INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is a quite vast aspect that focusses on overall
growth and development of an individual. It is very helpful in enhancing skills as well as
knowledge of a person so that they can timely achieve their desired results within a specified
time period. It combines various qualities such as understandability, behaviour of individuals as
well as social complexities that may occur due to pressure of work (Biberman-Shalev, 2018).
Professional development on the other hand refers to an aspect that focusses on knowledge of
operations as well as planning and management aspects so that goals and objectives can be
achieved within a specified time frame. This report has been framed based on Travelodge hotel
which is headquartered in Llford, UK. This report throws light on various approaches of self
managed learning along with a professional and personal development plan. Also major stress
has been laid on interpersonal as well as transferable skills along with time management
strategies that are effective for business. Lastly, communication styles along with solutions to
work based problems have been mentioned in this report.

1.1Understand how self-managed learning can enhance lifelong development
Self managed learning is a approach by which individual can find a different ways of
learning things. It gives a long term individual development goal for the learners. Travelodge
need to follow this concept to increase their members knowledge and skills for future growth.
Through this concept organization can fulfil their target and goal accordingly. There are some
approaches these are given below:
Conferences and Seminars: Seminars and conferences are an effective tool through
people can learn so many things. Organization give a lot of opportunities of people to present
their knowledge about new things. It helps to people become more confident in speaking in
public also may they can increase presentation skills.
Internet: Internet is a very important approach with huge amount of data which provides
various search sites such as google scholar, books, journals and so on. Travelodge members can
acquire the knowledge where they need to be successful in work place (Brody and Hadar, 2015).
The experience of a wide topics through internet can also increase organization values, benefit,
and target.

Social Network: Social network is very effective approach through a range of different
social sites like Facebook, Twitter, and so on where people can increase their knowledge and
skills. Travelodge using this approach to share and knowledge for employees so they can learn
about social networking.
Through the concept of self managed learning mostly time company using internet
approach for their development. Travelodge also provide all information and responsibilities to
their employees which increase knowledge and learning skills (Cottrell, 2015).
1.2 Ways in which lifelong learning learning in personal and professional contexts could be
encouraged.
Lifelong learning is an all pervasive concept that deals with a formal process which is
undertaken by individuals so that they can keep enhancing and developing their knowledge base
on a continuous rate. It is a process in which learning keeps going on regularly without any
breakage in between. Main aim of learning process is enhancing skills and area of expertise
along with enhancement in career growth and future opportunities as well. This process plays a
quite significant role in evaluating strengths and weaknesses of a person. In context of
Travelodge it has been assessed that lifelong learning helps managers so that they can deal with
complex situations and helps employees in effective decision making . This process is assumed
to be a benefit for both individuals and organisation so that they can achieve their overall
motives thereby leading to career growth and enhancement. By this confidence level of
employees increases and they can easily face any complicated situations. Various methods that
can considered by managers of Travelodge have been stated as under:
Self directed learning: Self directed learning is an approach where main responsibility of
individuals is to undertake any key steps or initiatives which will further help in accepting
various challenges or complications that may occur on their self level (Cruess, Cruess and
Steinert, 2016). This method is used by people for choosing or undertaking various tools and
techniques that will further lead to achievement of timely targets. In context of Travelodge, this
approach plays quite an important role in enhancing knowledge and skills of employees in
Travelodge .
Continuous professional development: It is an important process that focusses on
continuous or ongoing learning of an individual. CPD plays a quite important role in enhancing
personal as well as professional growth of a person. In context of Travelodge it has further been

noted that it helps managers in examining their overall strengths and weaknesses thereby leading
to skill development. This makes it easy to grab any long term or short term opportunities that
may result in growth.
1.3 Evaluation of benefits of self managed learning to individuals and organisation
Through the concept of self managed learning individual can easily learn new things and
ideas so they can increase their knowledge and skills. It is a process where individual looking
forward to their goals and target in the organization. This is beneficiary for individuals so they
can participate in various activities an organization. It helps in the decision making process and
gives very good results in the organization (Dawson, 2018).
Benefits of Self-managed learning to Assistant Manager
As a assistant manager it is easy to achieve high growth for success from different
technologies. There are some advantage of self managed learning to assistant manager.
Improved ability range within Personal learning: Assistant Manager can increase their
knowledge and responsibilities in the organization. It gives chance to manager to grow
confidentially also he can enhance their skills and performance during the activities.
Improving level of Skills: Assistant manager needs to improve their knowledge of skills

important tool that helps in assessing skills of individuals. Professional standards on the other
hand refers to a systematized set of legal as well as ethical principles in which code of practic is
based on various circumstances (Dorociak and et. al., 2017). Various basic professional
standards can be like
Maintaining a proper dress code
Talking politely
Organisational objectives of Travelodge have been stated as under:
Maintain quality standards in relation to food and authenticity of taste as well.
Minimising consumer complaints range from 150 to 100.
