INTRODUCTION
Career refers to an occupation opted by an individual for a certain period of one’s life
together with future opportunities for progress or elevation (Aluttis, Bishaw and Frank, 2014).
The present assignment is based upon an overview of career in Human Resource Management
along with the skills and the competences that an HR professional should hold. Human resources
can be defined as the personnel operating within an organisation. In this regard, HRM refers to
the management of people of a company. The roles and responsibilities of HR professionals
constitute hiring, employment, selection, recruitment, deployment, training and development.
This assignment puts light upon personal analysis in relation to skills acquired by a person to
become successful in professional life, i.e., career. Besides this, career action plan is included to
effectively carry out personal development and attain the stipulated targets. Lastly, a CV is
incorporated for the designation of HR manager.
Personal Analysis
To pursue a career in the field of human resource management, an individual must
possess certain essential skills and competencies by way of which one’s responsibilities can be
effectively achieved. The person should have adequate and relevant knowledge of the specific
field in which they intend to pursue career as this provides assistance to them in gaining an
understanding of their roles and responsibilities (Bohnenkamp, Stephan and Bobo, 2015). This
will provide them with the opportunity to carry out self development in accordance with it
respectively. The HR professional must acquire a number of skills, knowledge and capabilities in
order to attain every requirement related to their job profile to ensure that the timely execution of
roles and responsibilities. Being a graduate, it is essential for me to determine the skill set that is
already held by me in order to elevate within the career as HR professional. Thus, it becomes
essential for a person to gain knowledge of their skills, competencies and abilities with a view to
lay excessive emphasis upon enrichment to ensure that a desirable job within the HR field can be
pursued. The skills that are required to be present in me are briefly described below:-
HR professionals are required to possess optimum communication skills comprising of
listening, speaking and writing in order to ensure that responsibilities are executed in an effective
manner (Hall and et. al., 2015). In this relation, I consider that I possess good communication
abilities. I possess the ability and skill to actively listen to other people and gain an

procedures and policies. In such situations, an individual must possess patience and motivation
so as to effectively handle any type of situation.
Yet another crucial skill is critical thinking. With the help of this skill, I can determine
the alternate solutions to problems by carrying out an analysis and evaluation of the strengths
and weaknesses of the current condition. This will assist me in formulation of effective decisions
by taking into consideration the practical as well as logical aspects related to the same. This
depicts the importance of decision-making skills through which I can effectively make decisions
for the welfare of company as well as its employees. Also, I possess presentation skills by way
of which I am easily able to express my view point in front of other individuals and get
knowledge of the way in which I should facilitate behavioural conduct with other people. This
will aid me in dealing with personnel having diverse behavioural characteristics.
An HR professional should also have knowledge about various laws, management and
administration, employees etc. This illustrates that the formulation of strategies should be such
that I can execute my roles and responsibilities in an appropriate manner. For pursuing a career
in the field of HR and ensuring growth, individuals must undergo a 3 month internship from any
company with positive goodwill along with experience of 2-3years within same work field.
