a. Description of the business
KFC is a well-known fast food brand which specialises in chicken. It is the world's
second largest restaurant chain which comes after McDonald’s as measured according to sales
and is also known to be the world's most popular brand for chicken. It was founded by “colonel”
Harland Sanders in the year 1930 during the time of great depression. The first store of
Kentucky Fried Chicken was opened in Salt Lake City. Founder also gave this brand a slogan
which is “It's Finger -Lickin' good”. The company is situated as Louisville, Kentucky and also
Yum's subsidiary, which owns Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. It is serving more than 12 million
customers daily(Abramowicz, , Alt and Franczyk, 2016).
b. Key facts of the business operations
For the optimum selection of location, various tools and techniques are used by KFC.
There are lots of factors which are kept in mind while designing their facility.
 Ensuring proximity of the customers, so that they can reach their customers; this is the
reason why they have opened their restaurants in every city. They know very well that
how much important it is to remind consumers about their presence.
 KFC is following its legacy by selling specialised chicken along with many products
around the world with the addition of the options in company such as grilled chicken,
chicken burgers etc. in their menu.
 They located their business outlets where there is an availability of infrastructure and
abundance of skilled labours they are operating in a saturated market which is highly
competitive, they need to keep their prices low and therefore, opt for those location
which are available at a cheaper price(Dwivedi and et.al., 2015).
c. Functions of the BIS
At KFC, business information system plays an important role for their effective working.
Information Storage and Analysis
With the help of this technologically advanced system, company is able to use databases
that are sophisticated and comprehensive. Information system stores, updates and analyses the

information. Also, these systems integrate data through various sources which can be inside or
outside the company.
Assist with making decisions
The success of the company is dependent on effective strategic plans. KFC uses BIS to
generate strategic plans and make decisions for the longevity and prosperity of the organisation.
Assist with Business Process
Adopting information system simplifies the processes of business and eliminates
unnecessary activities. It also helps to avoid repetitive task which helps to save time, which leads
to better project planning(Frank and et.al. , 2014).
d. The role of your proposed BIS for the business
Business information system helps to facilitate the business function of every department
of KFC .Various departments like marketing and sales, production, accounting and finance,
human resource need this system for effective working like marketing activities are provided
direction and marketing information needs systems that supports decision regarding the
marketing mix; where in production it requires data to forecast the future demands and data for
manufacturing. In accounting and finance, all the records are kept which helps to take financial
decisions and at last all the records of workforce are kept by human resource department for
taking related decisions(Ismail and King, 2014).
2. BIS methods/SDLC
a. Brief overview of BIS methods
Following can be the methods for business information system. First method is feasibility
study which includes that whether management concept's for desired system is achievable or not.
Second includes the analysis where analyst designs and discusses the task which is to be
performed. Third method is the designing in which blueprint of the whole process is made.
Fourth method includes the testing and development of plan, further followed by evaluation and
maintenance.

Feasibility study method includes stages in which informational analyst performs a study
regarding whether concept of management for having the desire of new system is achievable or
not. Feasibility study includes the following stages which are
Examination of market
Where the critical analysis of the company's product or services is done on the basis of
competitive landscape.
Review of Technical Requirements
Which includes understanding of the need of the market and making list of requirements
accordingly.
Exploring the business model
Where assessment of business model is done which includes the study on the longevity
of the business and what are the obstacles in it(SDLC – Overview, 2018).
c. Impact of chosen method on the case study
Feasibility studies facilitate the the process of determining and organising all necessary
details to make a business to run successfully. It will help KFC to identify problems in the areas
of logistics and nearly all business related problems with the solution to eliminate it. The study
of feasibility also helps to develop strategies for marketing and to compete with other
competitors effectively.
d. SDLC overview and list of models
SDLC or System Development Life Cycle is a process that is used by companies to
produce high quality software. SDLC consists of following methods:
 Planning requirement analysis
 Defining requirements
 Designing the product Architecture
 Building or developing the product
 Testing the product
 Deployment in the market and Maintenance.

SDLC model includes following types which are Waterfall, Iterative, Spiral, Big bang and V-
models respectively..

Spiral Model is to be chosen for the case study among available models because in this
changes can be done whenever required. This model has following step which are performed in a
coordinative manner(Laudon and Laudon, 2015).
Identification
This phase includes the gathering of requirements of business and with the maturity of
product changes can be done accordingly.
Design
It includes the conceptual designing and logical designs of modules.
Construct
It comprises of production of the actual product and designing of POC which is also
known as proof of Concept.

It includes identification, estimation and monitoring of the technical feasibility and risk
related to management.

f. Impact of chosen model on BIS development
Impact would be that it will allow elements of the information related to product to be
added, when it will be available or known. This would lead in the assurance of no conflict with
the previous requirements and design. This allows orderly transition for the maintenance
activity. Extensive use of prototype is one of the best impact. User is able to see the system
earlier.
3.Feasibility Study
a. Executive Summary
Feasibility study will provide evaluation of a project's potential for succeeding;there are
five areas where company performs this study, which are:
Technical Feasibility

This evaluation focuses on the organisation's technical resources. It provides help to
organisation for the determination of whether the capacity will met by available technical
resources.
Economic Feasibility
It involves analysis of cost benefits of the provided project which helps KFC company to
determine project's viability, cost and associated benefits with it which helps in the enhancement
of project credibility(Paré and et.al., 2015).
Legal Feasibility
It investigates all the aspects regarding proposed project which can lead to conflict with
legal requirements like laws related to zones, data protection act and other social media laws.
Operational Feasibility
It studies for the analysis and determination of of how well the company's needs can be
met with the completion of the project.
b. Scope
Feasibility study provides various benefits as it increases the focus of project teams,
helps in the identification of new opportunities. It provides information which is valuable for
decision making. Alternative of the business are narrowed and leads to identify all valid reasons
for undertaking projects. The success rate is enhanced by evaluating every parameters. It also
helps to identify all the valid reasons for not proceeding any project. With the help of feasibility
study one can increase the success rate of project, thus, making the project time and cost
effective.
c. Background
KFC uses business information system whose aim is to provide right information to the
right person and at the right time, which also enhances their functional aspects. Communication
within the departments of restaurant and as well to other ones in the city has been conducted
very easily. By applying this system it would lead to bringing down of all linguistic,
geographical or cultural boundaries. All the information can be accessed anytime which results
in the effective working of the project. It increases the production of the company and enhances
operations which are cost effective. There is no need of integration of the system with others as
it already has the feature of integrating systems of the company itself(Rajnoha and et.al., 2014).

There are certain issues with respect to system functionality , user requirement, resources
needed including funding and human resources. These issues can be related to stake holders,
engineers or developers,within the coordinating team, technical issues and problems in raising
funds or taking wrong investment decisions and poor management of human resources. For
resolvent of these issues effective system of information should be implemented which results in
the proper supply of information in the department resulting in proper management of decision
making(Rajnoha and et.al., 2014).

It can be concluded that KFC operates efficiently by implementing business information
system in the company which provides right data whenever required. It helps the organisation
by storing its data systematically, assisting them to take decisions and also facilitating their

development. Various department of KFC like marketing and sales, operations, accounting and
finance and human resource requires information system for proper functional running of each
department. Where one of the best method in information system is feasibility study which
improves the life and success rate of any project scheduled within the organisation.
Recommendation can include maintenance of the information system is the main area of
concern which is complex and costly; also demands much time. Therefore maintenance should
be done timely to avoid any dis functioning of system which lead to loss of data thus affecting
the company(Rajnoha and et.al., 2014).

Primary stakeholders
It includes those stakeholders which are immediate communities of interest for
KFC,which are considered to be vital for KFC's growth. Their high involvement lead to
expansion of KFC but these groups does not have positive feelings towards them. If the product
of company is not up to the expectations of these stakeholders,then they prefer to choose
alternative options available to them as switching cost is low.

Secondary stakeholders
In the secondary stakeholders there groups which are intermediaries for the process
which may include agencies of government and certain institutional bodies. The influence of this
group has stronger influence as compared to primary.
Tertiary Stakeholders
This type of stakeholders includes customers, managers and board of directors and other
individuals who has a direct influence on the company. These may affect the production and the
sales of companies product and even the funds for them are also affected. Media and suppliers
are also tertiary stakeholders of KFC(Valacich, Kroenke and Wilson, 2017).

Every workers require adequate condition of safety and health. They also need a good
working environment with satisfiable salaries and wages which affects the working of
employees and thus, affecting the productivity of company itself.
Shareholders
They only see their way to maximise wealth. Once they find it beneficial to invest , they
would buy maximum shares of company but if it is in loss; stakeholders will loose their interest.
Media
They are always eager to analyse the company and act as a source of information to the
customers regarding any action related to the company itself.
Supplier
They only requires to act fairly in the supplying and receiving of the goods by the
company.
