Steve Jobs was an American discoverer, designer as well as tycoon and above all was the co-
founder, chairman and chief executive of the most famous Apple Computers. The following
essay talks about this entrepreneur, his features and qualities which helped him in achieving
this position. Along with this it discusses about the beginning life of Steve Jobs and how he
became the successful business magnate and brain behind the Apple Computers. Last but not
the least his values and ethics which provided him competitive advantage in his business have
also been mentioned. Steve Jobs was born in the year 1955 who was raised up as an adopted
child. Since his early years he was smart enough and despite having no direction and getting
dropped from the college he continued to experiment on a number of pursuits and ended up
with co- founding Apple with Steve Wozniak in the year 1976. He left this world in the year
2011 after fighting with pancreatic cancer (Gwynne, 2017).
Steve cannot be called as a person who was ordinary instead he possessed a combination of
traits and characteristics which are found rarely and which helped him in reaching pinnacle of
success despite the hurdles he had to face. A few of his traits include;
Steve was far sighted, keeping and working with a vision in mind brought Apple where it
stands today. A leader always should have a strong vision which he had instead of thinking
and talking about imaginary plans he was consistent in his mind and has long term plans
always. Secondly he was a very passionate man which was the main reason of his
perseverance and serves as the main forum to turn the dreams into reality. He was a risk taker
too and considering the fact he opt for perfectionism always helped him trusting the judgment
he had in mind and establishing what is needed by the people. One of his traits though would
be considered as negative but helped him in achieving his goals which includes his bossy
nature. This trait helped him in developing the products exactly in the same manner which he

had in his mind and doing his job without getting under influence of any other person (Wu,
Wang and Hao, 2018).
Jobs was an intelligent and out of the box thinker but was dropped from his college within six
months after he joined. But it was during those six months in which he explored his love for
typography. His first job was in 1974 in Atari where he joined as a designer of video games
but after some months he left. It was at Homestead High School where he met Wozniak the
co-founder of Apple Computer they both had mutual love for electronics and digital chips
were hooked up by them together. They started doing this when rarely people knew about the
chips. It was in 1971 when they come up with Apple Computer which was initially started up
in Jobs’ garage of family. This venture was funded by both of them where Jobs sold his
Volkswagen bus and a scientific calculator belonging to Wozniak was sold by him. Both of
them revolutionize the computer industry by providing machines that were smaller, intuitive
and can be accessed by anyone. Their first release of Apple I helped them earning $ 774,000
before they moved to an increment in their sales by 700 percent by releasing second model of
Apple.
Steve Jobs with the help of application of ethics helped his business in gaining competitive
advantage. He was empathetic towards customers. He made sure an array of Apple’s products
are available so that the various needs of the customers can be fulfilled. Even with Apple he
made sure that customer service remains the top priority which provides solutions to the
problems of customer in an ethical way. Also Apple dealt with its competitors fairly while
meeting with them halfway. Also the same he has applied in his manufacturing standards
which were far beyond the standard of industry. Also he worked towards his commitment of
reducing environmental impact related to products of Apple with the help of avoidance of
hazardous materials that lead to carbon footprints due to which his company gained a

competitive edge in this regard and came under the category of greener company (Zheng and
Lee, 2018, July).
All in all it can be said Steve Jobs with a simple beginning it was his intelligence and his
traits that gave him the success despite the difficulties he had to face.
It is impossible to summarize Steve Jobs career in one essay, but there are still some lessons
to be learned. First of all, innovation is very important, but innovative products fail without
proper marketing. Second, there is no direct path to success. Once, Jobs was fired from a
company. Instead of making a change, he makes a timely offer and then takes over, this time
considering his attitude to be genius. The spirits of entrepreneurship, the idea that you can do
something bigger and better than before, is always worth considering and researching
whether to imitate it or just wonder what arrogance it can create (Gwynne, 2017)
