Part 1: Career Management Skills
Answer 1.1
Yap Chui Chin is a successful human resource professional of Singapore’s leading
company of entertainment “Golden Village Multiplex Private Limited”. Her career spanned
more than twenty five years into the business and being the human resource manager of the
organization, she is leading her team members with full faith and confidence. On
interviewing her over phone, she said, “Most people achieve bigger if and only if they have
the determination to work hard and keep on trying their best.” The human resource
professional answered each question with details and outlined her image as a strong person.
She mentioned how hiring the right employee can prove beneficial for the company.
Moreover, she shared her opinions regarding the leadership styles and skills a human
resource manager should posses. Providing training and mentoring to the employees, on a
daily basis can foster the working environment.
Lisa Brown Morton is a human resource professional of a non-profit organization. It
was found while interviewing her that she used to work for a large multinational company in
the HRM position. She said, “I needed to cultivate more from the generalist background for
growing professionally.” After working there, she felt that she had an interest in the non-
profit organization’s human resource needs. Like Chin, she also believes in hiring the right
employee for the organization’s benefits. She also believes that modern day social media can
help in creating an influence over the people’s minds. She mentioned in the interview that
blogging and writing on social networking sites can bring in huge change in the society.
Presently, she is the President and Founder of the ITM Group. Along with that, she is also the
founder of HR Bartender.

The Global Multiplex organization is more organized and hires skilled personnel for
the company’s benefits. They organize training and mentoring sessions every day for thirty to
forty minutes, in order to train the employees for providing the best services. They take help
from professional experts and certified trainers for training sessions. Moreover, the company
organizes orientation and induction programs for the new candidates, in order to give them a
clear view of the company itself. In addition to this, they take care of each and every
employee’s demands and expectations. They manage to provide a well balanced work as well
as personal life to them. The employees are encouraged and motivated to share their opinions
and views regarding the organizational issues. However, the company is more professional
than the non-profit organization.
In the next case, the non-profit organization tends to have a friendlier working
environment. However, the organization believes in hiring the right personnel for their
betterment. They take care of their employees’ and staff members’ well being. The vision of
the organization is to serve for the mankind. Moreover, they believe in providing a perfect
working life to the employees. They are motivated to raise their voice whenever necessary, if
they find anything going wrong and against them. The organizational management
encourages innovation in their working techniques. They promote and allow their employees
to socialize. In addition to this, they are encouraged to share their thoughts and views for the
organization’s benefits. Apart from all these, the organization highly encourages diversity in
their human resource policies. According to Stone (2013), introducing diversity at
workplaces can enhance team effectiveness and relationships. This in turn proves to be
beneficial for any company.

Recently while working with a company, I faced an issue associated with workplace
biasness. I was not satisfied with their conduct and thus, reported the whole incident to the
concerned authority in the first stage. I felt it was necessary to talk about this matter and have
an open conversation. Informing my work friends or going public at the first place would
have been inappropriate, as it could create unnecessary commotion. There was also a chance
of them not believing me. Moreover, I was determined not to keep quite as it could have
caused severe consequences later. However, supporting the issue would have been
completely unethical. In the meantime, I gathered some evidences against the issue and
directly raised my point on the basis of ACS Code of Ethics. They took actions against the
personnel involved with this and my work friends appreciated me for taking such a bold step.

which I received is limited. I have limited experience, but I want to gain more. There may be
few difficulties for me in coping up with a large multinational organization. However, people
learn from their mistakes. I am sure that with proper training and mentoring, I will be able to

fulfill the demands and needs of the organization as practice makes a man perfect. Moreover,
I have good leadership qualities, which will help me in achieving great success.
In addition to this, digital technology offers ample amount of opportunities for setting
up one’s personal profile. In the era of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, self
marketing has become easier and broader. In my LinkedIn profile, I am going to present
myself as a hard headed human resource manager. Along with that posting thoughts about
leadership skills and qualities weekly, will help me promote myself on a long run. First thing
that is to be kept in mind is the impression, therefore, selecting a professional profile picture
and definitely not some unprofessional selfie, will be impactful. This might require help from
some professional photographer, but the results will worth the effort. The headline of the
profile will be the job summaries with an impactful title, which will help others, differentiate
my job profile from the competitors. Moreover, a strong action plan of career development
skills will help me in understanding my goals and creating a roadmap to success.
However, the job of a human resource manager is very challenging. He/she needs to
make correct decisions at the right place and time. Selecting, recruiting and hiring employees
fall under his/her job description. Therefore, he/she needs to have an eye for selecting the
right and deserving candidate, on the basis of the qualifications and experiences. With my
experiences from the previous jobs, I have gained an understanding and experience regarding
this. Moreover, my challenging nature will help me prove myself in the new job. I am
hardworking and dedicated. I can easily identify my in competencies and work on that, in
order to improve those areas. In addition to this, I have good communication and networking
skills. I am also very familiar with English grammar and its usage. I have no trouble in
adapting various style guides.

16HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
The interviews which I have taken have helped me a lot in gaining useful insights
regarding human resource management. It was impactful and enhanced my interest in
becoming a human resource manager of a reputed company. I came to know about how
hiring the right employee can prove beneficial for the company. Moreover, it helped me gain
useful insights regarding the leadership styles and skills a human resource manager should
posses. Providing training and mentoring to the employees, on a daily basis can foster the
working environment. The vision and mission of the organization must be clear. In addition
to this, I strongly believe that providing a perfect working life to the employees can bring in
huge success for the companies itself. They must be motivated and encouraged to voice their
opinions and thoughts whenever necessary, without any fear.
Furthermore, if the employees find anything going wrong they must file a complaint
against them to the higher authorities, without any hesitation. The organizational
management encourages innovation in their working techniques. Promoting and allowing the
employees to socialize can help the company succeed on a long run. Apart than these, I feel
that the employees must be encouraged to share their thoughts and views for the
organization’s benefits. The organization must also encourage diversity in their human
resource policies. Introducing diversity at workplaces can enhance team effectiveness and
relationships. This in turn proves to be beneficial for any company or organization.
