Introduction
According to Terblanche (2018), a supermarket is regarded as a self-service shop that provides a
broad range of food as well as beverages that are organized into shelves as well as sections. A
supermarket is a larger section as compared to grocery stores. Supermarkets provides shelf space
that is mostly reserved for packaged as well as canned commodities as well as services. There
are several supermarkets that sell household goods that are consumed on a regular basis. A
traditional supermarket has occupied a huge floor space that has been based on a single level. A
supermarket is mostly located near a residential area that provides convenience to individuals. In
most of the countries, traditional supermarkets witnesses severe competition from discounters
that includes Wal-Mart and Tesco in the UK, ALDI and Woolworths in Australia. The report
aims to provide an overview about the difference that exists between supermarkets located in
America as well as Australia. Most of the individuals in the US are primed to look for organic
commodities. It has been noted that fresh foods in America comes from all over the world that
comprises of lots of vegetables as well as fruits. These fresh foods are mostly harvested in
Central America. On the other hand, fresh foods that are sold in the Australian supermarkets are
mostly harvested locally. Vogel, et. al. (2016) stated that an American who purchases items from
Australian supermarkets are more prone to miss most of their preferred processed foods as well
as the lack of variety. The Aussies who shop in America are likely to be bewildered by too many
alternatives. They are also likely to struggle to find basic as well as healthy foods at a reasonable
price in American supermarkets.
The supermarket in Australia that is likely to be reflected in the report are Woolworths and
Coles. These are regarded as major supermarket giants that are located in Australia. These
supermarkets have mostly specialized in trading with grocery commodities. The supermarkets
are mostly based on duopoly market structure that comprises of 80 percent of the Australian
market. The supermarket in America that is likely to be reflected in the report are Trader Joe’s
and Publix. These two supermarkets has topped the consumer report list as a part of the best
grocery stores in America. The report will reflect on supply chain strategies that deals with well-
defined policy. This also deals with right tools that helps supply chain professionals to alleviate
