INTRODUCTION
Personal development plan is an effective method through which individuals understand
their weak areas and the areas where they need improvement. According to it the plan is
developed on the bases of awareness and value (Driessen and van Tartwijk, 2014). There are
various areas in which the personal development plan is required according to the current skills
and knowledge of the individuals. This report is based on academic skills and personal
development plan where main objective is to identify short, medium and long term goals and
accordingly develop the action plan to achieve them.
Task One:
Concept of personal and professional development
Personal and professional development is a continuous process which helps in enhancing
the skills and abilities of individuals. Personal development is a lifelong process which help
individuals in assess their qualities based on their aims and set goals and objectives with the
motive to maximise their potential. Professional development is important for the growth and
development in the career where with the use of set tools and resources the focus of the
individual is to improve their practical learning qualities (Greytak, Kosciw and Boesen, 2013).
The value of short term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Short term goals are the one which are set by individual to be accomplished in the short
span of time that is within few weeks or months. These goals help in bridging the gap that is
between current position and the place where they want to stand.
To acquired knowledge in the field of computer which help in the designing of business.
To improve writing skills in order to formulate the plans and provide better
understanding to the team.
Focus is to improve and enhance communication skills so that messages could be deliver
in effective manner (Tarrant, 2013).
The value of medium term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Medium team goals are set by individuals which contributes in the accomplishment of
long terms objectives. These goals are set with the motive to accomplished them in the time span
of 2-6 months.

Motive is to enhance my knowledge and able to understand various aspects of business
management through theoretical knowledge in the time span of 6 months.
Motive is to enhance and develop presentation skills as it is important in carrying
business operations in effective manner.
Another medium team objective is to build connection with talented and skilled
individuals who will guide in new business (Kanarek and Lehman, 2013).
The value of long term goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Long term goals are the one which help in achieving the mission of the business. These
goals are set with the motive to achieve long term benefit in the business. Long term goals
include strategic planning, it implementation, monitoring and controlling.
Long term goal is to work in the reputed organization and acquire practical knowledge on
various aspects of business.
Motive is to earn money for establishing own business and to become financially stable.
Another goal is to establish business goodwill and brand value in the marketplace.
Description and discussion of the value of a Personal Development Plan and construction of an
example using my goals
Personal development plan is an effective method which helps in developing action plan.
These plans provide direction to individuals regarding what they have to achieve and work in
that direction. (Covered in appendix)
Task Two:
Description and discussion of how ‘Author, Purpose, Reliability and Relevance’ affect the use of
a source
Author- These are the one who have effective and quality knowledge on specific topics
and provide valuable data on them to everyone (Herbert and Rainford, 2014).
Purpose- The purpose is to understand the nature and needs of the readers.
Reliability- The reliability play significant role that is the proof of the knowledge.
Relevance- The research or topic on which information is provided must have
appropriate and relevant data (Zepeda, 2012).
Author, Purpose, Reliability and relevance, these all are important from the point of view of
reader as these segments helps in making the literature authentic and reliable. This means reader
