INTRODUCTION
■ This presentation is based on reflecting an area of interest, i.e. depression in teenagers
related to evidence based practise in context to nursing.
■ Evidence based practice or EBP is an important aspect in the nursing professional area.
■ It is defined as the selection of specific evidence for the well-being of the area of
interest in terms of using appropriate clinical expertise and preferences of the patients.
■ This is imperative to provide the best care to all the patients irrespective of their
speciality track or demographics.

IMPORTANCE OF CONDUCTING
EVIDENCE-BASED PROJECT
■ This is a multi-disciplinary approach in which the professionals' emphasis on expertise
in clinical practices, patient's values and validated research.
■ Nursing practices must be intervened through applying their experiences and clinical
expertise in bringing authenticity to the cases affected by depression (Royse, Thyer
and Padgett, 2015).
■ It further described the importance of adopting to the latest healthcare discoveries and
research that must be adopted by the nursing practitioners to give an outline to promote
improved care, patients' outcomes and interventions.

USING MODEL FOR DEVELOPING EVIDENCE-
BASED PROJECT
■ Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-based Practice Model
would be the best alternative to highlight the need of
employing clinical practices in mitigating the effects of
health related concerns.
■ It is refereed as a problem-solving approach for better
decision making in the clinical practices of professionals
such as nurses etc (Davidson and et.al., 2018).
■ There are several tools like rating scale, appraisal,
evidence synthesis, question development tool, etc. that
are incorporated to convert the theoretical knowledge into
clinical skills to bring excellence and improved
productivity for patients care.

■ This model is useful for nurses to evaluate the needs of practising through executing a
three-step process named as PET (practice, question, evidence and translation).
■ In this, PICO method would be implemented, which stands for P=patient, population,
problem; I=intervention; C=comparison; O=outcomes.
■ Nurses would progress their research through PICO in identifying the key areas,
problems, interventions and other comparative analysis to state the measurable
outcomes or expected results
■ This will help in providing with the best possible background and environment to
bridge the gaps between the reality and ideality to patients care in regard to factors of
onset of any issue or challenge at such widespread scale.

Identifying Speciality track:
■ Depression is the chosen track. The area of interest to be considered is onset of teenage
depression.
Reason in selecting this area:
■ The following are the driving forces to chose this track:
■ With changing lifestyle patterns like nuclear families, dependency on multi-media platforms
like mobile-phones etc. , fierce competition to survive in the cut-throat race to excel.
■ There is an adoption of unhealthy habits such as smoking, consumption of alcohol and other
illegal activities, which led to rapid growth in number of cases of depression among
teenagers.

INTRODUCTION TO AREA OF
INTEREST
■ Depression is an unrecognised and distressing
emotional outburst which either leads to isolation and
is mostly gets untreated due to misrepresentation with
any other physical illness (Garber and et.al., 2018).
■ There are several parameters that affect the overall
outcomes such as delay in recovery, increase use of
health related services, low nutrition levels, suicidal
tendencies and others.

Relationship between teenage depression and primary health services
■ According to O’Brien and et.al., (2016), evidence-based practice is reinforcing the prevalent
competition to provide a commitment level by healthcare professionals to improve the
standards of nursing practices while dealing with overcoming the barriers of teenagers
depression.
Role of nursing practices
■ Townsend and Morgan, (2017) reviewed that primary care services highlighted the nursing
clinical quality improvement to bring social awareness in overcoming the suicidal
tendencies of teenagers who not only feel lonely but also are becoming socially awkward.
Nurses hereby provide first hand assistance in tackling this mental problem through several
tools and techniques under a legislative framework.

IDENTIFICATION OF COMMON
CAUSE/ISSUE
■ Depression is considered as one of the prevalent mental health problems and disorders
in adolescents.
■ The most common concern associated with teenage depression is their reluctance in
seeking professional help due to peer pressure and identity issues (Boyd, Butler and
Benton, 2018).
■ Alongside, this reluctance is due to several influencing components such as
experimentation with drugs, delinquent behavioural attitude, peer pressure, trying to fit-
in, lack of support, no self-belief and other such socio-cultural parameters.

RECOMMENDATION AND ITS
EFFECT
■ The best solution is to implement a regular screening to curb this situation and generate
awareness and complete support to save lives of such young adolescents.
■ This would prove beneficial in establishing positive modifications at widespread levels
in all the states under a framework.
■ This framework must contains regulatory bodies like AACN, medical boards etc. with
established healthcare professionals, counsellors, psychologists and nurses to assess the
complete evaluation in proper and effectual ways. Here, parents and families
participation must be made mandatory.

Internal factors to influence the modification
■ Complete support from parents, friends, teachers and others to fight this disease.
■ By improving the parenting resilience under the guidance from nurses and other
professionals.
External factors to influence the modification
■ Introduction of an awareness program to connect teenagers from all over the country in
a collaborative approach.
■ Imparting education to bring awareness and give confidence and regain their belief.

IDENTIFICATION OF AACN
MASTER'S ESSENTIALS
The two most important essentials that must be followed by the professionals are as follows:
■ Health policy and advocacy: The focus is to establish the social justice through policy-
making and political activism to manage the health delivery systems. Nurses
involvement laid the ethical standards to be fulfilled with qualitative competencies.
■ Inter-professional Collaboration for improving patient and population heath
outcomes: This shed light on inter professional collaboration to attain the preventive
measures under a clinical setup to improve the health outcomes of a specific population.

CONCLUSION
■ It can be inferred that evidence based practice is important approach that help the nurses
to make decisions on the basis of cognitive capacities and the best interests of the
patients and the healthcare services.
■ Also, there is a significant rise of depression cases among teenagers that leads to suicide
and an increment in the crime rates, thus it must be mitigated instantly to curb this issue.
■ Lastly, the community must together work for the betterment of the future lives by
combining efforts to overcome any difficulties or challenging situations.
