Introduction
This research is focusing on Wastewater treatment by coagulation method for removing
cyanobacteria and their effect from water. Presence of cyanobacteria in water is associated
with the incidents of eutrophication. As opined by He et al. (2016), cyanobacterial blooms
are the symptoms of eutrophication and it has become one of the main nuisances of water
bodies throughout the world. Toxins and natural organic matters (NOM) are produced by
cyanobacteria and it causes harm to drinking water. Due to this reason, it has become
important to remove cyanobacteria from water. This research is focusing on selecting an
appropriate method of removing cyanobacteria from the water bodies.
The coagulation process by using chitosan can be done to remove cyanobacteria from the
water sample in this research. Treating water samples with chitosan and red soil individually
or in combination can help in eradicating cyanobacteria from water. This method is easier to
conduct and it can help the researcher to get data that can be statistically analyzed. It can be
expected that this method is a suitable one for removing cyanobacteria along with its toxic
releases.
Based on the present topic and the requirement of the research, it has been found that using
chitosan as a coagulant is appropriate. Due to this reason, two publications of research cases
on this topic have been selected. The first research paper is about the critical evaluation of
using chitosan as a coagulant for eradicating cyanobacteria from water (Lürling et al. 2017).
This paper has focused on treating water samples with chitosan and it is relevant to the
present research. An well-designed experiment of removing cyanobacteria has been shown.
Due to this reason, this paper has been selected.
On the other hand, the second paper is about performing coagulation process by using
chitosan-aluminum chloride composition as a coagulant (Ma et al. 2016). This paper also has
provided clear evidence of selected method of experiments and importance of each technique
has been stated clearly. It is relevant to the present research study. Due to these reasons, this
paper has been selected.
Two case studies
The research case was investigated through two case studies, which was published recently.
The first case study is regarding assessment of chitosan, which can be used as a coagulant
