Introduction
Business communication is the process of sharing information between people within and
outside organization. That means people and members of organization express their feeling and
information through effective business communication (Escobar-Rodríguez and Bonsón-
Fernández, 2017) This report present Hilton resort and hotel because this hotel has very wide
chain at global level. Hilton hotel is an attraction point of Sri Lanka. This report will be cover
barriers in communication and inter departmental cooperation.

According to Kernbach, Hotel has many types of departments and all departments has
several responsibilities. The purpose present behind making of hierarchical level in organization
is make easy to operate all work. But it cooperation and coordination is very essential for achieve
goal and meet objective. It recommends that colleagues and subordinates that they should
communicate freely with each other because all members and departments has same objective
like increase productivity and profitability. So if they communicate effectively and share all
problems so through this they easily establish cooperation between them. According to ….,
interdepartmental cooperation is not important because all are separate responsibility and work
so cooperation is not important.
Business communication is the process of sharing information between people within and

According to Kernbach, Hotel has many types of departments and all departments has

According to Coffelt, Departments like financial, human resource, front office and many
departments are contributed in hotel to achieve objective. These departments are essential
because through contribution of all departments' organization increase productivity and
profitability. They should treat with all departments that they are important, and they must
communicate about business objective with each other. Flow of communication in business
should be smoothly so this thing also helps in establish cooperation in Hilton. According to …..,
all departments are not depended on each other it is not true that every department is important.
According to Mehta, members and management of Hilton should communicate directly
because if they interact with each other and employee reach to management for share any
conflicts so organization resolve problem and prevent conflicts as well. This process helps to
remove and detect conflicts and communication errors through conduct meeting and gather
informations from members and then take action and decision to solve problem. So colleagues
and subordinates does work with together and increase productivity and profitability. According
to …, cooperation in all department increase interaction between all of them and it increase
conflicts. So interaction is not important.
According to Steele, in Hilton members should use simple and common language with
each other because every department has different people from different region so every region
has different language meaning and words. So this thing creates misunderstanding because all
members and team don't have common understanding. Therefore, they should use common
language and share with new member during on boarding. This thing helps to increase
productivity and profitability in an organization.
According to Park, management should shift to all members in all department after fix
time so this process helps in establish coordination between members and departments and also

frustration, humour etc. and all this thing also create barrier in decision-making. Emotional
barriers change way of talking of people and create misunderstanding and conflicts at workplace.
Physical barriers :- These barriers includes noise, closed doors, faulty equipment and
closed cabins so these reasons make ineffective communication. This things create problem in
communication because if loud noise comes during important communication so it may create
confusion. Due to Faulty equipment members has to face problem because voice break during
communication and receiver can not understand information.
Cultural barriers :- Nowadays world is globalized and in Hilton many people do work
from different region. All have own culture and values like different dressing sense, religion,
food, drinks, pets and general behaviour. This all is different to each other and it creates carrier
because they have to understand different culture and tolerant of others. In effective
communication these barriers create problem. In Hilton hotel people of other region get offer of
courses about understand and learn other culture.
Organizational structure :- Structure of organization also create barrier in
communication because Hilton is a very huge hotel and hierarchical structure is also very large

present between employees and management, so they can not share their problems and issues

structure of organization so this thing helps in smooth flow of communication. Simple structure
