INTRODUCTION
I recently graduated from University and want to develop my career in Retail industry.
Respective industry include selling of finished goods or products to potential consumers in the
exchange of money. This will include various sub divisions such as drugs, departmental and
convenient store, grocery and many more. There are numbers of successful multinational retail
companies such as Wal Mart, TESCO, Metro Group, Amazon, Carrefour and so on (De Vos and
Cambré, 2017). I want to start and develop my career in respective industry for which I need
numbers of specific skills, experience and abilities so that I can perform effectively. Topics
included in this report are general trends that impact on retail industry as well as it will also
include required skills, experience and knowledge.
ANALYSIS AND APPLICATION
General trends which will impact on retail profession/ industry
Trends are changing on the continuous basis and it is necessary for a company as well as
individual to cope up with that trends as that will help them in developing effective and
successful future. I want to develop my career in retail industry after completing my graduation
and for that I need to understand new as well as up coming trends of retail industry. This is so
because that will help me in preparing my self according to requirement of sector as well as that
will also lead me to become successful at industry. Below some trends which I need to consider
while developing decision or plans related to my career are given:-
Globalisation: In today's time every retail company want to expand their business at
global or international level. This is so because through that they able to gain numbers of
opportunities that lead to expansion of business in effective manner as well as it will also
help companies to increase their profitability as well as market shares (Gati and Levin,
2015). I want to develop my career in retail industry which is expanding globally and for
that they requirement numbers of skills and abilities in their employees. According to
which I need to increase my skills, abilities and knowledge so that I can develop my
career in respective industry successfully.
Change in technology: Technology is changing day by day and it is essential for
company as well as individuals to cope up with the senior as that will help them in
understanding situation and developing decision accordingly (Hemmings, 2015). At the

which are currently used in retail industry.
Increase in competition: Now a day retail industry is growing day by day at
international level due to which there is increase in competitions. In past people able to
get job in retail sector easily without requiring any special skills, knowledge and abilities
(Jiang, 2017). But in today's time an individual need numbers of skills, abilities,
experience as well as knowledge so that they can get job in respective sector successfully.
I also want to develop my career in retail industry and I analyse that I need to develop
and polish my skill, abilities and knowledge so that I get my ideal job in reputed
multinational retail company.
Required high creativity skills: In order to develop career in specific industry a person
required numbers of skills and capabilities so that they can perform their job effectively
and impressively. In respect of retail industry creativity skills is necessary as that will
help them in attracting customers as well as encouraging them to buy their products and
services (Khlevniuk, Nordlander and Raleigh, 2015). I want to develop my career in retail
industry and accordingly I need to develop as well as polish my creativity skills so that I
can get ideal job in retail sectors effectively and impressively.
These are some of the main trends which I need to consider and develop my self so that I
can get my ideal job in multinational retail company.

Patience: It is one of the important personal skill which is required in the employees who
want to develop their career in retail sector. This is so because individual who are
working in respective sector need to interact with all types of peoples or customers as
well as it is also necessary for them to handle them properly without getting impatience. Friendliness: For retail employees it is essential to be always friendly with everyone so
that customers get satisfy and stay connected with company for the long time duration
(Lauby-Secretan and et. al., 2016). This is also necessary for retail industry employees as
if they will not friendly with customers then they feel unsatisfied which directly impact
on their performance, company goodwill and profitability. Sales skills: Person want to set or establish their career in retail industry need to have
sales skills as that will help them in attracting customers and encouraging them to set buy
their products as well as services. This skill will also help them in conduct several
practices such as achieving sales goal, arranging display impressively, advising shoppers,
convince customers and so on. Self motivated: For a person conducting retail work need to be self motivated as they
need to go through numbers of ups and downs which impact on their moral as well as
work quality. So if a person will be self motivated then they can attain their goal effective
as well as they also able to attract and retail customers properly.
Working under pressure: In retail sector when there is peek time employees need to
conduct multiple work so that their firm can attain their desire goal. In this situations they
also need to work under pressure so this skill will help employees in service their firm
effectively and impressively.

expertise which a person need to have if they want to develop their career in retail sector

operating skill as well as they also need to have technological friendly so that they can

There are numbers of job profile at the retail industry such as cashier, butcher, customer
service representative, district manager, first line supervisor, training manager, human resource
specialist, loan officer, information technology coordinator, sales manager, marketing manager,
loan officer and many more. From which I want to develop my career as a Sales Manager at the
multinational retail company. I am attracted toward this job role because it will provide me huge
opportunities to increase my skills, abilities and knowledge as well as this also help me in
polishing my skill that I already have such as communication, understanding, listening and many
more. This practice will help me in developing my career more effectively and successful at
multinational retail company. Along with this, sales manager job role directly relate to the retail
industry because in respective sector main duty is to interact with customers and encouraging
them to purchase their products and services. So by performing job role of sales manager I can
effectively interact with customers. Moreover in future I am looking my self as a senior sales
manager of famous retail brand which operates at multinational level.
CONCLUSION
By above discussed point it can be summarise that, for every individual it is necessary to
develop as well as polish their skills, abilities, knowledge and experience so that they can start
their career successfully and effectively. Along with this, a person also need to consider current
trends of market so that they can conduct strategic planning accordingly as well as that will also
help them in establishing a successful career. Such as in retail sector there are numbers of trends
which may impact on a person job such as globalisation, change in technology, increase in
