must realize their behavior and exceptions from the company
ï‚· Registering risks: Certain risks can occur like better food menus created by
McDonalds, low pricing and high quality.
ï‚· Procurement Plan: It refers to the contingency plan like extra funding, backup list of
suppliers and various sub-contractors, which can be used in emergencies. Besides,
alternate marketing strategies or channels also should be defined.
P3: Work breakdown structure (WBS) to define stages and a Gantt chart for the
timeframe
Work Breakdown Structure
The WBS defines the certain stages of the project, which helps to understand the stages of the
project in a better manner (Tonchia, 2018). The following figure shows the stages of the
restaurant entrepreneurship in the UK market

according to the project plan will help to accomplish the goal in a timely manner and thus
certain milestones can be achieved (Bryman 2017).

However, the project manager must observe or monitor each of the activities so that the deficits
can be identified at an early stage. Thus, the execution can be done successfully with minimal

D1: Critically assess the process of project management
The initial stage of the project proposal includes developing objective and aim of the project.
These factors can help to develop an effective project management plan. On the other hand, the
plan specified the success factors, quality standards and forecasted budget, which is extremely
helpful to accomplish the goals. The plan also defined workforce plans and based on these
various restaurant staffs like, chefs, managers and marketing executives can be recruited.
Besides, it will also help to define adequate wages for them. Furthermore, listing various
stakeholders and identifying their roles will certainly help the restaurant to grow in the domestic
market of the UK (Bryman 2017). Meanwhile, the assessed risk and the associated
procurement plan will surely help the restaurant to tackle with various MNC companies
including McDonalds.

Part 2: Performing research and data collection to produce knowledge
P4: Conduct small-scale research with quantitative and qualitative methods
Purpose of Research
The research is conducted to gather various relevant data through certain data mining
methodologies. The proper method will help to identify certain issues in the UK market for the
food industries. Besides, the research will also clarify the globalization concept, which will help
the client to set up the new restaurant. Usually, data is collected with quantitative or qualitative
approaches (Creswell and Creswell 2017).
Quantitative method
The method highlights the statistical or numerical analysis of data, which is collected through,
questionnaires, surveys, and polls. The research design is developed either in the descriptive or
experimental manner (Faraday 2016).
Descriptive research: It is used to portray the demographics or characteristics of the UK
population. Thus, consumer behavior and their respective demands according to culture, society
or affordability can be thoroughly examined (Bryman 2017).
Experimental research: It is a scientific and systematic approach, where a series of variables
are involved to measure the concept.
Usually, data collection is done through two distinguished approaches, namely primary and
secondary research
Primary Research: It is done through surveys and interviews. The locals and business
professionals from the UK can be involved in the research to gather their opinions. It is
primarily done through quantitative methods (Jusoh et al. 2018). Researchers use various
questionnaires and statistical data of the respondents to gather a reliable finding from the
respondents.
Secondary research: This kind of research is done through both qualitative and quantitative
methods. A number of journals, business magazines, news articles, website contents, e-books,
