Article Summary
Kross et al. (2013) in the article entitled “Facebook use predicts declines in subjective
well-being in young adults” highlights the fact that the excessive use of the social media has been
affecting the overall well-being of the concerned individuals. The article majorly highlights the
negative effects of the use of the internet and especially the addictive use of the various social
media by the individuals on the well-being as maintained by the concerned person. The social
media websites are observed to have been helping the concerned people to derive a better
pleasure in the social media connections that they develop in due course of their activities in the
various social media platforms. The extensive use of Facebook by the people often lead to their
irritation in terms of the interaction that they need to undertake over the technological activities.
The various researches that are undertaken by the experts in the matters related to the effects of
the extensive use of the social media websites are known to have been undermining the effect of
the enhancement of the wellbeing of the individuals as have been maintained within the society.
The authors highlight that “The more people used Facebook at one time point, the worse they felt
the next time we text-messaged them; the more they used Facebook over two-weeks, the more
their life satisfaction levels declined over time” (Kross et al., 2013). Thus, it might be stated that
the use of Facebook has negatively been affecting the well-being of the individuals.
