INTRODUCTION
Academic study is utilised for describing the things which are related to task done into
colleges, schools, colleges, universities that includes studying as well as reasoning beside
technical or practical skills. Moreover, the academic skills are considered as approaches utilised
to learn. These skills are an array of competencies that face the procedures to organise and take
into new information, retaining data or deal with assessments. The topic which are discussed in
this report are development of portfolio of evidence that shows academic study skills
development, and reflection on essential learning incident with assistance of Gibbs reflective
cycle. Moreover, Collate an annotated bibliography for 3 sources, summarising findings, process
to identify relevant sources and assess the sources credibility. Apart from this, using research
article interpret the quantitative and qualitative data, evaluation of research article quality and
relevance of the findings to health and social care practices are also explained in this report.
MAIN BODY
TASK 1
1.1: Develop a portfolio of evidence showing development in academic study skills.
Portfolio of evidence is undertaken as accumulation of documents which individuals are
needed for compiling to represents competence against a certain set of learning outcomes as well
as to an effective standard. In addition to this, academic skills are considered as approaches
utilised to learn. These skills are an array of competencies that face the procedures to organise
and take into new information, retaining data or deal with assessments. The effective study skills
may maximise individual’s confidence, skills and self- esteem. They may also minimise anxiety
related to deadlines & test. Through developing efficient study skills, it can able to cut down
upon various hours that spends studying, leaving more period for other things of life. Some of
the academic study skills such as communication skills, time management skills, note taking
skills and many others. So, after course completion for engaging into professional growth and
long term career I joined a local hospital as mental health nurse. The initial 2 to 3 month is of
training during that I was able to gain various skills such as communication skills, time
management skills, note taking skills and many others. All these assist me to perform my job in
effective and efficient way.

Time management is regarded as various methods & competencies that intent to enhance
efficiency, effectualness and productivity through planning, arranging, allocating, prioritising,
delegating and so on. During metal health nurse practice, I can able to develop my time
management skills, which aids me to become much effective to balance my work life.
Additionally, by taking notes related to patient details such as their medicine time, their needs
and others. All these help me to improve my note taking skills much effectively and also helpful
to perform my responsibilities with perfection. In addition to this, communication skills is one of
the most essential skills which I have developed during my professional life through
communicating and dealing with various patients and doctors.
I developed note taking skills while taking direction and guidance from my seniors and
making notes about my interaction with the patient. My note taking skills further improved as I
used my daily notes about my nursing experience and interaction with seniors and patients to
make reflective notes on the experience as whole so that I can improve my nursing practices. I
improved my communication skills by observing professional communication and behaviour
from my seniors and other medical staff. Interacting with patients also helped me enhance my
communication skills. I improved my time managed skills by multi-tasking and competing my
duties as a nurse in a timely manner.
1.2: Reflect upon a significant learning incident using an acknowledged model (e.g. Gibbs’
reflective cycle, Johns' model for structured reflection, etc.).
Gibbs reflective cycle was formed by Graham Gibbs in ear 1988 to provide structure to
learn from experiences. Moreover, this provides a framework for analysing experiences and
given their cyclic nature that lends themselves specifically effective to repeated experiences
which allows individuals to learn as well as plan from aspects that either goes well. Also, this
includes six stages and all this represents my experiences as mental health nurse profession:
Description
For my professional and personal development, I chosen the job role as mental health
nurse. Moreover, I am regularly trying to accomplish my competencies as mental health nurses
by practical hours, feedbacks and various learning practices. In addition to this, I also
commenced this particular profession in initial stage of my career for assuring that this would be
always helpful for me to grow personal and professionally.

I was thinking it would be an effective idea to commence this from initial period of my
career. As I would able to evidence overall continued learning and perform over time because
this would be helpful into my practices. In addition to this, current I am happy to perform my
roles and responsibilities along with my growth though as time continue.
Evaluation
While performing the particular job role, effective experiences that i gained through my
working which is being organised and collating the appropriate information needed as a mental
health nurse. Additionally, this allows me to observe the continuous career progress. According
to me, the bad experience that I realises that lifelong learning is crucial for assuring whole skills
that are being accomplish for my career goals.
Analysis
From the above, it has been analysed that, through analysing the situation I personally &
professional feels that I would able to develop my various skills like communications, note
taking skills. But it has been also analysed that time management skills are still weak as I am not
much efficient to management my time in to workplace.
Conclusion
At this, I feel that I might have to focus much on appropriate log of training and so on.
Though being much pro active in evaluating the weak areas. As while performing as mental
health nurse job role I analysed that I developed various of my skills that are communication
skills, note taking and etc. but my times management skills and others are still weak. It would
create problems into my career growth. So, for instance, I would develop PDP Plan.
