Abstract
Main purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the impact of employee job satisfaction
and motivation on efficiency and performance of an organisation. This is a main aim behind
doing this dissertation and for accomplishing this, different activities were used by researcher in
systematic manner. literature review is a main activity that was done by gathering secondary
information from articles, books, publication research and many other sources. Literature review
helped investigator in fulfilment of research gap as well as in attaining of research aim and
objectives successfully. Research methodology was completed for exampling each methodology
in successful manner. This supported researcher in gathering as well as evaluating of accurate
data about the topic. Data analysis was done by using frequency distribution analysis as an
analytical technique. This helped researcher in analysing of quantitative data within less time and
in systematic manner. conclusion and recommendations are last part of the dissertation that was
completed by researcher through explaining information about each activity in systematic and
successful manner. Along with this, in recommendations several suggestions were provided to
the business organisation in enhancement of research title effectively.

Introduction
Overview
Job satisfaction is defined as the level of happiness or contentment employees feel with
their job. Motivation is the reason for employee's actions, goals and willingness. Employee's
motivation and satisfaction is important part of the business growth and success. Motivated
employees play an essential role in attracting of larger customer base that results in improvement
of business performance. Many employers have started to identify that a happier worker is highly
motivated and also tend to perform business activities in effective manner. Therefore, job
satisfaction and motivation of employees is significant for company in enhancement of business
efficiency and performance (Clements and Kamau, 2018). For this dissertation, Iceland food plc
is a selected organisation.
Background of the company
Iceland food plc is a British supermarket chain that specialise in selling of frozen and
non-frozen items. In frozen foods, prepared meals and vegetables are covered and in non-frozen
items dry goods, dairy and meat are included. Company was founded by Sir Malcolm Walker in
1970 and headquartered in Deeside, Wales. Company has large number of employees that are
motivated. This will help business organisation in attainment of long term goals and objectives
within minimum time period and in successful manner. Company also wants to motivate their
workers and increase satisfaction towards their job (De Gieter, Hofmans and Bakker, 2018). It is
essential for an organisation in accomplishment of competitive advantages.
Aims and objectives
Research aim:
Main aim of the research is “To identify the impact of employee job satisfaction and
motivation on efficiency and performance of an organisation”. A study on Iceland food plc.
Research Objectives
To identify the significance of employee job satisfaction on business performance of an
organisation.
To determine the importance of motivated employees in increasing business efficiency of
Iceland food plc.
To explore ways or techniques for motivating employees towards their job.

To examine the strategies through which Iceland food plc can increase satisfaction level
of employees.
Research questions
How employee job satisfaction helps an organisation in improving of its business
performance?
What are the major advantages of motivated employees in enhancing business efficiency
of Iceland food plc?
What are the effective techniques or ways for motivating workers towards their job?
What are the essential strategies through which Iceland food plc can increase satisfaction
level of employees?
Rationale of the study
Biggest reason for selecting this topic is to determine the effectiveness of job satisfaction
and motivation in improvement of business efficiency and performance. Along with this, there is
also a main reason behind conducting present investigation is to determine the issues of
dissatisfaction and demotivation among employees at workplace This research is significant at
personal and professional level. Depending on professional level, current research or topic will
help in increasing of students understanding about the importance of motivation and job
satisfaction for company. At personal level, this investigation facilitate researcher by improving
its research skills including time management, data collection, literature review, data analysis
and many other (Dubbelt, Demerouti and Rispens, 2019). All these are essential for researcher in
completing of full dissertation systematically and successfully. Therefore, current research is
extremely essential for personal and professional level.
Structure of the dissertation
This is an essential and significant part of the dissertation because it helps in identifying
of each chapter and their purpose within an investigation. All chapters along with their purpose
will be explained as below:
Introduction: This is a first part that covers number of sub-activities which are research
aim, objectives, rationale, background of the company, overview of title etc. These are
significant for investigator in conducting of second chapter which is literature review.

Literature review: For this chapter, secondary data will be gathered from different
sources. These sources are articles, books, journals etc. All sources are useful in collecting of
secondary information about the existing topic. Purpose of this section is identification of gap.
Research methodology: This is a main part of dissertation because it helps researcher in
collecting as well as analysing of appropriate data about the topic. For present study, primary and
secondary both sources are used for collecting data. Secondary data will be gathered for
literature review by using articles, books etc. sources. For gathering primary information,
questionnaire will be applied for collecting information from 20 managers of Iceland food plc.
Data analysis and discussion: Data analysis will be done by using frequency distribution
analysis as an analytical technique. Discussion has been completed by discussing both primary
and secondary information collected from the sources (Han and Hong, 2019).
Conclusion and recommendations: This is a last part of the dissertation that helped in
achieving of aim and objectives of the research. In conclusion, entire information about the
chapters will be covered in clear and short manner. In recommendation, some useful suggestions
will be given for improving the research title.

Literature review
Literature review defined as a comprehensive summary of previous investigation on a
topic. It is a survey of scholarly sources or previous studies on a specific field of study. It
provides an overview or summary of current knowledge, allowing investigator to identify
applicable theories, gaps and methods in the existing research. Main purpose of literature review
is to determine the gaps in the present investigation. In previous studies, there were information
exist about the job satisfaction and motivation of employees, but there were insufficient or lack
of data regarding the significance of motivation and job satisfaction in improving efficiency and
performance of company. This is a main gap and for fulfilling this, research questions will be
followed which are described as below:
How employee job satisfaction helps an organisation in improving of its business performance?
According to the Hargadon (2018), job satisfaction is a positive response of an employees
towards their job. It is intangible and for measuring or recognising this, it is only possible by
knowing the way employees behave within the workplace. There are different benefits of job
satisfaction for an organisation. These are lowers voluntary turnover, reduce employees
Absenteeism, reduce long term HR cost, boosts employee’s productivity, increase employee
retention, contributes positive outputs towards employee referral programs, lower employee
turnover, create brand ambassadors etc. All these are major advantages of job satisfaction that
helps company in improving of business performance as well as efficiency level.
As per the view presented by Schwab (2019), there are some benefits or advantages of
employee’s job satisfaction which will be explained as below:
Employee engagement: Satisfied workers translate into engaged workers. Engagement
can be analysing through employee's roles, company, teams and community. This is a biggest
advantage of employee job satisfaction that turn to helps company in improvement of its
performance as well as efficiency successfully.
Customer satisfaction: Employee satisfaction is important part of customer relations.
Satisfied employees treat their customers as a main member that results in improved brand
image. This facilitate in increasing of customer base that turn to impact on business performance
in positive manner.
Employee Retention: Attracting top performance is important for growing of company in
national as well as international marketplace. This is the role of an organisation to provide
