INTERCULTURAL MANAGEMNENT 2Case 2: Ellen MooreA. Case introductionEllen has been working with Systems Consulting Group (SCG). She is working with ateam of several individuals. Ellen is living in a new environment in Asia with newpeople and with different culture which gives the scope of the study. She is alsohandling a project as Andrew and Mr. Song suggests. Ellen has been working on thisproject and for four months, her team had not achieved. Ellen gives excuses based onhaving no experience, background knowledge to take the project into completionwithin the allocated time. The analysis will be based on the analysis of Ellen Moore’s life in Korea andthe projects she had to manage. The life and the projects she carried in South Koreawill act as the base for the study. The hindrances towards successful projectcompletion are evident in the working environment of Moore. There are seen someincidences where the cooperation and response to urgency was not satisfactory andthus, the team in the Korean phenomena failed in its communication ties and roles.B. Identify at least 3 critical management issues, evident from A, that need to besolved in order to achieve the specified goal:1.Proper communication strategiesPeople communicate even before they open their mouth. Communication is key in theKorean setting as the case suggests. A well-established line of management need tooversee that members of the working organisation has a well running or a smoothchannel for making their points and grievances known up to the top management. Forinstance, the co-directors and the consultants and the senior consultants need to bewell versed on communication strategies. Communication will involve the process of

The speaker and the receiver or the audience must hold thebackground organisational factors in consideration like, the good rapport between theco-managers and other lower management levels, proper lines of instructions so thatno cases where the communication will lose direction or fail the group. The specificgoals to deliver the projects, like Ellen project with Mr. Park and other consultantswill be met. Team building and the analysis based research to fit in new environmentfor Ellen will be the subject.2.Respect for the hierarchy in the work placeThe respect of people’s hierarchical position is inevitable for the workers at differentpositions. Ellen testifies how they had to consult the client team member beforegetting to their offices. The status and the position should be valued as a part of theculture.3.Team buildingIn Ellen’s life in Korea, there were some issues that are noted. Teams are integralparts of work environment. Koreans value team work and they put emphasis on teambuilding. Ellen and other workmates are seen to enjoy themselves far from workplaces during their set time. It is aimed at boosting the team members’ relationship.4.Evaluation of the cultural phenomena in the working environmentFamiliarizing oneself with the knowledge on culture of the people around you is veryimportant. Ellen for instance experienced some difficulties in coping with SouthKorea situation. In this part of Asia, the culture was different from the one inAmerica, t6he language was also different. Mannerism, and business etiquette has abig difference. Scot Adams however is an example of a different figure. With hisknowledge in Korean culture, he could at times do better than Ellen in business,
