 Astratech Communications International is among the
leading suppliers of fiber optic transceiver components
used in telecommunications industry.
 The Company is based in Irvine, Southern California.
 The major clients of the Company are Northern Telecom,
Ericsson and Alcatel.
 The Company’s annual sales is estimated to be around 500
million dollars with an employee strength of 2500 in
different locations.

DESCRIPTION OF THE CASE
STUDY:
Identification of certain problems in the
organizational scope pertaining to its
performance and profitability.
Formation of an executive team with the
responsibility of executing a change regarding
four-day workweek for the employees and
appointment of a new Chief Financial Officer for
cost accounting.
Lack of significant results after the change, the
client’s demands for the company started
reducing.
Dissatisfaction among the employees, which was
further criticized by the media.
