“Causes Of poor quality products in Nestle and the strategies that should be implemented to
improve quality”
It has been examined that it is important to maintain the quality of the products so that it can be
easy to boost sales and also it will help to achieve success in the competitive market. If quality of
the products is not maintained than it can be difficult for the company to attain growth in the
market. So, in this paper the discussion will be made on the Nestle Company in relation to the
poor quality of the products and in the last phase of the report the emphasis will be given on
improving the overall quality.
The first cause related with poor quality is short term planning. It can be observed that baby milk
formula is the product and the issue related to quality has been enhanced. In this, it has been
observed that company focused on violating the ethical marketing codes and also manipulated
the customers with the misleading nutritional claims related with baby milk formulas. Due to
short term planning, the company focused on violating the ethical marketing codes. The
company was not able plan the overall process at the time of introducing the product in the
market. It is observed that company marketed the infant milk formulas despite a prohibition by
the UN’s World health organization. Due to lack of planning, the company was not able to
maintain the quality of the product and it has also impacted the image of the company in the
market (Scrinis, 2016).
Due to short term planning, the company also ignored its own nutritional advice at the time of
promotion of the product in the market. The nutritional advice which is necessary for the
company to give was not provided to the customers that led to confusion in the mind of the
customers. At the time of marketing, the company was not able to focus on the proper planning.
Like in South Africa, Nestle considered sucrose in the infant milk formula, while at the time of
marketing in Hong Kong and Brazilian the company stated that formula is beneficial as it is free
of sucrose. It is good for the health of the baby. So, the message given by the company to the
customers in not in a planned manner and it has also given negative impact on the product
(Ogbari and Borishade, 2015).
Failing to understand the needs of the customer is also one of the causes in relation to the Nestle
Company. It has been observed that needs of the customers are important aspect that should be
considered by the company so that it can be easy to offer introduce the products according to

their needs. The sale of Maggi is also impacted due to the quality issue and the company was
also not able to focus on the target market and on their requirement. The targeting was not done
by the company due to which the need and want of the customers was impacted. The company
lacked in understanding its target market and was not able to handle the overall crisis of the
management. Maggi was also banned in the market due to the issue related to the market and
also the company was not able to target the right market segment (Maurya, 2017).
It has been evaluated that lack of supervision and monitoring is also the cause of poor quality of
the product. When Uttar Pradesh food safety commissioner sent the notice to the company to
seek the clarification in context to MSG and Lead present in the samples of Maggi, then also the
company delayed in the overall process of internal monitoring. Also, the MSG and Lead present
in large amount is just due to lack of supervision. In the workplace, there was not supervision
given by the leaders or the managers and it has impacted the quality of the products offered by
Nestle Company. In the company, it is necessary for the managers to give proper guidance to the
employees so that they can take right decisions at the time of production process or in relation to
any actions taken in the workplace. To maintain the quality of the products it is important for the
company to focus on maintaining proper supervision on the employees so that direct direction
can be taken by them in the workplace (Galalae and George, 2017).
There are various strategies that should be considered by the company to bring improvisation in
the overall quality of the products offered in the market. The first strategy is related with
training. It is important for the company to train its employees so that they can have knowledge
of the overall operations taking place in the workplace. Training is an essential part in the
workplace as it boosts the overall efficiency and production level of the employees. If employees
work with efficiency then it can be easy for the management to maintain the quality of the
products. Training is the best strategy that should be considered by the company and it should be
given according to the capability of the employees in the workplace. For the fresher’s in the
workplace it is important to set up the new employee initiation program that can help to train the
employees and also it will emphasize on maintaining the quality issues from the first day. So,
training is one of the best strategies that should be considered so that growth can be attained in
the competitive market (Haff and Triplett, 2015).
