INTRODUCTIONPersonal and professional development is the procedure through which the organisationand individual prosecute in the activity of learning to meet the objections and desire goals. It isrelated with the improvement necessity of the individual and as well as group. This involvesdeveloping individuals such that they understand their roles and duties and enhances thenecessary skills and knowledge required to carry out the activity to accomplish desired goals andobjectives effectively and efficiently. Organisation undertaken in this report is Travelodge whichis from UK and deals in hospitality industry. This report will explain how self-directed learningwill enhance lifelong learning. Further the report will define how the individual will be able totake their responsibility in personal and professional development. This will also determine thedevelopment plan for personal and professional for properly and continually reviewing theindividual. Later part of the report will elucidate the acquired interpersonal and transferableskills. P1.1 Approaches to self-managed learning.Self-managed learning is a specific, investigation supported and much evidencedconceptualisation to learning that delivers important benefits over customary methods. It is waythrough which individual manage their learning (Bogren, 2016). This means Travelodge willhave self-learning activities and sessions that will be appropriate within their constitution andinsure that staff is developing in a definite way. These activities are planned and formulatedpermitting individuals to track and manage themselves through learning so that can continuallymodify their potency. It is the technique of evolution where individuals will take initiatives inlearning new ability, cognition and attitudes with the assistance of organisation (Bryant andUsher, 2014). There are various approaches of self-managed learning which Travelodge will usefor developing individuals and they are discussed below :-Internet :- Individual can gain knowledge and information from internet as it has theinfinite information available and people can access them easily. They can acquire suchknowledge which will help them to use them in workplace.The information is sometimesinappropriate and people can learn through self studies. Social networks :- It is a website that permit people with common interest to comecollectively and share information, knowledge in form of videos, images and articles, etc.These provides authenticate knowledge towards the topic and not available easily. 1

Seminars :- It is a kind of academic operating instructions given to the individual eitherat educational institution or at commercial and professional organisation for theirimprovement (Dietl and Schweizer, 2015). It brings together small group for continualmeetings, focussing each time on specific subject, etc.The people can get the knowledgefrom authorised person as well relevant knowledge.Conferences :- It is a formal meeting where individuals exchange their views and ideason various topics. It can take place in different fields where speakers speak and sharetheir points on numerous topics. Provide perfect balance among theoretical and practices,unsatisfactory for interpersonal communication in learning. The Internet is the most convenient and suitablefor me and my staff. This will be usefulin hotel industry as it will help people in gaining knowledge about the company. These days,everyone before making bookings for hotel, explore the official website of the company oninternet. It will help Travelodge in designing their websites such that it will attract people. Theywill use various images of the hotel with beautiful views, set of facilities they provide, prices,bedroom pictures, etc. This will help people in learning about the organisation and help companyin targeting large number of people. On their official website, they will also provide an ease ofbooking with relevant offers and discounts. Approaches ProsCons Internet It helps in channelising thevast collection of informationwhich can be easily derivedand helps individuals. It has decreased personalprivacy because the amount ofinformation shared on internetis tremendous. Social networkIt provides with the ease ofreaching people instantly atanywhere. It is beneficial for the overall growth of the individual. It isthe self-orientated, every day pursuance to look for formal or informal content for personalactivity or to acquire career skills (Elliott, 2016). In simpler words, this is the procedure ofgaining knowledge and improving skills throughout the life which will be useful in balancingand improving personal and professional growth of people. Travelodge will use numerous waysof that will encourage lifelong learning in personal and professional fields and they are discussedbelow :-Self-directed learning:- Travelodge will take advantage of their employees personalinterest by encouraging them to self-directed learning (García-Carmona and et. al., 2018).Organisation will take care of better needs for their employees and assess the kinds oftraining required to them. This approach helps the life-long learning in an individual asemployees are self-directed they conduct activities according to their understanding. SWOT analysis :- This will help individual working in Travelodge to analyse the SWOTwhich will be useful in determining their strength which is a powerful skill , weaknessesand evaluation of methods will be done to overcome those weaknesses, explains the newopportunities on which individual can work with full potential and defining threat andways for minimising risk associated. The SWOT analysis helps employees to understandtheir specific strength, weakness, opportunities and threats by which they motivates andknowledge towards situations are also increased. 3

Credit accumulations and transfer schemes :- It is used to supervise, record and rewardtransition through a standard state of course of instruction and to ease movement betweencourses and institution (Gedro, 2017). This will help individual in gaining knowledgeand transfer schemes will motivate them to learn new skill and work in accordance withit. This also help them to improve life-long learning by which organisation improvesknowledge. Financial support : Every employee works for the sake of financial benefits which isessential for the livelihood so that employees can fulfil their needs and demands. Byproviding them with adequate financial aid, will help in accomplishing organisationalgoals in Travelodge and encourages staff of housekeeping and receptionist.Subscribe to trade magazines : This will help staff and receptionist to gain knowledgeby reading those magazines and enhance development. This will encourage life longlearning and they will work with full zeal and confidence.Therefore, all the above approaches will be useful in encouraging lifelonglearning of staffs and receptionist and leads to their personal and professional development. P1.3 Benefits of self-managed learning to individuals and organisation.Self-managed learning is about employees and staff responsibilities for their ownlearning and developments. It assist individual learners to get concerned in cocreating,preparation and reflective on their acquisition experiences (Homrich and Henderson, 2018). Itdevelops and delivers validated programs that integrate independent learning skills.
