Education is important for many of the reasons for an individual as well as for society. It helps
to uplift the standard of living as it removes many of the social issues illiteracy and poverty
(Saini 2018). Further to say every person has a right to education as his/her human right. The
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specific
agency of united nations. This agency is the only UN agency, which covers all the aspects related
to education (Ezez. 2019). This agency provided few fundamentals related to the right to
education. These principles include principles of solidarity, universal access to education, non-
discrimination, and equality of opportunity (Ezez. 2019).
Staring the discussion over these principles this is to state that principle of nondiscrimination
ensure that all that every person must have right to education without facing any discrimination
based on sex, race, color, language, national or social origin, religion, political or other opinion,
economic condition or birth (UNESCO 2017). The situation seems to be very idol but this is not
true in actual. I would like to share my experience of education here. I am from a minority
community of the society, which people often see in an offensive manner. The incident is 4 years
old when i went high school for the admission. I still remember that day. There were total 40
seats available in the class and students were required to give an exam to get one seat. This
examination was important for me, as I badly wanted to take the admission in that school only.
Later on, after reviewing the question paper I have realized that the tutor set out very typical
question paper to the minority students so that they cannot pass the examination and cannot take
the admission in that particular school. I was not the only student, which belonged to the
minority community. This is not the only incident of my life but some more are also there. As
mentioned above many other principles also been provided by UNESCO, another principle to
discuss is equality of opportunity and treatment. This is one of the basic principles of UNESCO,

which reflect in its mission to collaborate among nations regarding the advancement of
educational opportunities and equality. As the name implies this principle, ensure the equal
opportunities of education to every person. Another incident, which I have personally
experienced, is related to my childhood. When I was in primary school, there was a provision of
extra classes for the students who were used to join from a mid-semester. However, this facility
was only available to Christian students as the people who were Christian administered the
school. It is about not only the extra classes but in addition to this, many other opportunities and
preferences were there which were only available to Christian students. This includes free books,
weekend classes, special notes, and many others. Not from being that particular religion, I faced
many inequalities in opportunities, which were not available to me. I was not allowed to ask my
doubts/queries because there was a separate query solving class, which was again accessible to
Christian students only. The guidelines provided by UNESCO on the matter of right to education
say that each person has the right to get equal quality of education via minimum standard and
quality teaching and supplies for the teacher. My childhood school did not provide such quality
teaching to all students. In general, they have very less qualified teachers with no experience,
which were used to teach every student over there. As stated earlier, that for Christian students
there were certain additional classes, I would like to share that these classes have well trained
and qualified teachers but I could not take my education from them even being from the same
school. In this manner, the school did not comply with the guidelines prescribed by UNESCO
and did not properly provide the right to education to students in a manner in which the same
was required to provide. My experience with this school was not good, as I, felt discriminated
many times with the other students. It affected my studies and became a hurdle in my personal

growth as well. In a conclusive way, I can say that the practices adopted by both of the schools
were not accorded with UNESCO's guidelines.
