Introduction
Leadership plays a significant role in determining the course of the business activities
and process to maximize efficiency in the operations and ensure the development and growth
of the organization1. The report will present an analysis of the case study on Astratech
Communications International (ACI) and the problems that were observed in the
organizational operations by the Chief Executive Officer of the company, George Anderson.
According to the case study, Astratech Communications International was one of the leading
suppliers of the components of fiber optic transceiver used in the telecommunications
industry. The major clients of the Company were recognized to be Northern Telecom,
Ericsson and Alcatel. These clients used the fiber optic components in the manufacture of
light-wave equipment. Astratech Communications International is based in Irvine, California,
with an annual sales estimated to be around 500 million dollars and an employee strength of
2500 in different locations like its headquarters in South California, Scotland and Mexico2.
The Company’s unit in Mexico was established in order to effectively utilize the opportunity
of low labor costs available in the country and its proximity to the Californian headquarters.
The unit in Scotland was established in order to relieve the company of the challenges of
European tariff rates. The report will further analyze the challenges that were observed
involving the downsizing of employees within the organizational structure and the working
hours of the employees.
