Introduction
The discussion is based on identifying as well as describing a technological trend of
‘Robotics’ which was discussed in week 3 and 4. In doing so, the paper will critically discuss
the impact of robotics on the society, the workplace as well as environmental sustainability
after identifying the trend properly. In general, robotics can be seen as an interdisciplinary
research area that lies at the interface of computer science and engineering (CSE) (Carrozza,
2018). The new trend robotics often involves construction, design, operation, as well as the
use of robots for social welfare (Rossiter, 2019).
Working with Technology: Robotics
In the digital era, technology is trending in every area of life whether it is daily
activities, healthcare, education or military services (Rossiter, 2019). It has been found that
the key goal of robotics is to create as well as design intelligent machines which can further
help as well as assist human beings in their daily lives for keeping everyone safe (Weiss,
Lgelsbock, Wurhofer, & Tscheligi, 2011). In this context, technologies based on robotics
often consist of many processes which are required to design, build and thereby maintain
robots for the benefit of environmental sustainability, workplace, and society. To do this,
intelligent machines like robots are working as sophisticated, intelligent systems while being
used to assist maneuver spacecraft and pilots without direct human interventions (Sabanovic,
2010).
In the context of the workplace, if robots can take over the most challenging tasks of
any kind of job, then modern workers will experience less purposiveness (Kanda & Ishiguro,
2016). However, workplace outcomes will get more accurate and efficient while being
executed by robots. In addition to that, teaming up with robots at contemporary workplaces
may always lead to expanding opportunities, knowledge, skills and better outcomes. Thus, it
can be said that the robotics trend is leading to higher self-esteem and better social
recognition in modern workplaces (Rossiter, 2019).
Furthermore, robotics is impacting society in two ways include positive and negative
(Gaskell, 2018). It is because such an impact of robotics on society also influences
employment along with the motivation of employees in the workplace. Robotics in the health
care sector has major positive impacts on global society. For example, replacing humans with

robots is beneficial for society from the health and wellbeing perspective (Rossiter, 2019).
Most importantly, robotics is impacting societies in a good way through the evolved health
care sector whenever there are challenging and unhealthy working environments for human
beings (Siciliano & Khatib, 2016). At the same time, it is difficult to find the impact of
robotics on the social lives of human beings. It is because, robotics can enhance
unemployment and at the same time it can solve countless problems of society with machine
intelligence, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality (Siciliano & Khatib, 2016).
Now, coming to the impacts of robotics on environmental sustainability, several
researchers have found that robotics technology is good and beneficial for the environment
and earth sustainability (Sabanovic, 2010). It is well aware that the environment of earth is
getting polluted due to carbon emissions and hence global warming is increasing day-by-day
(Kaivo-Oja, Roth, & Westerlund, 2017). Thus reducing these carbon emissions is necessary,
and robots are helping to reduce carbon emissions all across the world. It is because robots
can easily build fuel less vehicles, machines cars and also grow food more efficiently as
compared to humans. It has been observed that using fossil-fuelled vehicles is adversely
affecting environmental sustainability and hence impacting on climate change as well
(Gaskell, 2018). Thus, robotics technology-based vehicles, machines and other new
equipment can seriously reduce the whole carbon emission in the world. Robotics’ impact on
the environment can be used to achieve sustainability for all, as robotics-based devices
release no carbon and carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, robotics technology can be used
for reducing the pollution-causing tools as well as trucks required to operate the port and in
the cities as well (Dirican, 2015). In addition, robotics use has been significantly improved
energy and resource efficiency all across the nation and world. In this way, an absolute
reduction in the environmental impact of harmful fuel emission and carbon emission can be
achieved through the use of robotics (Carrozza, 2018).
Conclusion
In whole, the discussion on robotics and robots in the context of modern workplace,
society and environmental sustainability has been conducted successfully. It has been found
that the impacts of robotics on various fields can be studied, evaluated and evolved with the
help of supervision and control of robotics technologies. The findings are suggesting that
robotics in the medical field is evolving and positively helping the whole global society. On
the other hand, robots are working in the workplace for better efficiency and accuracy, for
