INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development known as the most important concept which
involves the improvement of skills and knowledge of a single person that helps them in order to
give their performance in an effective manner (Reeves, 2012). It includes enhancement of skills
like presentation, communication, creativity, soft skills and interpersonal skills, etc. these all are
profitable for professional life and personal hike of single person. This report has explanation in
context of professional and personal development for manager of the foods chain. Travelodge
Hotel founded which is a private hospitality company. They are dealing in consumable item and
serves worldwide. This hotel has been choose for this report. Some of the approaches of self-
managed learning has been discussed here along with their benefits. It is needed to define
development requirement in purpose to to frame plan for suitable action. In this report activities
for plan framing has been explained. There are some benefits that organisation and their
employees can be received form all these techniques of learning discussion will be provided in
this report too.
TASK 1
1.1 Approaches of self-managed learning
It is a concept of self-managed learning in which single person will get to learn for their
own past experience. It may also involves the knowledge and learning form school or collages
(Nicholls,2014). These types of learning make impact on others and come out as reflection from
their communication, mind set of person and creativity or innovation with this, there are various
types of techniques that can be used by a single person in order to enhance their skills for their
personal development as well as professional development. Some of them are as:
Seminars: Single person or an individual can go for attending some seminars so that they
will have chance to improve their knowledge and methods for working. Various types of
educational and other subjects of conferences has been conducted by different departments such
as educational sector. It can be said that all types of conferences are productivity for everyone.
Hence people can go for attending seminars where other person are sharing their ideas and
experiences that may be important and helps in enhancing the knowledge in practical and
cognitive sector.

Internet: there are so many types of online courses where individual person can learn
without going out form their home or comfort place. It is seems that internet has different
numerous educational sites that offers free and some paid courses that are known as premium
courses these have involvement of multi subjects.
Social sites: now these days, social sites has crossed nation's boarded and civil distance.
With the help of these sites, individual can make contact with other nation's person without any
restriction (Self learning, 2018.). These sites are known as like LinkedIn, Facebook or twitter and
they gives permission for free assess. It helps in boosting knowledge and learning of an
individual.
1.2 Ways in which lifelong learning could be encouraged
Lifelong learning refers to the set of skills which remain with a person in his/her entire
life. This will starts for, the time of an individual in born and keep with them till their last stage.
These types of skills and attitude has been learnt form formal and informal way. A person can
learn from their mother in very first time of first stage in life after born their family members

disciplines so on . Academic institution is also playing sound role in the life of an individual
from there they can learn lots of things and it also helps in developing their personality too.
Individual have advantage to apply these all skills in different situation and conditions that are
facing by them in their life. It is important for motivating self-learning in order to development
of personal and professional. SWOT analysis is needed to examine judgement and perception or
their own idea too.
Power and strengths shares relation with positive side of an individual which provides
helps in completing the wish of professional and personal life. Person's strengths are shown by
the attitude and behave of them. Weaknesses are bad or negative side of an individual's
personality which makes impact on the growth of a person. Opportunities are known as the
techniques by which professional and personal work and things can be done in purpose of
making future secure and gained desired goal. External affects are known as the threats they are
roadblocks which frame problem for an individual like lace of money can be a bigger issue for a
person.

Self-managed learning is essential for providing the growth of person in several manner.
With this, it also facilitates in order to building and framing the organisation (Howard and
Markauskaite,2010). There are so many benefits of self-managed learning to workers and
company some of them are like:
Profits for workers:
Team work: this learning of self-managed provide helps in order to create the sense of
team work in an individual. This techniques consist having knowledge in the group of colleges or
co- workers and students. It is profitable in order to gaining the better understanding for working
as a team member and achieve the attitude to represent it in effective manner.
Communication: majorly it gives help in enhancing the interpersonal and interactive
skills or attitude of employee that permit them to talk and speak with other person in effective
manner and impress them (Zepeda,2012). This aspect is very important and useful for a worker
in their work station as a manager of a well-known restaurant where with the help of this skill he
can make their employee understand for their duties and roles.

to bring positive and sound attitude at work station (McNiff,2010). It also facilitates in order to

individual more productive and effective in their assigned job role hence they may generate
sound and better result. It permits them to handle all rough and tough condition and situation in a

2.1 Evaluate own skills and competencies
It is essential for an individual to examine their own skills according to professional and
organisational demand. Therefore I needs to examine my skills and capabilities for various
approaches. It is highly profitable in order to determine the capabilities that is needed at work
place to preform their duty in effective way.
Communication:
As a manager of Travelodge Hotel, there is a requirement to have sound level of
communication with that I can be found interact with my colleagues or co workers. In very
sufficient and effective ways. It also helps in making sound, healthy relation between employees.
Focussed:
with purpose of attaining the objective and goals, I needs to be more focused and keep
concentrated on particular thing to gain desired aim and motives in prescribed time.
Coordination:
As a manager of a hotel, I should to ensure the sound coordination in between employees
therefore all the assigned projects will preformed effectively.
Hence, these all are competencies which is required for improvement of employee's
performance in their professional roles in more effective and sufficient way.
2.2 Determine own needs for development and activities required to meet them
It is a need to arrange SWOT analysis to examine self development requirements. A
single person could be aware and knowledgeable about several important factors which are

SWOT analysis has been made as:
Strengths:
 strong will power is in my personality that allows me to deals with serious problems with
out any issues.
 Team work is my skill that is effective and with the helps of this skill I will be able to
work in efficient manner. I have better level of communication skill which provides help in order to interacting
with others or with subordinates.
Weaknesses:
 I found that I am not very focused for my targets.
 High temperament is the main issues in my personality due to it I get stuck in various
conflicts.
 Not efficient in order to handle much work load at organisation. Weaknesses is found as I am not so very creative or innovative that I am not able to
generate sound ideas for venture.
Opportunities:
 there are so many types of site which provides required knowledge from where a person
can collect all important information.
 Training and development seminars by company are the another important things which
alter with other knowledgable thing. It has importance as for skill enhancement. Majorly wide level of organisation are looking for capable candidates to facilitates
employments.
Threats:
 May be background and past experience of an individual can be a known as threats
sometimes.
 Not having sufficient finance is also a issues that a person will not able to have enough
useful to achieve skills.
 Large competition has been seen in employment scenario.

As I have defined my all weaknesses and strengths, hence I am capable to determine my
progress that needs to be complete in current and future time period. Now on the basis of SWOT
analysis some of following requirement has been discovered. Sound competitive advantage some
times known advantage that can be gained by an individual.
Identified the gaps of skills: development of opportunity only can be tracked when
person can search the gap between their present skills and required skills. Some time it happened
when they are working in a team and they needs to have a particular attribute it may creates some
hurdle in their growth like in hotel industry manager needs to have better understanding of some
type of food which they are generally offer if their customer ask for their and manager don't have
idea about it then it may makes bad impact in the mind of the customer.

are required in order to preform any particular job (Fullan,2014).
Plans are linked to objective of business: The next thing that is to look after the plan
whether they meets with business goals or not. If the assignment of the organisation are not have

There are so many types of stages involved in process of implementing development plan
in actual condition. Some of six process are given as:
Conduct training plan with venture strategy: The main objective of an organisation
needs to be clear in the mind of lower and upper class of employees. HR of the organisation has
responsibility to define each post with proper description of job to suitable person with concern
skills. Other side competency department required to train their employees according to
company's strategy (Elliott,2011).

Providing and highlighting skills gap: The department of competency does hard to
match their training with upgraded skills of workers. But some time they can't match the whole
gap. Such as the Travelodge hotel's manager provide a specific training to their employee but
they are not able to fill entire gap which happen in skills of workers.
Core action needs: the next step in order to implement development plan in correct way
is needs to prioritize the action that needs to be complete in order to achieving the project. Each
and every work in organisation needs to be treated as equally. Other side in real statement value
and weight of every work in company dose not matched. Therefore actions who have higher
value should be addressed fast.
Measurable work: the work which has been in process needs to be measured on the basis
of time. Work or progress needs to be tracked for suitable solution and actions too.
3.2 Documentation for growth activities
Documentation is very essential for every organisation to apply all activities and plan or
strategies in effective manner. It also helps in redacting the chances of postponement or delay of
project (Duncan‐Howell,2010). There is a requirement of proper planning which provide help in
order to complete all task and projects that are related with personal and professional
development. All these strategies are on defined weaknesses, strengths, opportunity and threats.
Other side there are various types of activities which needs to be preformed they are as:
 Taking suggestions from experts or seniors with purpose of making effective and sound
strategies.
 It is also important to understand the needs to growth in very prominent ways with the
helps of it suitable objective can be made.
 After it, plans are to be formulated to attained pre determined objective which is related
with personal and professional development.
 The next thing which occurs is to apply all strategies and plan in real action.
 It is important to have regular examination that maintains effectiveness of the project.
 In the very last stage, where feedbacks are arriving from different parties.

Organizing study group: in order to make a project successfully each and every part of
employees should be documented subsequently and effectively. Such as external conditions are

Supervising and monitoring: regular monitoring ans supervising can helps in order to
enhance sufficiency or efficiency of the task with sound extent. At time of measurement when
any of deviation happened, then company can be able to make and apply suitable action to
resolve the problem.
3.3 Reflect own learning
In context of development plan, I have defined may inherent strengths and weaknesses.
They are essential in order to identify the capacity and ability which will be helpful in order to
over come or reduce so many issues that are general problems at work station. This strategies
provides helps in framing and setting objective with the purpose of personal and professional
development. This has involvement of different type of goal which needs to be attained with
suitable efforts and in proper time. These objective has focused on abilities such as
concentration, creativity, multi tasking, calmness in performance. In order to reduce weak
attributes or weakness of my personality. I needs to join training seminars and counsellings along
with it I can join some of decision making activities which could helps in to enhance my
creativity level. Other side I can have lessons form my mistakes and past experience. I needs to
create and develop different other competencies in order to reduce bad or negative aspects. These
are focused with following:
 Capability to deal with unpredictable or risk situation of the job.
 Arranges time in proper manner.
 Reduce roadblocks that affects communication and problem solving skills.
3.4 Update development plan as per feedback and evaluation
It is needed to update the development plan with relation of self evaluation and feedback

Hence the manager of Paramount Travel Hotel, London are facing higher turnover in their hotel.
So that manager will take those action that helps them to retaining their employees. This task
have all the related issues.

When company and its employee are sharing and working together on firm related
project, then there can be some issues are happened. It is essential to resolve and sort every
problem in very effective manner and in less time to attain sound growth in future. Some things
are needed to be memorised about problems or conflicts which can occur all time and facilitates
good opportunity to enhance the system and relationship among workers as well (Cummings
and Worley,2014).
Work-based problems: every organisation are facing some various types of problems in
different activities and for it they are using some strategy in effective manner. These may not
related with issues which can happened between their workers but they are related with
formation of objective, arrange them as well as monitoring and tracking or controlling. These
conflicts are powerful to make direct impact on productivity of organisation along with their
workers consistency for their job. Hence for this, organisation required to know and understand
how to manage them all and reduce it with the help of various planning. Issues can be rises
between employee and management or among workers may be also in between costumers and

will be used through each level of management (Avalos,2011).
Controller style: it is different and very unique style of communication to represent ideas
in front of other members. In this process manager will communicate in very general and formal
way with their employees. They generally not working in order to develop and enhance their
skills and abilities, but only communicate to employees in context to control the all unnecessary
activities for the organisation.
Supporter style: here, in this process persons are able to improve their learning skills and
achieve several things to know different type of condition or circumstances. They uses their
skills according to demand of situation.
Analyser style:this type of style is used for taking decision to know and identify each

4.3 Time management strategies
Time management for a company is very essential to get their things done and achieved
desired goal in proper time. It assist them to work more sufficiently and consistently with full
concentration (Time management, 2018.). It is not only important for company but also for
employees in order to manage their task according to time and reduce external burden form
objective. It can be side that person who are arranged and sound for their time management will
get more profit. It helps to decrease stress and enhance working skills or abilities (Anderson and
Anderson,2010).
There are some different type of time management strategies are like:
Clear focus: in context of time, it is important to keep focus on a particular project and
work which needs to be complete in a prescribe time limit. Having concentration on task helps in
reduce over thinking and discussion on specific thing.
