Leadership and Culture
As explained by Turnbull & Verity (2012), Adnams has a culture of sustainability and a
good mixture of people who have held specific positions for years, thus gaining more experience
in their particular positions:
 Jonathan Adnams, who is the current Chairman of the company has been instrumental in
improving the company regarding sustainability and innovation (Adnams, 2018). Such
can be seen through the introduction of energy-efficient brewery equipment.
 The company's CEO Dr. Andy Wood has enabled the company to build a resilient
strategy by forming a diversified product portfolio and promoting a leadership focused on
diversified stakeholder values and inspired marketing.
 Adnam's cooperate culture and values are geared towards ensuring that it positively
impacts the society.
 The company's values are grounded in making great products while ensuring
environmental sustainability. It has demonstrated this by partnering with the local
enterprises to develop an anaerobic digestion plant
 The company believes that doing the right thing makes a great business sense
Current Issues and Challenges faced by the Company
 The industry has been dominated by a pool of corporate competitors.
 Social pressures pose a challenge as the company needs to fulfill both economic and
social responsibilities
 The industry is in most cases blamed for promoting excessive use of alcohol, especially
among the youths.

 Wet pubs are in decline.
 The number of non-drinkers and other people who prefer beverages with little alcoholic
content in the UK has increased, thereby diluting the market.
Recommendations
 The company should develop stronger relationships with restaurants and other non-pub
supply premises to sell its beer and spirits because the number of pubs has continued to
demise since the introduction of the smoking ban.
 The company should diversify its product portfolio to include non-alcoholic beverages to
cater to the growing number of non-drinkers.
 The company needs to major in innovation to keep pace with the diverse and challenging
alcoholic drinks market.
 The company should make attempts to promote targeted and direct partnerships with
other premises like clubs or send mobile bars to make people taste their products as a way
of advertising to be ahead of the competition.
 The company should expand to other countries which have not been occupied by its
competitors as a way of gaining a wider market coverage.
