Introduction
Issues related to the human resources are one of the major challenges for the
contemporary business entities. This is due to the reason that skills and expertise of the
employees determines the extent to which the internal organizational factors will be effective
enough. However, considering the current complexities in the global business scenario and
diversity in the workforce, managing the human resources is challenging for the business entities
(Ghorbanhosseini, 2013).
Bath and Tile is the leading sanitary accessories brand in New Zealand and operating
since 2009. It is identified that they are having more than 3000 types of sanitary products being
offered. As of now, they are having two branches in the country and are majorly known for their
quality products. However, on the other hand, it is also identified that they are facing issues in
terms of employee management and lack of training programs.
This report will discuss about the major issues being faced by the manager of Bath and
Tile on the basis of the information gathered from interviewing them. In addition, the issues will
be further analyzed on the basis of different organizational development theories. In addition,
system theory will be used in discussing about the application of development situations. With
the change management models, proper change process will be implemented in order to mitigate
the identified issues.
Identification of the issues
On the basis of the interview, it is identified that the major issue for Bath and Tile is the
staff retention. This is due to the reason that employees are having lower loyalty towards their
workplace and opting for better opportunities. Hence, it is getting difficult for the manager to

manage the particular group of employee and train them. Furthermore, it is also identified that
lack of proper training approach is also posing challenge for Bath and Tile. This is due to the
reason that they do not have any particular approach of training process for their entire
workforce (Cloutier et al., 2015).
This is affecting the effectiveness and skill sets of the employees in meeting service
quality standards. It is also identified that high level of bureaucracy in the organizational
structure is also posing challenges. This is due to the reason that manager take more time in their
decision making process due to the involvement of number of intermediaries in the process.
Research methodology
Qualitative method is being used for gathering the information from the manager. This
method is being used because with the help of the qualitative method, the differences in the
opinions of the manager are being identified. In addition, it also helped in gaining the detailed
insights from the side of the manager. In the case of quantitative method, responses will be
gained in the forms of positives and negatives but in order to gain the proper feedback from the
respondents, it cannot help and qualitative method can only be effective. The detailed responses
gained in the interview are due to the qualitative questionnaire (Bengtsson, 2016).
On the other hand, semi structured interview is being used because full structured
interview is more rigid and is not effective in gathering the detailed view of the responses. In
addition, with the structured interview, respondents and the interviewer will have the flexibility
of deviating the core topic or digging deeper. However, on the other hand, it should also be noted
that unstructured interview is also not effective because no particular approach will be followed.
Thus, the probability of not meeting the core objectives of the interview will be higher.

Discussion of the organizational development theories
There are different theories of organizational development can be used in determining the
different situations for Bath and Tile. In this report, the three major theories will be selected and
discussed and the most effective one will be used for the determination of the organizational
situations of Bath and Tile. One of the major theories is the autocratic model, which refers to the
managerial orientation of the management and employees are bound to listen and follow the
upper level management (De Hoogh, Greer & Den Hartog, 2015).
In the case of autocratic model, the major advantage is the less time consumed in the
decision making process. However, on the other hand, it should be also noted that autocratic
model is having lower employee presentation and thus, the issues from the side of them will have
higher probability. In the case of Bath and Tile, autocratic model will not be effective because
they are facing the issue of lower staff retention and autocratic approach will further amplify
that.
On the other hand, custodial model can also be applicable for determining the
organizational behavior relevant in Bath and Tile. According to this model, economic orientation
is being followed over anything. In addition, the employees in this case are more concerned with
the security in their workplace. The major advantage of this model is the satisfaction of the
employees due to the reason that their security and benefits are being given the major focus.
This model also states that if the employees can be made satisfied, then their performance
in the workplace will also get improved and will ensure the better organizational productivity
(Rast III, Hogg & Giessner, 2013). However, in the case of Bath and Tile, this model might not
be effective due to the reason that there is no information regarding the fulfillment of the security
