Instructions for the Assessor
Students will be required to complete two (2) article critiques (research/review). Utilising
the provided template as a guide analysing a piece of research with the intent of guiding
their practice. Students will be required to choose two articles on two different issues that
they can identify with. One of the articles need to be from MOODLE for Article 1 critique.
The second article for the purposes of article critique 2, will be found by the student. The
Students will complete a facilitated session where they are able to complete a literature
search for the purpose of finding the second article for this critique assessment. This will
be completed in Session 2 by the librarian.
Students must complete all components of the template and attach copies of the research
articles with the submitted assessment.
The due dates for this assessment is given above and explained on day one of this unit.
Extensions can only be given if requested prior to the due date as per Chisholm’s policy.
Instructions for candidate
This assessment will be completed and submitted via MOODLE. You will be required to
identify two areas within your Nursing Diploma that you can research for the purpose of
improving your own practice and meeting set learning goals.
Your article critiques must be submitted to Turnitin before the final submission in the
MOODLE dropbox. Turnitin similarity index may not exceed 15%. Please note that you may
only have one attempt at Turnitin. Do not include your cover or reference page with your
Turnitin submission otherwise this will increase your similarity index.
Your work needs to be set out in Arial size 12 font, 1 ½ line spacing.

Instructions for candidate
You will need to complete the following;
 Identify two areas in which you would like to improve your practice through
research.
 With the assistance of the teacher you will conduct a literature search for
relevant information for the purpose of meeting your research objectives.
 You will complete a separate assessment template for each article meeting
set word counts to demonstrate your understanding of;
- Strength and quality of own practice
- Developing research objectives
- Hypothesis testing
- Gathering information using a systematic approach
- Comparison and Contrast (Why you chose this particular article)
- Sources of information
- The research process
- Strength, relevance, reliability of information for identified objectives.
- Analysis of conclusions based on findings
- Use of information in practice.
You must attach copies of the research articles critiqued for submission.
Please seek clarification from your teacher if you are unclear of any requirements.
Notes
 If you have any special needs/requirements that need to be addressed in the completion of this task,
please bring these to your assessor’s attention
 If you are deemed “Further evidence required” against an assessment task, you will be asked to either
resubmit this assessment (or part thereof) or a further assessment will be negotiated.
 If you get between 30-49% for Article 2 you will be required to resubmit. If you get below 30% you will
be required to re-enrol into this unit the following semester. Depending on your timetable this may
extend your course by 6 months.

Referring to your learning within the Diploma of Nursing choose one situation, issue or identified area
of potential further learning that you have identified as an area you would like to research for your
professional development. Explain why you have chosen this particular situation or learning objective
based on your future role as a nurse.
In my profession, for some time now, I have a professional barrier when it comes to treating the patient
and that is pertaining to communication pertaining to behavioural change communication to the
patients. Therapeutic communication is an area where I need to improve my skills with professional
development and it is important to note that in the nursing management of the obese patients in mental
health setting – counselling and therapeutic communication for behavioural change of the patients are
very critical (Brown et al., 2018).
