INTRODUCTION
Management is considered as an efficient way of administrating the services, processes
and operations of an organisation (Anderson and et.al., 2018). The process of management
involves five basic factors in order to achieve an efficient and appropriate handling and
controlling. These areas involve planning, coordinating, organising, directing and monitoring.
The actual forte of management is to make the processing of all the processes smooth enough
that it can have a positive impact on the employees and the overall environment of the
organisation.
The report is about analysing the issue of high staff turnover in the Imperial hotel as the
hotel is undergoing the problem of staff turnover and that too at a much higher rate. It has been
observed that 80% of the staff has decided to leave the hotel and this can create various further
issues such as dissatisfaction of customers, lower productivity rate etc. There are various
management theories that can be applied in order to minimize the issue of employee turnover,
thus motivating the employees so that they can stay focused enough so that it can help the
Imperial hotel to achieve all the outcomes and targets. As the Imperial hotel is currently facing
problems with the employee turnover, it is very important to resolve it as it is further causing
other issues such as poor guest satisfaction, negative work culture, ineffective management etc. It
is obvious enough that when there will be fewer employees, the rest ones must not be able to
satisfy all the requirements of the customers. Thus, it creates further issues. Also, there are
various other issues as there is the issue of ineffective leadership, much of the staff is on sick
leave etc. This however contributes to a negative work culture of the Imperial hotel. Also,
various methods including the use of management theories to resolve the issue have also been
included.
Analysis of the issue
The issue that has been analysed in the Imperial hotel is going through presently is the
higher rate of staff turnover as 80% of the staff is leaving the hotel this year. Imperial hotel has
been undergoing a huge employee turnover and the possible reasons may be because of the less
amount of wages being provided to them, part-time workers leaving the company, less
motivation and encouragement by the authorities. As per the exit interviews of some employees
who were leaving the company, it has been analysed as the employees of the hotel were having
various issues with the Imperial hotel, because of which they decided to move out of the

Analysis of the issue
The issue that has been analysed in the Imperial hotel is going through presently is the
higher rate of staff turnover as 80% of the staff is leaving the hotel this year. Imperial hotel has
been undergoing a huge employee turnover and the possible reasons may be because of the less

motivation and encouragement by the authorities. As per the exit interviews of some employees
who were leaving the company, it has been analysed as the employees of the hotel were having

company. These reasons involve poor work culture of the hotel, aggressive supervisory, lack of
proper training, fewer chances of increments etc. A negative work culture also leads to the
dissatisfaction of the customers. This has thrown a huge negative impact on the staffing budgets
of the hotel. It is because the hotel is left with a few amounts of staff, so it is quite hard to
manage the customers and all other processing. This has increased the budget for the staff as well
because if they will also leave the hotel, the condition of the hotel will become worse. When
there is a limited staff available, the possibility of not attending the customers properly increases
to a huge extent. This further leads to the poor guest satisfaction. Also, when various employees
are on a sick leave, it however makes the culture more negative.
Resolution of the problem
As per the new general manager, the situation can be managed by involving a few
factors. If the authorities at the Imperial hotel ensure the fact to promote some staff members to a
higher position, it might help in affecting the overall turnover (Hoque, 2013). Also, if proper
induction and training is being provided to the staff members about the ways that should be used
to deal and interact with the customers, it will help the employees in managing quite better the
situations. This will also help in maintaining their focus towards achieving all the targets and
goals of the hotel. The hotel can also involve the factor of providing some sort of motivation and
encouragement to the employees such as incentives or increments on a regular basis because this
is considered as an efficient means by which the employees can also consider the fact that they
are important for the company. It further helps in maintaining their focus on the objectives of the
company. The leaders made by the authorities should be efficient enough that they can be able to
control the situation in an efficient way and also be able to provide support to the employees
working under them. It is important as well because many times, due to various situations and
complexities, employees also need support and help.
. Thus, the contingency theory can help in providing solutions that are more effective and
appropriate in motivating the employees, thus reducing the employee turnover so that the hotel
can be able to achieve a higher rate of popularity as well as productivity. If the Imperial hotel
makes involvement of the contingency theory,is an organizational theory, and there is no best
way to organise a businesses, to lead company and make decision it can help in reducing the
employee turnover rate, thus will help in resolving other issues as well. As when there will be
efficient number of employees, they can be able to reach every customer, thus satisfying their

So, the leader must be efficient enough to provide the support and help to the ones who
require it (Gröschl, 2011). Aggressive supervisory can actually have a negative influence on the
workers as when the leader will be aggressive, the staff members will not able to share and
discuss any idea or issue with them and that can cause further issues. So, the leader should
ensure these factors while dealing with the employees and other staff members. An efficient
range of HR practices can also be provided to the staff and members of the Imperial hotel so that
they can get an idea of how they have to deal with the situation and other members in the hotel.
Also, it will help them in getting aware of their basic roles and responsibilities so that they can
focus on them and help the hotel in achieving all the objectives. Imperial hotel can also provide
performance appraisals to the employees who are worthy enough because by these means, it
helps in maintaining the motivation level of the employee as they also consider that their hard
work has been seen by the hotel and appreciated as well.

A fishbone diagram is considered as a diagram that helps in identifying the actual cause
of the issue so that the root cause can be identified (Nieves and Segarra-Ciprés, 2015). Also, it
seems as a very beneficial option to provide some sort of help to the employees of the Imperial
hotel.
The fishbone diagram here represents the reasons/factors that are actually the root cause
of the problem that is undergoing in the Imperial hotel. The factors that are actually responsible
for causing the issue of employee turnover are considered as less motivation, less wages being
provided to the employees, which also causes dissatisfaction among employees. When
employees are not satisfied, the frustration often seems to have some impact on the work, thus it
can further result into poor guest satisfaction. Also, the hotel was not able to provide proper

training and guidance to the employees, so they were lacking in that as well. Efficient leadership
skills are also a must so that the employees can have a proper guidance and are aware of their
basic role. So, ineffective leadership can also lead to further causing of such complex and
complicated issues. Also, there have been observed that the culture seems quite negative as
various employees are on leaving because they are sick, so the pressure has been put on the rest
of the employees. In such cases, if there is an ineffective leader, it can make the situation worse.
So, proper leadership skills are required to resolve such issues. So, this is also considered as a
factor responsible for employee turnover. Another factor that is responsible for causing
employee turnover is the presence of aggressive supervisors.
Use of management theories for resolving the issue of employee turnover
The main forte of implementing management theories in any organisation is to maximize
the overall productivity of the specific firm. So, in case of Imperial hotel as well, some
management theories can be involved so that the issue of employee turnover can be resolved to a
huge extent. Although there are five management theories that can help but taking examples of a
few that can act suitable and relevant enough for decreasing the rate of employee turnover in the
Imperial hotel. Some management theories are discussed as under:

Contingency theory
Contingency theory is classified as an organisational theory according to which, it says
that instead of involving different ways to increase the productivity of the company, it is
automatically dependent of the external and internal factors. Also, it is considered as one of the
most appropriate and suitable methods of management that can be applied in the current situation
of the Imperial hotel as the hotel is currently facing a higher employee turnover. Recently the
Imperial hotel is facing issues as about 80% of the staff has left the hotel already, thus the
Imperial hotel is facing a huge employee turnover because of which it is causing further issues as
well such as negative work culture, poor guest satisfaction etc. It considers the whole situation
and then on the basis of that, adopts some specific methods and styles so that the problem can be
resolved as soon as possible. As per this theory, it says the Imperial hotel can assign a capable
person as a manager and on considering all the aspects and basis of the actual reasons behind
employee turnover can focus on further strategies and methods. Along with the role of manager,
it also involves the complete support from other workers and employees working in the hotel.
So, the root cause of the problem can be analysed first. It can be the less motivational factor,
fewer wages, improper training, so the manager can ensure to provide properly arranged and
organised training sessions to the employees so that they can get aware of their roles more
efficiently and the way they have to deal with people and different situations in the Imperial
hotel. When these root causes of the problem will be solved, it will automatically help in making
the condition of the company better, thus reducing the rate of employee turnover as well
Chaos theory
According to the chaos theory, it says that change is necessary. There are various
processes and operations that can be even controlled in the organisation but there are some that
cannot be controlled as well (Anderson and et.al., 2011). Thus, this theory says that some
changes are unavoidable and it can have either positive as well as some negative effects. Some
changes occur in a way that it cannot be even controlled. When an organisation grows, the
possibility for having complex situation increases more. So, it is the case with the Imperial hotel.
As it comes under one of the largest chains of hotels, it also faced various issues including the
employee turnover as one of the basic one. So, for dealing with the issue of employee turnover in
the hotel, they can involve more systematic structure that can be implemented in order to
motivate the employees in a way that the issue of employee turnover can get reduced.

The new structure can be made in a way that it can be able to manage the level of
complexity and other complicated features. This theory is said to be implemented in much
complex environments like in Imperial hotel as well, the employee turnover is considered as a
very serious problem because it effects on the services of the hotel and also disappoints the
customers which further results in decreasing the popularity of the hotel to a huge extent. So, it
follows the change and accepts it. Like what has been done is gone. It focuses on involving new
and modified ways to modify the factors such as they can provide some sort of incentives for
making the employees happy. Also, they can provide them extra week off's as it can actually
make them happy and focused towards the work (Hughes, 2012). So, the Imperial hotel can think
of including the chaos theory as it suggests some ways which can be implemented in order to
satisfy the employees of the hotel, thus it can help in reducing the risk of employees leaving the
hotel. It can also include efficient leadership skills so that the employees as well as the
operations can stay managed and controlled as well. Therefore, the Imperial hotel can think of
involving efficient leadership skills so that they can very efficiently manage all the operations
and function ability.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the report that Imperial hotel is facing various issues and one of
the basic issue of it involves the employee turnover at higher rates because of which the hotel,
customers and various other operations have to get affected in a much negative way. Thus,
various factors such as increasing the motivation level, managing the staff more efficiently,
providing proper training as well as promoting them by various means can be involved in order
to reduce the overall rate of employee turnover in Imperial hotel.

to the hotel and staff so that the issue can be resolved as soon as possible, thus, Imperial hotel
can again achieve higher rate of popularity as well as productivity. It has also been observed that
out of all the management theories such as chaos theory or contingency theory. Contingency
theory can be successfully applied in the Imperial hotel as this can help in providing various
different opportunities to the employees, thus they can get encouraged and motivated enough.
