ACADEMIC PLAGIARISM AND INTEGRITY
Academic integrity is an essential element which helps in building trust between the
individuals. It consists of five fundamental values that is Honesty, responsibility, trust, respect
and fairness (Birks and et.al., 2018). Academic integrity help in development of professionalism.
That is it help in development of behaviours which are consistent with ethical and professional
expectation in the business environment. The present essay shows the importance of academic
integrity in relation with professionalism in the business environment. It also presents the
importance of business etiquettes for establishing a positive workplace environment.
Academic plagiarism refers to when there is use of repeated words upto four words by a
writer from a printed source without any reference and use of appropriate quoting it is called
academic plagiarism (Carter and Forehand, 2019). Also, when there is no serious interaction
with new insights or any person's viewpoint in continuous paraphrasing it is also called
academic plagiarism. It can be analysed that academic writing is considered a fraud and
dishonesty towards the readers. It is very important to maintain academic integrity. That is
professionalism not only refers to having expertise in practical, theoretical or technical skills but
it includes personal and professional integrity and ethical behaviour. It can be analysed that
academic integrity in more than just deflecting dishonesty such as contract cheating, plagiarism
etc. however, it implies with engaging in work that is well competed, focused and done with a
good purpose.
Academic integrity is considered important because the dishonest behaviour of an
individual affects its credibility and its learning (Abbott and Nininger, 2021). On the positive
note, academic integrity safeguards one's reputation and contributes in the well being of the
community. Also, academic integrity is considered a crucial element in the business environment
that is it helps an individual in building trust among its colleagues and peers. Because trust is
considered one of the most important element in leading towards a successful business.
Therefore, it becomes very important in establishing trust around the business field.
On a critical note it can be evaluated that in workplace environment integrity comes in
various forms (Bloomfield and Fisher, 2021). But, majorly it involves having the traits and
characteristics of work ethics such as loyalty, honesty, judgement and dependability. It is very
important that an individual possess the character traits of ethical code so that it help them in

gaining respect and trust in the business environment. On the other hand, integrity consists of
four elements that are ethical principles, justice, motivation and coherence which are considered
significant in business environment. Enacting academic integrity in business environment refers
to taking action with trust, respect, fairness, honesty, responsibility, courage and avoiding
dishonest and cheating actions.
It can be also critically evaluated that academic integrity not only includes traits and
characteristic of professionalism but also business etiquettes play an important role in academic
integrity (Hossain, 2020). That is Business etiquettes refers to the collection of rules which
governs the way an individual react in business environment with its clients, suppliers, peers etc.
that is with higher understanding of business etiquettes it helps in creating an atmosphere where
there is repeat and professionalism and which enhances the communication. Therefore, it is very
important for establishing a positive workplace environment there is proper implication of
business etiquettes. With learning business etiquettes with academic integrity it will help an
individual in creation of relationship in the workplace that it will improve the their
communication skills.
On further note, it is very important that an individual must develop its communication
skills both in written as well as verbal communication skills. That is effective communication is
the key to success (Guerrero-Dib and Heredia-Escorza, 2020). With development in the
communication skills it will help not only the individual in professional but also in personal life.
It help in building relations that will result in enhancing the personal ad company's image as
well. That will further lead to growth of the company. However, with ineffective communication
skills it will lead to lack of coordination among the ream members and will lead to lack of
productivity affecting the company's growth. However, it can be analysed that academic integrity
not only important is business environment but also it helps in effective leadership in an
organization, that is with the traits of honesty and integrity. It will help a leader in gaining the
trust of its followers and will inspire them and motivate them to work towards the organizational
goals. Thus, leading the company towards growth and success.
Also, it is very important that an organization inculcates appropriate rules and values that
promotes academic integrity and honesty (Iqbal and et.al., 2019). So that it governs the
employees behaviours and give them a purpose to work towards the organizational goals with a
manner prescribed by the organization. Values and rules play a key role in establishing a healthy

workplace environment in business. Therefore, it is very important that they are clearly stated
and understood. Thus, it is very important that the organizational policy and rues are framed in
manner that are in accordance with the integrity of individuals and which do not inculcate or
promote any practices which are disrespectful or dishonest (Anoopa and et.al., 2019).
From the above essay it can be concluded that integrity is one of the crucial element in a
business environment. For a positive business environment it is important that it inculcates
academic integrity. It not only helps in development of professional but also helps in establishing
a relationship of trust and respect in the workplace environment. Also, it can be summarised that
business etiquettes also plays a significant role in the business environment. Therefore it must be
kept in mind while development of academic integrity. It helps organisation in achieving their
objectives and leading towards success. However, development of effective communication
skills is very vital for establishing a positive business environment which promotes cooperation
and coordination. Thus, organisation rules and values should also be formulated with
consideration of the business etiquettes and integrity that will govern its employees towards
organisational goals.
