INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this report is to demonstrate an understanding of knowledge and aspect
of creativity (Hargie, 2016). The assignment provides the framework for the purpose of
self-development and focuses on improving practices so as to improve the
performance. It also throws light on effective communication skills in the context of
professional development. Moreover, the report produces a need for an action plan for
the purpose of personal and professional development. Besides this; the report provides
insight on higher education and development (Kruss et al., 2015).

LO1 DEMONSTRATE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILL APPLICABLE TO
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL CONTEXT
Communication skill can be defined as an act of conveying meaningful information
through the use of signs, symbols and semiotic rules. It is an important life skill for
achieving career growth and success. Communication can be done in three ways.
 Verbal
This is the most common type of communication that can be done through
spoken words or face to face interactions (Berry, 2011). Non-verbal
It provides the way of communicating the message through posture, experience,
facial expression, hand gesture or any other manner. Thus, it is the process of
conveying meaning without the use of words.
 Visual
This is a way of communicating the message by way of sign, maps, colours or
graphic designs. The use of visual mode can help the speaker to remember
important points.
Importance of communication in an academic context
The skill of reading, writing and listening are the important aspect of communication skill
as well as play an important role in an academic context. It is important to develop good
communication skills for the purpose of sharing knowledge and information effectively.

A strong communication skill is essential so as to understand the information more
accurately and more quickly (Dong et al., 2017).

I can improve my communication skill in the following ways:

Listen
I need to improve my listening skills so as to clearly understand
the message in the same sense as communicated by the speaker.
Learn to listen is about paying full attention to the words of the
speaker and genuinely understanding the subject matter for
providing valuable feedback (Hargie, 2016).
Emotional
awareness
This refers to a sense of understanding the people emotions and
possessing the ability so as to manage those emotions. Therefore, I
must require developing my understanding with respect to positive and
negative emotions that can further help in improving emotional
intelligence.
Questioning
skill
I need to develop my questioning skill that can further help to
understand the message correctly. It is a good habit of asking
questions that can help to collect more information about the topic.
Transmitting
message
It is important to think twice before transmitting the message. This can
further help in avoiding misunderstanding and personal conflicts.
Besides this, I am also required to pay attention to culture, attitude and
past experience before conveying a message (Dong et al., 2017).

A career action plan refers to a document that intends to reflect the individual's
knowledge and also enhance that leads to career development. This planning helps in
identifying the skills that need to be developed within a specified time period and also
provide the reason for improvement. Further, the plan help in clarifying the activities that
are needed to achieve these goals and also improve commitment towards the planned
activities (Walker et al., 2013).

LO4 DEMONSTRATE AN AWARENESS OF GLOBAL CONTEXT OF HIGHER
EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT
Global Awareness is necessary for the purpose of improving conceptual learning and
individual knowledge in context to higher education and employment. This can further
help me to promote my skill and core set of values that are crucial for personal growth
and development (Kruss et al., 2015).
Internet acts as a good source in order to access information from anywhere at any
time. This provides an effective direction for improving the understanding of culture and
each person responsibility in society.
Following are the importance of Global education:
 Global education is important for the development of self-managed learnings and
enhancing thinking & communication skills.
 Education tends to reflect the global realities of the other world and appreciate
diversity and multiculturalism.
