Introduction
Conflict situation may arise during the emergency situation in the ICU. These conflicts
may arise due to the inappropriate communication styles, providing insufficient information and
inappropriate approach for providing treatment to the patient. These conflicts may arise between
individuals of staff and in between the patient or family and doctors of ICU. During the
emergency situation like brain hemorrhage stroke to the patient, registered nurses provide care
and treatment to the patient with their staff members followed by the doctor in the ICUs. During
the care and treatment providing time conflicts may arise in the ICU (Bochatay, et al., 2017).
These conflicts would be resolved by the help of a registered nurse providing effective
leadership, proper treatment guidance, and enhancement in the communication skills to avoid
communication gap between staff individuals and patient or their family. These conflicts would
provide effectiveness in the outcomes of the patient health and relationship with staff members
of the ICU team. These conflicts would be effective for future aspects to prevent similar conflicts
in the intensive care unit of the hospital in a similar situation (Jerng, et al., 2017).

Explanation of conflict situation
Intensive care unit (ICU) is consists of an interdisciplinary background and deal with an
emergency situation like a brain hemorrhage stroke. A 62 years old male patient has come to the
hospital with severe headache, weakness on the face, arm and leg of one side of the body,
vomiting, unconsciousness, and problem in speaking and swallowing. When he has come to the
hospital I have situated as a registered nurse in the ICU of that hospital. He has suggested for
Head computed tomography (CT) for diagnosing the exact situation of his health. Then brain
hemorrhage stroke has diagnosed during the head computed tomography scan of the patient
(Sindelar, Patel, Chowdhry, & Bailes, 2018).
During this time collective support and responsibility have shared between doctors and
individuals of the nursing staff team to provide effective care and treatment to the patient. It has
provided to the patient for the enhancement of their health situation with positive results. But due
to the rise of conflict in between doctors and nursing staff members, between the individuals of
the nursing staff team and between patients, their family and ICU members of staff, the situation
has gone to be worse in the ICU of the hospital. These conflicts have arisen due to the
communication gap, insufficient information passing and inappropriate approaches to provide
treatment and care for providing positive outcomes. During the brain hemorrhage stroke
treatment and care, conflicts between nursing staff and doctors have occurred due to the lack of
leadership, unclear decision passing, and inappropriate communication. Insufficient information
has provided to the individuals of the nursing staff at the time of providing medication and care.
It has lead to low quality and inappropriate care and medication to the patient. Because

inappropriate communication and unclear decision making has lead to misunderstanding between
the nursing staff and doctors of the ICU (Flannery, Ramjan, & Peters, 2016).
Communication gap, inappropriate decision making and lack of leadership by the
registered nurse leader have to lead to conflicts in between RN and nursing staff members. Lack
of communication, stress has to lead to misunderstanding between individuals of staff members
because they have not to be able to understand each other. Due to this, individuals of staff has
not to get supported by the RN leaders. They have not to be able to get effective leadership
during the emergency situation in the ICU. Due to this, they have not to be able to provide
effective care and treatment to the patient (Wujtewicz, Wujtewicz, & Owczuk, 2015).
Family of the patient in ICU has provided less information, less communication about the
health of the patient. They have not gotten permission to stay with the patient every time. Due to
this, the family of the patient have gotten into stress, anxiety and may lead to a rise in conflicts in
the ICU. These conflicts in the ICU have to lead to ineffectiveness in the patient-centered
nursing care and holistic nursing approaches provided by the nursing staff members. Due to this,
the patient has gotten affected during the treatment and care process. Individuals of nursing staff
may have gotten demotivated and dissatisfied by their jobs (Adams, Mannix, & Harrington,
2015).
Description of Registered Nurse (RN)
The registered nurse would be the nurse who has gotten graduated with the nursing
program having the qualification of all the requirements mentioned by a country, state or any
organization who provide license of nursing. The registered nurse has abled to enhance their skill
by getting knowledge at a higher level and has got specialization in a specific field like Clinical
Nurse Specialist, Nurse practitioner and Clinical Nurse Consultant (Birks, Davis, Smithson, &

Cant, 2016). Registered nurses have provided leadership to the individuals of the nursing staff.
RN has to lead them during the processing of emergency treatment and care provided to the
patient in the ICU. RN has provided a decision during the leadership to the nursing staff
members. RN has provided innovative approaches during the decision making for providing
treatment and care for providing positive results in the health situation of the patient (Thomas,
Seifert, & Joyner, 2016).
RN has dealt with the barriers inside the organizations to provide an effective and
positive environment in the organization and for the patient and nursing staff. For this, they have
provided motivation, support, and opportunities to the individuals of staff for providing a
positive environment and for effective results in the health of the patient. They have to lead the
staff members, engage doctors and staff collectively and provide development in their working
efficiency of providing care and treatment (Hartog & Benbenishty, 2015). They have provided
nursing at the cultural, physical and mental level of the patient. They have provided management
like measuring vital signs, providing care and treatment at the time for the patient suffering from
the life threating diseases named brain hemorrhage stroke. They have provided support to their
staff members in the management for the improvement in the health of the patient and to
minimize the cost of supportive treatment during the care and treatment of the patient (Bauer &
Bodenheimer, 2017).
Description of conflict resolution
The resolution of this conflict has to be very important for maintaining a positive
environment in the intensive care unit. So that they have provided effective management and
leadership for providing an effective decision-making process during the emergency situation
rise due to the life-threatening diseases named brain hemorrhage in the ICU of the hospital. By

providing resolution to these conflict they have abled to provide positive results in the health
situation of the patient. So for providing resolution of the conflict in between nursing staff and
the doctors, a registered nurse have managed for the minimization of communication gap
between them. For they have provided effective communication skills to the individuals of the
staff. So that they have abled to communicate with their following doctors effectively (Savel &
Munro, 2013). So as a registered nurse, I have provided engaging between doctors and
nursing staff member for enhancement of the understanding of communication and to reduce
hierarchy based gap between them. I have managed engagement of the doctors and nursing staff
so that I have abled to engage with each other by providing efficient information about the care,
treatment, and consequences of treatment with each other effectively (Brooks, Manias, &
Nicholson, 2017).
I have provided effective and high-quality leadership to the nursing staff members to
provide support and motivation to the individuals of the staff to cope with the situation. I have
provided a high quality of the decision-making process to provide effective decisions which
would be supportive in the favor of the individuals of staff. I have provided effective
communication which would be supportive and motivating for the nursing staff members. I have
provided a positive environment in the intensive care unit (ICU) so that they would be easily
communicating with individuals supporting inside the ICU. To prevent the conflicts between the
individuals of the nursing staff and family of the patient, I have provided high-quality
communication to build trust between the organization and the family of the patient. I have
provided effective communication to provide all necessary information about the patient to their
family. I have provided support and motivation to the family of the patient. I have to lead them to

The leadership provided by the nurses would be very essential in the intensive care units
(ICU). They would have the ability to lead the individuals of the nursing staff to cope with the
situation. They would have the ability to provide high quality and complex care to cope with the
situation of the patient having a brain hemorrhage stroke. By the help of effective leadership, RN
has the ability to lead their individuals of the staff for the achievement of providing the best
positive results in the health of the patient. By using effective leadership style it has easy to lead
nursing staff effectively, to make an effective decision, to provide effective communication,
management to cope with the situation (Balsanelli & Cunha, 2015).
For this, as a registered nurse, I have chosen transformational and collaborative
leadership to deal with the situation of the patient with brain hemorrhage stroke effectively. By
using a transformational leadership style, I have the ability to provide effective leading to the
individuals of the staff. I have the ability to provide effective decision making according to the
situation of the patient having a brain hemorrhage stroke. By the help of this, it would be easy to
provide high-quality care and safety to the patient (Boamah, Laschinger, Wong, & Clarke, 2018).
By using a transformational leadership style, I have the ability to communicate
effectively and I have provided information about my decision making in a meaningful way. By
using this leadership style I have the ability to provide excitement and to enhance unity in the
individuals of the nursing staff. By providing effective communication, I have the ability to
provide useful information about the patient to the members of the staff and the family of the
patient. By the help of this leadership style, I have the ability to provide motivation and support

engagement in between doctors, individuals of nursing staff and to the family of the patient for
providing positive results in the health situation of the patient. By the help of this leadership
style, I have the ability to encourage individuals of staff for providing work together (AI-Sawai,
2013).
Discussion of the outcomes of resolution for the patient and staff
By resolving conflicts between the doctors, nursing staff members and the family of staff,
positive results would be provided in the ICU of the hospital. After resolving conflicts in the ICU
positive environment get maintained in the ICU at the hospital. By resolving conflicts, the patient
has got effective patient-centered care by the individuals of the nursing staff. The patient has
treated with effective approaches like holistic nursing care. The affordable cost of the treatment
has provided to the patient. The best decision-making process has used for the treatment and care
to provide the best outcomes in the health of the patient. So that the patient has gotten the best
treatment and care in the ICU of the hospital. The communication and management skill has
gotten enhanced in the nursing staff members. Due to this, they have the ability to get
communicated with the doctors of the ICU effectively. They have provided all the required
information about the patient by the doctors. They have engaged with each other in the nursing
staff and with doctors (Dietz, et al., 2014).
They have the ability to get high quality of decision-making and leadership by the RN.
They have the ability to provide efficient working in the ICU. They have the ability to provide all

the required information about the patient to their family and provide effective communication
between the family and the members of the staff. They have enabled to provide trust and support
between family and the staff of the ICU. They have motivated and supported during the time of
the working process of treatment and care to provide to the patient. They have the ability to get
satisfied with their job (Turkelson, Aebersold, Redman, & Tschannen, 2017).
Changes provided in ICU to prevent conflicts
Changes have done in the ICU to prevent arising of a conflict situation. For this, they
have provided all the required things like needed instruments named CT scan machine,
sphygmanometer ready in the ICU. They have maintained a hygienic and positive environment
in the ICU to maintain motivation and support to deal with the emergency situation effectively.
They have provided practices after dealing with the situation of the patient in the ICU. So that
they have abled to learn how to cope with a similar situation and enhance understanding between
the staff of ICU. ICU staff has to ready to cope with the situation like brain hemorrhage in the
ICU all the time. They have provided modified training and education time to time about the
management of the emergency situation in the ICU (Pecanac & Schwarze, 2018).
Discussion of the key recommendations for future aspects
For preventing similar conflicts in the ICU again they have to provide effective
communication skills, management skills, leadership skills, and enhancement decision-making
skills. For this, they would have to provide education for the enhancement of their leadership
skills, communication skills, and management skills. For effective communication, they have to
provide communication training (Goldstein, 2013).
They would have to provide campaign for providing effective education about the
situation which may cause life-threatening diseases and may lead to the patient for the treatment

management of time effective and treatment and care would be provided at the time to the
patient. They would be able to enhance their self-awareness, self-motivation, and support to the
individuals of the nursing staff and the family of the patient. They would have to enhance
awareness about the ethics and culture surrounding them. So that would be able to provide a high
quality of patient-centered care and holistic nursing care to the patient (Twigg & McCullough,
2014).

Conclusion
For the above discussion, I have concluded that in the ICU of the hospital many
emergency situations may arise due to the life-threatening problems like brain hemorrhage
stroke. During this situation in the ICU, conflicts may arise because of communication gap, poor
leadership, ineffective decision-making process, poor management and lack of information
required. Due to these conflicts, members of nursing staff have demotivated, unsupported and
poor working efficiency during providing care and treatment to the patient. By providing high-
quality leadership and management, effective decision-making process, and effective
communication by RN, conflicts would be resolved and provide motivation and support to staff
for effective work.
By getting holistic patient-centered nursing care during high-quality care and treatment,
the patient would get effective treatment and care. To prevent similar conflicts in future
education, training and campaign would have to provide to the doctors and to the member of
nursing staff. So that they would be able to enhance their communication skills, management,
and leadership skills to deal with the situation of the patient effectively.
