choice during my long vacations out of college. I will look forward to be a volunteer in tourist
organization that perhaps, guide the tourists who come to visit Canada in the summer time. As a
result of interaction with people from different backgrounds, I will tremendously improve my
social and communication skills.
This is very crucial because it enables me to gain practical experience which shall be very vital
in my future career in the tourism industry as an accountant. I shall be ready to work in any
department in the hotel because it is usually very challenging for an individual to enter into a
senior position after graduating. As a result, I usually request to learn how various departments
in a hotel function so as to be flexible once I enter the hotel industry. Most of the highly ranked
individuals in the hospitality industry started from the bottom line to high positions hence I
aspire to develop my career through the progression from a tour operator, travel and airline agent
to be a full manager in the hotel department. I have too much passion for travelling, accounting
and management. This has inspired me to focus my career on tourism industry which shall
enhance my job satisfaction and fulfilment. From my own perception, most of the skills that have
value in the business sector are relevant in tourism industry more so if the skills are applied
effectively.

operations, and other business ventures in the company. Consequently, the risk of losing funds
will act as a motivating factor when creating budgets as well as determining the viability of

Tourism industry is one of the major contributors to the economic growth of my country.
Studying management and accounting enables me to learn more about preparation, presentation
and interpretation of financial records, which empowers investors, management, employees,
lenders, government and other stakeholders to make practical decisions and plan an effective
budget (Lamminmaki, 2012).It also equips me with skills on how to read and interpret
information on accounting in daily and annual businesses’ reports as well as financial reporting
within the tourism sector. It also assists me to become familiar with practice and principles of
presenting information to the top management.

Career Approach in tourism industry
After graduation, I will look for an internship at Sheraton on the Falls hotel. As an
accountant in the accounting department of the hotel, I will be exposed to the business
environment as well as the financial requirements in the industry(Ayeh, Leung,Au &
Law,2012).In this position, I will be in charge of coordinating different departments that deal
with money in the organization. I will remain in this position for another twelve months. During
this time, I will have attained the position of a team leader that will introduce me to management
activities. For instance, large commercial firms dominate the travel sector while the small
operators must compete for a market share (Sørensen & Jensen, 2015). In this way, an internship
will orient me to the different business models and approaches that are required to make a
company successful. After twelve months in this position, I will look for a different position in
the same department. This will provide a springboard to learn the different sources of accounting
in the tourism industry as well as the various methods of accounting. In this way, I will have the
chance to create accounting documents and find ways to improve the cash flow.
