1.1. There are various models of behaviour that project managers can draw upon in
their work. Research and summarise three (3) of these behavioural models.
There are a number of behavioural models that can be used by a project manager to draw
upon their work. Three of the mostly used behavioural models that project managers make
use of include Maslow’s hierarchy theory, Herzberg’s hygiene theory and McGregor’s theory X
and theory Y. Therese theories are mainly applied to project management as the use of these
behavioural theory enables a project manager to motivate the people associated with the
project team towards a common goal of ensuring project success.
The Maslow’s hierarchy indicates that people do not work only for money or security. Once an
individual is able to fulfil the basis needs of money and security, the individual tends to seek
actualization of their potential.
The Herzberg’s hygiene theory states that, one of the most significant factors that contribute
to the success or failure of an individual is presence and absence of hygiene factors. It can be
implicated that presence of good working conditions can considerably help people in
motivating themselves to work better. A project manager needs to provide an optimal and
good working condition to ensure that they provide the best work.
The theory of X and Y states that the members of a project team need to be supervised and
told what is to be done (X) and that with a minimum supervision, the team members of a
project team does not need to be told what is to be done.
1.2. Project Managers and Leaders require high level interpersonal skills. Explain the
communication and negotiating styles and approaches that are most effective
when leading a team or project.
High level interpersonal skills are needed to be possessed by the project manager and leader
in leading the team. The interpersonal skills possessed by the project managers and leaders
include team building, decision making, communication, negotiation and motivation. The
communication and negotiating style and approaches that are most effective while leading a
team include distributive negotiation and integrative negotiation. The communication style
that is effective in project management and the styles that project manager and project
leaders can make use of is assertive communication. In this communication style, the

1.3. Practitioners of project management should be committed to doing what is right
and honourable. Set high standards for yourself and aspire to meet those
standards. In doing this it is necessary to adhere to current ethics, equity and

important to ensure that a project is implemented as per the regulations
and legislations so that no problem is faced.
1.4. Research and outline the learning and development strategies you would utilise to
develop the potential of program staff.
Successful management of a project needs identification of appropriate learning and
development strategies that can be utilized in project management. The strategies can help in
development of potential of a staff include providing training to the members based on their
experiences, identification of the potential of the staffs and team members so that they can
utilize the same in management of a project.
As a part of the learning and development strategies, at first it is essential for the project
manager to identify the project needs so that the learning and development strategies can be
designed accordingly. In this context, the skills of the project staffs are needed to be
identified as well so that it can be utilized in an effective manager during implementation of a
project. The learning and the development strategies can be designed according to the skills
and the competencies of the team members. The potential of the program staff can be
enhanced by various learning and development strategies. The project team members are
needed to be trained about various project management needs and basics of project
management so that a particular project can be completed with the allocated time. The basic
project management knowledge can further help in easier understanding of the project needs
and the issues in the project. One of the most effective strategies of developing a potential

1.5. Vision statements help to describe the purpose and give direction which helps
inspire. What are the types and formats for program visions?
It is essential part of a project to develop a vision document as a project vision document give
direction to the tasks that are needed to be completed in project implementation phase. The
project vision document is generally of various types and formats that are undertaken as per
the project needs.
The project vision document mainly states the aim and the predicted achievements of the
project. Generally a formal format of project vision is mainly maintained in the every projects.
Program vision documents mainly outlines the scope and the objectives of the project.
1.6. How does attending to issues and concerns in a timely manner assist to build an
environment of confidence and trust within the program?
It is quite essential to attend and address the issues and concerns in an effective manner so
that the project is not delayed as a result of the major risks and issues in the project.
Therefore timely resolving of the issues can help in building a state and environment of
confidence and trust. It is quite essential for a project manager to identify and address the
project issues in an effective manner so that the team members can gain confidence and trust
within the program.
If the issues in a project team is resolved in a timely manner, the delays and the associated
risks are reduced. However, for timely resolving of the project issues, it is quite necessary for
the project team members to communicate the major risks and issues in the project. The
timely and effective communication in turn help in building an environment of confidence in
the project team.
1.7. Explain what is meant by the phrase to “Honour realistic personal commitments”?
The phrase “Honour realistic personal commitments” indicates that a project team will be
doing everything to achieve the target of a project. This particular phrase indicates that the
project team is entitled to remain committed in the project throughout its implementation.
1.8. Policies and procedures should be developed to communicate explicit expectations
for socially responsible practice which include safe reporting, to constituent projects
and other pertinent stakeholders. Outline what these responsible practices would be.
