Introduction:
Reflection is referred to as the process of identifying strength and weakness and possible threats
and opportunities regarding own skills (Johns, 2017). The current reflection focuses on the
performance, specifically what went well and what could have been improved during the
presentation conducted on the challenges faced in studying business management course.
Evaluating team performance using the Gibbs Reflective model:
Description:
I along with my two team members were given the task to make a presentation on the challenges
of studying business environment and the way; it is possible to overcome the challenges and
thrive in that environment. At first, we divided our task. I took the task of finding relevant
information on the topic. The second team member took the task of writing from the searched
materials. The third member was needed to make the PPT where we have contributed. We made
regular meetings to understand finalise our PPT. We discussed the topic in detail whenever we
get time.
Feelings:
When the team formed, I was super excited as I was about to start working with new people. I
always loved to work with new people as it helped me to improve my interpersonal skills. We
held a few initial meetings and then I started to feel that our team can do well in the presentation
as the other two members were active and self-motivated as well.

Even we were from the same class; we did not have good relationships with each other. Jackson,
Sibson and Riebe (2014) remarked that during the forming stage of a team, team members found
themselves in conflict, but as the team start working with each other, the team starts developing
through storming, norming stage and finally start performing to achieve the intended goal. This
is also true to our group. At first, we did not know each other. But, when started working on the
presentation, we started to know each other. Initially, everyone showed good behaviour.
However, one day, both of the members were absent from a group meeting that was held by
them. I waited a lot, but they never showed up. Next day, when I enquire whereabouts of them,
they did not answer. I thought there might be some personal issues. So, I let the issue subsided.
However, in the next meeting, both of the team members came, but the activeness shown in the
beginning was missing. I took things in my hand and by using my leadership qualities; I tried to
resolve every conflict between us. Both of the members again started working actively on our
presentation, and we almost completed our presentation by helping each other which means we
achieved the status of performing as a team.
However, when the day of the presentation, none of my team members showed up which has
decreased our performance on the team presentation. According to Salas, Rico and Passmore
(2014), excellence in the workplace comes from the team work. This teamwork needs to be
learned from the education field. From this incident, I have understood that without teamwork, it
is difficult to get success as I struggled to give the presentation to the intended audience.
Analysis:
Ambrose (2016) Is of the view that negotiation, conflict resolution, leadership abilities and team
management are the main qualities that are required in the team leader to run a team successfully

towards the objective. I am such a person who always tries to work in a team; give importance to
everyone using my emotional intelligence quality and try to lead the team towards success. I
often took things on my own and help others if they are facing issues. The incidents occurred
during the presentation has let me come to the conclusion that conflict will be there in every
team, but it is the responsibility of the team member to understand the root cause of the conflict
and based on that took necessary steps to solve the conflict.
Conclusion:
Instead of focusing on the topic at the first meeting, I could have focused on knowing each
other’s preferences and choices. I learned that the tasks that my other team members were not
comfortable with the tasks allocated to them. So, I could have made better planning to divide the
task more specifically like dividing sections of the topic, rather than giving a whole part of the
work namely making presentation or writing out of the researched material.
Action plan:
If the same situation arises again, I will try to identify the needs and preferences of my team
members. At first, I will try to develop the team and then I will try to come on the topic so that
conflict do not arise.
Conclusion:
From the above analysis, teamwork is an important factor for achieving the intended goal.
Teamwork and good team leader should be consistent from the beginning to the end for the
success.
