INTRODUCTION
Managing self and others refers to the use of an approach so that the people are able to
identify their different types of skills in a highly effective manner without problems and issues
(Beaumont and et.al., 2016). Using it, the various people are able to identify their skills and
therefore make the use of different types of processes to facilitate their overall improvement
effectively and efficiently. Thus in this way the people will be able to attain their different types
of goals and objectives without facing problems and issues. Therefore it is needed that the use
and application of appropriate strategies and techniques must be made so that the short-term,
medium-term and long-term goals and objectives can be attained without facing problems and
issues. In this assignment, detailed focus will be made on development of an individual PDP,
using strategies for skill development, development of high performance people by effective
performance management. Additionally, specific analysis of use of high performance strategies
which will help in working effectively as a part of the team will be discussed as a part of this
project.
MAIN BODY
Creation of an individual PDP
Scenario- I am a student who is studying in the university. In our university our teachers
provide us with different types of assignments and projects and we are required to take part in all
of them and display our skills and competencies in the completion of these assignments and
projects. Therefore I am planning to develop and enhance my skills and competencies so that the
attainment of the goals and objectives can be made.
I use the following steps to manage myself-
Assessment of my skills- I assess my different skills and make sure that my skills are
up-to-date with the latest requirements (Choi, 2018). Thus in this way I am able to make
sure that I can achieve my goals and objectives in the future without facing problems and
issues.
Developing a timetable- I prepare a detailed timetable which I use so that I am able to
follow a particular approach and therefore attain the goals and objectives. This helps me
in ensuring that I plan the way my studies are carried out so that excellence can be
attained in the different academic subjects.

Using motivation techniques- I use different types of motivation techniques which keep
me focused and motivated so that the different types of goals as well as objectives can be
attained by me (Coo and et.al., 2017).

Strategies for skill development
Career Development is an important goal for the students so that they are able to ensure
that they study in the right manner which can be helpful in making their career in the future (Fox
and Vendemia, 2016). For this, there is a requirement of making the use of Career Development
Strategies so that the development of career can be done in a highly effective manner. The
following Career Development Strategies can be used for this purpose by the students-
Setting of goals and creating a plan for achieving them- Different types of goals can
be set in the organizations so that they are able to ensure that the application of the
strategies can be made for their achievement (Gerlach and Kales, 2018). Thus due to this
reason it becomes important that a plan can be created so that these skills can be
enhanced effectively and efficiently.
Developing a timeline along with milestones- It is quite important that the development
of a timeline is done so that the milestones can be set and therefore the application of the
processes can be done to ensure their achievement (Harris, 2017). Therefore, due to this
reason it is crucial that the development of a timeline along with milestones can be done
for gaining of Career Development Skills.
Utilization of company programs- It is crucial that the company programs are set up
and utilized so that the use of appropriate skills and techniques can be made for the
attainment of goals and objectives effectively and efficiently. Thus, due to this reason it is

objectives can be achieved.
Owning Career Path- It is important that the Career Path can be prepared by the
students for themselves so that they are able to follow it which will help in ensuring that
the attainment of the goals and objectives can be done without facing problems and
issues. It is therefore important that the students are able to set for a goal for achievement
and can prepare a career path for themselves so that they can progress on it so that the
goals and objectives can be achieved.
Writing the goals- It is important that the different types of goals are written down so
that the strategies for their accomplishment can be prepared and implemented effectively
and efficiently (Hoyt and Murph, 2016). This will be helpful in ensuring that the use of
appropriate methods and techniques can be made so that these goals are achieved. In this
way the students will be able to progress further in their career.
Thus it can be said that with the use of these skills and career development of the
employees can result in employee motivation and employee retention and progression. Therefore
it is important that an organization uses them so that the overall efficiency, effectiveness and the
productivity level of the workers can be enhanced so that they can progress towards the
attainment of their goals and objectives.
Thus as students we have to focus on these strategies so that we can start developing our
career right in the university itself. Thus the way these strategies will help in career development
for us is explained as follows-
Identification of career goals- Career development strategies are very effective and
useful so that the different types of career goals are identified by the organizations in a
highly effective manne (Lynch and Rodell, 2018). Thus by making their use I along with
my teammates would be able to ensure that the achievement of these goals can be done in
the right manner.
Preparing a Career path- Career development strategies can be useful for the students
so that they can identify their career goal for the purpose of achievement and thus can
prepare a Career path accordingly (Maphalala, 2017). Therefore, In this way I along with

the future. Therefore the application of skills is required to be made here by the students
so that the specialized knowledge can be obtained by them. Thus in this manner I along
with my teammates would be able to make sure that the use of knowledge is made by us
so that the specialization can be obtained and thus in this way the attainment of goals and
objectives can be done without facing problems and issues.

through the managers. It creates an environment for employees so that they can perform in better

employees in order to enhance their skills and productivity so that they can accomplish
organisations objectives. An effective performance management helps individuals and teams
goals aligned with organisational goals. It helps employees to improve in performance by getting
feedbacks from managers. It boosts employees morale, productivity, motivation towards their
work so that they can work effectively and efficiently. Managers reviews employees
performance for providing them feedbacks, rewards, promotions so that they can improve their
performance and productivity. These techniques helps employees for motivation and
encouragement (Donohue-Ryan, 2018). It helps managers for evaluating employees performance
so that they can improve their productivity that leads to increase in organisations profitability.

productivity and provide good quality of work. It helps in encouraging the employees and
helping them in recognizing their talents and skills. Performance appraisal improves the skills
and career development of employees working in the organisation. It gives the benefits to the
employees like promotions or the bonuses which maker them work more effectively in an
organisation. It helps us in discovering how the employees can perform the job more effectively
in the future. It helps in realising the strength of the employees and give them compensation
according to their skills and talents (Murthy and Murthy, 2019).
There are various methods which are used in performance appraisal:
Management by objectives: It is a method in which the employees and the managers
decide together and identify, plan and communicate the objectives that focus on the
appraisal period. After all the planning and setting of goals they discuss this with their
managers and set the objectives of an organisation. Management by Objectives help in
improving the commitment of employees and accomplishing the goal of the
organisation. It helps in measuring the output of the senior managers, executives,
directors in the form of quantitative and qualitative.
360-degree Feedback: It is a performance appraisal collected by the employees in the
multidimensional and they are mostly influenced by their peers, managers, customers
and the direct reports. It helps in identifying the individual competence and on that basis
only the appraisal is given to the employees. Feedback from the different people helps
in increasing the motivation of the employees so that can do the work more efficiently in
an organisation. It also helps in improving the communication between the seniors and

effectiveness. If there are any problem arise from it managers takes actions for

them and they will be able to progress towards the attainment of the goals and objectives.
Performance measurement- Performance measurement is required so that the level of
performance can be effectively enhanced and improved by a person. Thus in this way by
making its use I was able to make sure that the level of performance can be improved
effectively and efficiently within the team. Thus in this way I think that I will be able to
motivate my teammates in the right way so that they can work towards the
accomplishment of the goals and objectives.
Performance review- Performance review is required so that the level of performance
can be effectively reviewed and the deviations and variations can be found out and the
rectification steps can be taken to remove them. Thus I will make sure that by making the
use of this technique, I conduct the performance review of my teammates so that the
assessment of the overall level of the performance can be made without facing problems
and issues and improvement in performance can be made if required.

Communicating properly- It is important that the proper communication can be done
with the team members so that their needs and requirements can be identified (Rankin
and et.al., 2017). As I want to develop high-performance culture in my team I make sure
to communicate with my team members and make sure that their different types of

Thus in this way I will be able to enhance the level of performance so that the attainment
