Female Genital Mutilation
Female genital mutilation is a process in which the external genital part of
female who are under 14 year age is partially or completely mutilated by the
person as a religious practice. There are different perspective about this
issue. This issue looks like a simple issue but it is too complex because the
religious feelings of people are associated with this process. Or practice.
These perspectives can be classified in two different categories. First one if
community perspective and other one is medical perspective.
Community perspective is in favour of this practice because it is
attached to their religion. For these people this issue is matter of their
religion, and they do not want others to interfere in their religion. Devotees
of this religion can get violent on the promotions that are addressing issues
like it.
Other perspective is from the health officials. According to the
activities that are followed by these followers are not good for women who
are main victim of this ritual. There are many type of risk is associated with
this. This process is performed by non medical person who do not possess
any kind of information about the biology of human body. During the
process there is huge risk of blood loss and death risk is also associated with
this. This short term risk of process. For the long term this can create
difficulty to victim in different ways. This can cause intense pain during
sexual intercourse and in periods. At the child birth it can cause intense pain
to who have faced this process during her childhood.
Change in Perspective with Time
As per the time cases of female genital mutilation has been reduced but it
to a certain level. In the urban areas people are more educated, and they are
aware about the personal health and safety. That's why the cases of female
genital mutilation are in less number in recent time. These people are not
following such rituals on the name of religion but this is quite different from the
remote areas and areas that are still far from the development. The main problem
in this area is about education level of people and the forces that are forcing to
follow the religion. The people with radical behaviour force them to follow this
practices and they are not allowed to avoid the practices which are part of their
tradition for long time. But now due to efforts of people and health and social
care organization are helping such people who are facing this issue. People now
days are aware of the risk which is associated with practice of female genital
mutilation.
Practices of Local Health Care Organization
There are different efforts are put by local health and social
care organization to prevent such activities in the local areas. The
activities that are performed by the people of organization are
based on the perspective of medical authority that is forcing the
people to leave the rituals like FGM. The people are provided
with knowledge of biological structure of human body and
functions of different body parts to make educated about outcome
of non-medical FGM and its impact on the rest of life of women.
Influence of Different Factors Over development of Different Perspectives
Main factors that are influencing the development of different
perspective are related to different practices that are somehow related to
the FGM. The failures in practices that are faced by people in the mutilation
process have huge impact on the implementation of this practices. This
failures cause death of small girls due to blood loss and critical damage to
the genital parts. The education factors are also worthy in the process. It
has made many developments in order to prevent this activities in future.
The people who are educated and have better understanding of religion are
supporting the campaigns of health and social care organization which are
conducted to spread awareness about this issue.
