According to the situation given about the hiring of an orphan girl of age of 12 years in
work, there are number of options available with the American executive to resolve the issue
(Hill, 2010). However, all these option should be initiated by him on a sequential manner or
pattern. It is stated in the case that the particular company is having strict rules regarding the
hiring of child labor (Maconachie & Hilson, 2016). Thus, it is recommended that the American
executive should deal with the issue internally. In this case, he should persuade the local
manager in making him aware about the disadvantages of hiring a child labor and how he can be
prosecuted according to the rules and regulations of the company. However, it is also stated that
the local manager has given the opinion that the child is orphan and she have nowhere to go. In
this case, the American executive should deal with the situation externally (Alam, 2015). In the
following sections, the different external options available with the American executive in
dealing with this situation will be discussed.
The first step that should be initiated by the American executive is to analyze the current
socio-cultural environment of the particular country to identity their social trends and patterns.
This will help the American executive to understand about what will be the better alternative for
the child if she is not given the job opportunity (Putnick & Bornstein, 2015). This step will also
enable the American executive to identify the potential areas that will be the perfect alternatives
for the child. It is recommended that the American executive should look out for a child home
where orphans are being kept. However, it should be noted that searching an orphan home for the
child is not an official duty of the American executive but it is depending on their ethical
behavior and decision. Thus, as per the ethical approach, it can be seen as the moral duty of the
American executive to seek a better alternative for the child (Crossan, Mazutis & Seijts, 2013).
Furthermore, it is stated in the case and that the host country is a poor nation and hence it can be

concluded that no better opportunities will be available there. In this case, corporate social
responsibilities of the company can be beneficial for them.
In the current time, majority of the business organizations from the developed countries
with having their subsidiaries in the under developed countries mainly initiate their corporate
social responsibilities in developing the society in the poor nations (Suliman, Al-Khatib &
Thomas, 2016). Thus, in this case, the American executive can design the social approach of his
company by making some provision of educating the children and making their future. If this
step can be succeeded then fund will be allocated for the building of schools, children homes and
spending for their daily life (Carroll, 2015). This will be the most effective process to deal with
this issue due to the reason that in this case, the rules and regulations of the company will be
maintained along with securing the future of the child. Moreover, this strategy can also help in
enhancing the goodwill of the company in the host country by initiating a holistic process of
social development (Cheng, Loannou & Serafeim, 2014).
However, if the particular organization is not having such provision of corporate social
responsibility then it is recommended that the American executive should take the assistance of
the local authority. This is due to the reason that helping the orphan child will require the
permission from the local authority (Hill, 2010). In this case, the American executive should take
the assistance in seeking the perfect alternative for the child and how the local authority can help
in securing the future of the child. If it is seen that perfect assistances can be given the local
authority for the child then it is recommended that the American executive should hand over the
girl to the local authority (Escueta et al., 2014). However, on the other hand, if this is the case
that local authority is not effective enough in securing the child, then it will become important
