INTRODUCTION
Organisational behaviour is related with human behaviour and thinking while working at
workplace. Therefore it essentially required for company to identify and make proper analyse of
employee's behaviour towards the activity they performed in working environment. The manager
is held responsible to understand the behaviour of their employees who contribute their
maximum efforts in achieving growth and success for an organisation. To improve efficiency
and productivity of company the manager or leader should carefully need to identify the complex
nature of an individual which will help them in maintaining healthy relation with their employees
(Bolino and et. al., 2013). BBC a company of UK which deals in collecting different and
effective new and affairs from all over the world is taken for the purpose of preparing this
assignment. The main purpose of preparing this report is to provide and communicate crucial and
important information relating to happenings occur within and outside of the country. The
project covers organisational culture, policies and power which play an important role in
influencing individual and team's behaviour. Different theories of motivations also explained in
this report.
PART 1
P1. (A) Handy's culture typology to discuss organisational culture

This theory is developed by Charles Handy in 1999 which considered as most effective
theory of organisational culture. It is essentially required for manager of an organisation to select

culture of organisation according to their organisational structure. There are four crucial
components which need to be studied carefully in order to maintain organisational culture at
workplace. Such four components are as explained as below:
Power culture: Every business organisation has main objective to earn profit and success
and thus in order to achieve this the company need to assign power to their departments with
respect to the activities they need to be performed in an effective and efficient manner(Burnard
and Bhamra, 2011). AS BBC is multinational company having large number of employees who
are contributing their maximum efforts in achieving common objectives and goals. In order to
achieve positive result it is important for top authority of an organisation to assign power to
employees, supervisors and managers which allow them to take an effective decision at work
place. According to Smith, the power culture is taking an crucial part in achieving desired target
through taking effective decision by employees attaining huge power.
Role culture: In this component, the manager play an important role in assigning roles
and responsibilities to their employees according their skills and capabilities in order to get
positive result. Delegating work to appropriate and qualified employees will be beneficial for
company as the skilled employees know how to utilise available resources at an optimum manner
in order to achieve better possible outcome (Coccia, 2014). Therefore it is important for BBC to
put their workers in facing complex situation which help company to identify the strengths and
weaknesses of their employees and accordingly assigning roles and responsibilities to them.
Task culture: As the company need to create task or activities which should be
performed by their employees in order to achieve desired targets. Therefore BBC need to direct
its manager to delegate activities to their employees and motivate them for the purpose of getting
work done from them in an effective and efficient manner. Task culture is made for resolving
conflicts and problems arises in working environment through implementing corrective
measured by top authority which will make a positive impact on the overall performance of an
organisation. Forb this employees should join together and put their combined efforts to achieve
common objectives.
Person culture: Employees working in an organisation play an important and vital role in
achieving growth and success for company through performing assigned roles and
responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner. The nature of employees are not that much
favourable for company as they come office for the purpose of earning and growth. Therefore it

is important for manager of BBC to provide the importance of maintaining healthy relation
among workers in to bring efficiency in their work. BBC should required to identify the nature
and behaviour of employees and accordingly implement plans and policies regarding assigning
duties to them in order to improve their level of satisfaction.
(B) Culture, politics and power of an organisation on individual's behaviour and team
performance
An organisation has some objective which need to be achieved in future with the help of
employees working in an organisation. Therefore it is important for company to analyse the
employee's behaviour at workplace which will affect the performance of company. The
organisational culture is interrelated with nature and behaviour of employees at workplace that
how their workers react or behave while performing their delegated activities. As BBC is a
multinational corporation through which it is essential for them to implement effective plans and
policies in order to develop an effective culture which help employees can able to coordinate
with one another (Collings, Scullion and Vaiman, 2011 ). Through coordinating the employees
can easily get direction from top authority and perform accordingly in order to achieve desired
result.
Power and culture also play an important role in making effective decision for the benefit
of company. As the managers of BBC holds different roles and powers which can influences the
work and behaviour of employees. Fro example if the manager is taking opposed decision for
their employees then it will damage the interest and behaviour of employees and because of
which the performance of employees also decreases.
In business environment of BBC, various politics arises in working environment which
could be disadvantage for the company. Thus BBC need to focus on eliminating such politics by
implementing corrective measures at workplace. As sometimes the employees feels demotivated
or not satisfied with the plans and strategies taken by top authority through which they arise
some issues at workplace which may impact the productivity and growth of an organisation.
There are two types of politics which are negative and positive. Positive politics is one
which is made to achieve desired goals by using power in positive manner whereas the negative
politics will bring dissatisfaction among employees regarding their roles and responsibilities
(Fuchs and Edwards, 2012). Therefore it must required for all members working in an

organisation to use their power in positive manner which will directly make a positive impact on
overall performance of company.
There are essential element involved in culture of BBC which are described as:
Skills: As employees working in an organisation attains different skills and knowledge to
perform their delegated activities. Therefore it must required for an organisation to treat equally
to every members without any differentiations which will improve the level of satisfaction of
customers.
Leadership: In order to bring efficiency in work to achieve desired result it is important
for the leaders and managers to provide proper guidance and direction to them which will
directly improve the performance of employees as well as an organisation.
Attitude: The attitude of managers should be in positive way among their employees in
order to bring positive result within limited period of time. The manager of BBC need to create a
platform where they can receive feedback and issues from employees and provide optimum
solution to resolve their issues in an effective and efficient manner (Kazemipour and Mohd
Amin, 2012.
TASK 2
P2. (A) The content and process theory of motivation
Every organisation has main objective is to attract large number of people through fulfilling their
needs and demands. The manager is held responsible to adopt various theories in an organisation
with a motive of improving skills and knowledge which is required at workplace. The theory of
motivation are essentially required to be adopted in order to motivate employees to perform their
deleted work in more profitable manner. BBC should required to focus on applying two theories
such as motivational and content theory. It is important for company to encourage employees
through their employees put their maximum efforts to perform well in order to achieve desired
target. The process theory also help in motivating employees at workplace so that productivity
can be increased (Kellison and Mondello, 2012).
(B) Motivational techniques which are helpful in increase working efficiency of employees
BBC need to adopt two important theories in order to improve skills and knowledge of
employees. One of the theory is Content theory which is also known as need theory which can be
categorised in various ways:

Maslow's need hierarchy theory: This theory indicates the needs and demands of an
individual that need to fulfilled by them in their life. Such needs and requirements are explained
in pyramid which clearly shows the actual needs of an individual. The first fundamental need of
an individual that need to be fulfilled is food, cloth and shelter and after which the employees
need to focus on fulfilling its another need which is safety and security relating to their
employability. Social needs is also an important need which need to attain by employees relating
to establishing healthy relations with other employees. It will help in generating self confidence
in employees at workplace. Self-actualisation is also there which is used to resolve issues and
problems faced by workers in working environment.
Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory: Through applying this theory the employer of
an organisation need to motivate its workers through providing job satisfaction and security.
Various development programs need to be conducted so that the employees feels motivated and
satisfied within working environment (Kitchin, 2017). Rewards, compensations, bonus etc. are
some factors which can motivate workers to perform their roles and responsibilities well. It will
bring dissatisfaction among those workers who didn't get any benefits.
Alderfer's ERG Theory: This is related with growth needs, existence needs and
relatedness needs which need to be fulfilled by employee to sustain in working environment.
Exist3ence needs are related to basic desires of employees where as relatedness needs are related
with external need which acquired through maintaining healthy relationship with subordinate,

co-workers and other employees. The growth needs are related with success of employee in an
organisation.
Process theory: This is the process of implementing motivational programs in working
environment in order to get better possible result. Process theory involves following theories:
Vroom's expectancy theory: This theory assumes that an individual should his behaviour
in such a way that bring positive result for company. As the employees have different needs and
demands which ned to be accomplished by manager of BBC in order to attain beneficial result.
Thus the needs and demands and behaviour of employees can be improved through enhancing
their skills and capabilities.
Adam's equity theory: As the employees are having different needs and requirements at
workplace therefore it is essentially required for manager to focus on their needs and give equal
importance to every employee's needs with a motive of fulfilling them in an effective and
efficient manner (Levine, 2010). Needs and requirements should be fulfilled without any
discrimination that will affect the performance of employees in positive manner.
(C)How to improve the level of motivation
BBC attain brand image and reputation in competitive environment therefore it is
essential for them to adopt various motivational theories in order to achieve sustainability and
profitability. In order to improve performance of employees the manager need to provide
direction and guidance in order to achieve maximum output. As most of the company uses
Maslow's hierarchy theory which help them in identifying employee's needs and accordingly
implement corrective plans to fulfil them within limited period of time.

P3 (A) Identify different types of teams
As if employees of an organisation performs as a team then the chances of achieving
positive result will be more. Therefore it is important for company to motivate their employees
and bring them together in order to achieve desired result (Lumley and et. al., 2011). There are
various types of teams such as:
Effective team: This team contains effective and efficient members having good skills
and knowledge which help in achieving desired target in more effective manner. The
understanding among team members are good because of which they put their combined efforts

in achieving goals and objectives. Therefore the chances of arsing conflicts and issues in group
are minimum.
Ineffective team: As low skilled and knowledgeable members are there in a team through
which the chances of getting positive result will be low. The chances of arising conflicts and
issues are more due to which the performance of group would be low.
Functional team: This team consists of members which are having control on
operational activities thus play an important role in growth and success of an organisation. The
main roles and responsibilities of team members is to create a communicational channel for all
department in an organisation which brings positive result for company.
Problem solving team: This team is formed with a motive of resolving all issues and
conflicts arises at workplace. The team in BBC need to carefully analysed the working
environment and accordingly implementing corrective measures to overcome challenges that
comes while performing business operations (Nelson and Quick, 2013).
Virtual team: This team are required to form in order to get support from members
working in different locations. As BBC is largest broadcasting company which provided
information of different locations to public through collecting information from the members
working in different places.
(B)How to make an effective team and describe Tuckman model of team development
As BBC is multinational company attains over 32,250 employees who work for their
success and growth thus it is essentially required for them to handle employees and business
operation of an organisation.
Importance of team work activities:
An effective team helps in managing workload of employees in order to bring effeciny in their
work.
As creating team is important for company to communicate and coordinate with the members
which help them in getting accurate roles and responsibilities.
Team helps in improving the overall performance of employees as well as organisation through
proving effective guidance and direction to all members (Suppiah, and Singh Sandhu, 2011).
Tuckman and Jensen's model of team development:
It is considered as most effective model which involves five basic elements performing at
different stages:

Forming: At this stage the group need to be more polite and patient with a purpose fo
communicate well to their employees regarding the practices performed by them. In this stage
power and responsibilities are clearly defined therefore team leader should play an important role
in achieving desired objective. BBC need to follow such same policy in order to achieve desired
target.
Storming: In this stage the employees are able to know about their roles and
responsibilities performed by them in order to achieve desired target. Thus if BBC need to
achieve growth and success them it must required to motivate their staff members to formulate
effective decisions in order to achieve better possible result.
Norming: In this stage the team leader provides acceptant relating to work they need to
be performed. The team leader have main responsibility to identify issues and problems and
accordingly implement corrective measures in order to maximise the satisfaction level of their
employees. BBC need to assign duties to their team leader through which they can give proper
guidance to its workers.
Performing: At this stage the members of an organisation focus on implementing
effective plans to achieve desired objectives in profitable manner. As BBC is large in size which

attaining large number of employees therefore it is important for them to communicate
company's objectives to them so that their employees perform in right direction.
Adjourning: This is the last stage in which the interest and behaviour of employees are
analysed and motivate them to perform well. BBC company need to focus on identifying
strengths and weakness of their employees and accordingly assign roles to them in order to get
positive result.
TASK 4
P4. (A) Appropriate organisational theory to improve team performance
BBC need to focus on utilizing available resources at an optimum manner through
implementing effective plan and strategy. This will help company in maintaining healthy
environment at workplace in which the employees can easily coordinate with each other to
achieve desired objectives. The managers of BBC should adopt Path Goal theory in order to
develop team work. Such theory are described as below:
Path goals theory: This theory is based on room's expectancy theory which defines the interest
and behaviour of employees in working environment. The main objective of BBC to to motivate
employees to involve in various activities and contribute their maximum efforts in achieving
desired result (Teh and Sun, 2012). This model is depend of various steps which are explained
as below:
Task and environmental characteristics: It is necessarily required for business to resolve
issues and problems arises at workplace. In BBC the team leader are focused on identifying
external factors which affect the business operations and accordingly take corrective actions in
order to achieve positive result.
Leader Behaviour or style: It is required for company to adopt some leadership styles
which help them in enhancing performance of team. The leaders need to have efficient skills
relating to providing direction, participation and supportive in nature.
(B) Various barriers that could affect team performance
There are some barriers which ca affect and influence the performance of an organisation. Such
are as follows:
Poor communication: The organisation must required to implement effective
communication channel for their various departments in order to transfer information from one

department to another. Poor communication causes misunderstanding and dissatisfaction among
employees.
Lack of managerial involvement: Manager need to get involved in the activities
performed by employees and accordingly provide direction and guidance to them in order to
achieve desired result. Without having support of manager the employees cannot perform their
roles and responsibilities in profitable manner.
Unclear goals: It is essentially required for manager to clearly defined the roles and
responsibilities to their employees which help them in bringing efficiency in their work. If
employees did not know about their roles and responsibilities then they may fail to work in an
effective manner.
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the above project report that organisational behaviour plays
an important role in achieving profitability and sustainability of company. It helps in improving
performance of employees through developing their skills and knowledge in order to achieve
better result. It is the responsibility of top authority of an organisation to motivate its employees
and direct the interest and behaviour of employees towards organisational goals.
