Summary
In this section, information is gathered from the case scenario on Fast Track Couriers
where it is necessary to identify strategic change needs, reviewing the existing policy,
monitoring trends in the external environment that actually impact on organizational objectives.
The study properly explains about change requirements by consulting experts who will guide to
identify change requirements as well as opportunities at the same time.
3. Analyzing the organizational objectives provided in the scenario to identify the following
change requirements for Fast Track Couriers
a. Identifying requirements for change
From the case study on Fast Track Couriers, it can be noted that the company need some
changes in their organizational structure and in the operational aspects. Some of the requirements
of change are mentioned below with proper justification:
 Fast Track Couriers needs to build its market share so that the company can be the
preferred choice as movers or courier company
 Fast Track Couriers needs to change their delivery system so that they can offer shorter
delivery times to its customers. It is important to understand the fact that slow
distribution system often be the reason of late delivery to the customers and this action
proves negative in the minds of customers and that leads to decrease their delivery system
 Fast Track Couriers need to conduct training programs for the employees in order to built
trust and motivation
 Reporting on productivity should be completed by use of PDA data

 One of the factors that affect negativity is the drivers to resistance in change. For this
reason, this aspect should be explained in detail by understanding the requirements.
b. Preparing an explanation on how the identified change needs to link to the strategic goal
plan in an organization
Change management is very important and inevitable process where organization can
experiment something new. The outcome of change management can be positive or negative.
But, organization should engage in experimenting new ideas in their approach. Every
organization needs a change but planning is important that aligns with strategic goals of the
company. The identified changes at Fast Track Couriers align properly with the strategic as well
as operational goals and these are as follows with proper justification:
 Fast Track Couriers proposes to expand their business in the metropolitan areas. The
company wants to increase their share from small to medium delivery market that comes
around 7.5%. Therefore, it can be conducted if Fast Track Couriers engages in efficient
employment of workforce and technology.
 Fast Track Couriers should adopt usage of technology such as GPS systems as well as
PDA as it will improve the distribution system as a whole
 Fast Track Couriers should engage in providing training programs to the employees on
matters relating to change that is needed in improving their organizational structure.

Reviewing the performance of the organization against objectives with regard to its:
a. People- From the given case scenario on Fast Track Couriers, workforce affects the
strategic goals of the business enterprise. Companies cannot achieve desirable results
unless employees are motivated and shows interest in working for the interests of the
company. It is thereby important that both employees and drivers should feel safe while
working at Fast Track Couriers. Use of technology like PDA systems in the truck means
that Fast Track Couriers does not trust the drivers. For this reason, the employees and
drivers are not participating in the training programs organized by Fast Track Couriers.
Fast Track Couriers also had changed the policy of two drivers per truck where one
driver per truck negatively affected the working of the driver at Fast Track Couriers.
b. Policies and processes- From the case scenario of Fast Track Couriers, it is noted that
the distribution process is slow. For this reason, Fast Track Couriers fails to achieve
shorter delivery times. However, drivers shows no interest in accepting PDA systems and
automatic lift gate as it actually delay delivery time because of man-handed loading as
well as unloading services.
c. Technology- From the case scenario of Fast Track Couriers, it is noted that the
workforce at this is resistant for adapting to change made in form of introducing new
technology such as GPS systems installation as well as PDA devices. The reason behind
resistance is that drivers feel that company does not trust them and however they are
being monitored constantly and for this they are not willing to accept this technology that
leads to delay in order from the customer.

d. Structure- From the case scenario of Fast Track Couriers, it is noted that The General
Manager of the company implements these policies. Lack of motivation from the
management had led to this condition as there is no proper administration as well as no
control over the workforce.

There are two external trends that can widely affect the achievement of the strategic goals
of Fast Track Couriers and this is competition. It is because competitors are using advanced
technology and they are able to convince their employees that the change will benefit company
as well as the employees. However, Fast Track Couriers will lose their market share because
customers always need fast delivery. The next external trend is government policies. This means
if government changes the policies or increases road tax, then delivering of the orders will result
in increased cost for the company. This will eventually increase their service charges and there
will be severe competition.

6. Identifying major operational change requirements
a. Identifying change due to performance gaps
During the initial stage of operations, Fast Track Couriers followed the policy where they
have kept two drivers per truck. But, now it had been changed to one driver per truck. This
change had lead in resistance by the drivers as they were more comfortable when they used to
work in twos. Fast Track Couriers decided to use one driver per truck as well as employ other
drivers to drive the new truck that the company going to purchase.
b. Identifying changes due to business opportunities
Fast Track Couriers need to work hard so that they have a chance to increase their market
share in Sydney by 7.5%. This is the reason why Fast Track Couriers decided to expand by 8
trucks as it will help the company to reach out more customers in the near future.
c. Identifying changes due to threats
Drivers working for Fast Track Couriers show no interest in participating in the training
programs where they will be explained about PDA devices that result in low performance. Even,
the drivers threatened the company that they will go on strike if Fast Track Couriers follow the
policy of one driver per truck. Due to this reason, Fast Track Couriers had listened to the initial
policy of two drivers per truck or else they had to face an angry driver force.
