Notes from Discussion:
Assignment answers –
1) Teachers having passion inspire students. Without passion, the students would not be
able to see the vision of the teacher which s/he is trying to impart to them.
2) Being an educator, what keeps my passion alive is the wish to educate the students
around me. I always feel that illiteracy is darkness and effective teaching can help it
eliminate this darkness. Moreover, I keep my mind’s door open always, as knowing
something new makes me feel happy. When I learn these new things, I realise the
need for imparting this knowledge which will make this world a better place. If we
see the political, social, and environmental context around us, we see the need for
reforms and changes that can only be brought by educated people. This feeling of
changing the world by education is a dream that I see every day, which fuels my
desire to become a good educator (Law, 2013). In addition to that, I have a dream to
change this society where the moral compass always seems to turn around. I
genuinely want to build a squad who can think independently for themselves and
make this place better by critically evaluating all the social, political or other aspects
that can bring a change.
3) The book “teach like a pirate” focus on the importance of teaching art, music and
physical education in school (Burgess, 2012). Many schools often neglect all these
aspects which eventually do not help the students to grow fully. Instead, the focus
should also be given on these areas which will help them to lead a balanced and happy
life. It also provides a deeper, richer and meaningful approach to one’s life and
provides them with a better direction. The incorporation of arts in the subject matter
will help an individual to grow fully and become a sensible citizen. This book has also
pointed out the flaws it has in the system of education and the importance of

incorporating arts in the curriculum (Burgess, 2012). One should also encourage the
students to develop their own passion and stick by it; however, it states how the
current education system suppresses it. The necessity of encouraging the students with
what they love should inspire them and help them to achieve their goals (Burgess,
2012). Moreover, it would also enhance their life other than mugging up the texts in
their book for grades. This book tells the educator how to lead a life fully and without
the grimness. Therefore, this book is important as it shows the educators how to
incorporate the aspects that will help them to teach the students more efficaciously
and purposefully.
