Part 1: WBS and Gantt chart with Resources
A project has been undertaken to open a subsidiary of an existing London based business
“HOT Creative”. The new office of HOT Creative would be set up at Auckland New Zealand to
target the Australian market. The General manager of the company have decided to convert a
warehouse to a new office to save the cost of securing a new office building, as the cost of the
warehouse is much lower than a ready to possess office building in the intercity location. This
section of report will provide the details of the work breakdown structure and the tasks
undertaken to complete the project as per execution plan. The work breakdown structure,
schedule Gantt chart and the approaches to project execution, are discussed in the sections
below.
1.1. Project Plan/Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Approach of Project Execution
It is the responsibility of a project manager to plan and execute a project in a detailed
manner (Schwalbe, 2015). A work plan for conversion of a warehouse into an office is thus
prepared. The work breakdown structure of converting a warehouse into an office is indicated in
figure 1.

The WBS in the picture 1 represents the summary tasks of all the activities that are to be
executed in conversion of a warehouse into an office. The phase 1 is one of the most vital phases
of this projects as it aims in gathering the detailed project requirements along with the
preparation of the project plan. This plan is prepare by the project manager and is required to be
followed by the team, including the contractors and the interior designers. The phase 2 of the
WBS deals with making necessary preparations for the project. In this phase, the most
appropriate contractor is hired along with hiring an interior designer. After taking the detailed
measurements in this step, a detailed plan and design layout is prepared for the next phase which
is execution and building phase. The phase three of the work breakdown structure deals with the
actual construction works to be completed, which include, development of a kitchen, toilet and a
meeting space. After completion of all the necessary construction works, the entire office is set
up in the fourth and the fifth phase to deliver a ready to move-in office in the sixth phase.
1.2. Gantt chart/Network Diagram
The schedule estimation of the project indicates that it would take 180 days to complete
the entire work of converting a warehouse into an office. These 180 days exclude the fixed off of
Saturday and Sunday along with the public holidays. The statutory holidays considered are
indicated as follows-
