Introduction
Communication plays an important role in an individual's life. This report includes
communication and oral communication reflection on my real life and how it has changed my
perfection of thinking and communicating effectively. The understanding of communication and
communications is that when the Communication is without “s” is interpreting the messages and
how the information is being conveyed from one to another entity. Communication with “s’ is
how that message is delivered to the respective person. Communication is simply a sharing,
receiving and interpreting the message and communication is how the message is delivered.
This report contains a reflection on how I communicate with my strengths and weaknesses and
how I had overcome my fear of speaking in public (Adler, Rodman, & Du Pre, 2016). I had
understood the importance of developing and bringing strong and effective communication
skills.
Interpersonal communication
Interpersonal communication is important for success in personal and professional life. It
helped me understand the effectiveness and in learning the interpersonal ability to sharpen the
major understanding of the communication and also helps in improving interpersonal skills. It is
a communication that how the relationships are created, maintained and changed (Martin &
Nakayama, 2013). The goal of communication is improving the face to face interaction.
Interpersonal communication is an essential part of communication but nowadays because of
technology advancements, direct verbal and non-verbal communication are decreasing like the
conversations through emails at the workplace. In societies, interpersonal communication has
been impacted by communications.
Models of communication Lasswell – Model is all about the way of communication
which includes the question that who says (sender), what sender says is a message, through
which channel is a medium, to whom the message is communicated is the receiver and the last is
the effect which is the feedback from the receiver. Model of communication – In this, the process
of communication is explained with some noise in between during the process. The model
communication process includes the message, encoding, decoding and editing (pre and post),
noise, feedback, channel, context (Randazzo, 2012). The messages can be given in written or

verbally and non-verbally or through some graphics and visual way. Barriers while
communication is being said as the noise of communication, interference during the two-way
communication. Feedback is when the receiver responds after receiving the message by the way
the communication is done.it can be laughter, agreement or disagreement (Chaney & Martin,
2011). Communication is converted from one way to two ways when feedback is given. Channel
is the means of the way communication is done. It can be one way or two ways.
Communication helps in many aspects in an individual's life, personal, professional
career, in family, and in social gatherings also. It is important in real life to share the information
to the oral and written communication skills are essential to deliver and understand the
information quickly and accurately (Riggio & Salinas, 2003). Poor communication reflects the
negative image of an individual, when the wrong message is delivered it may result in
misunderstanding, frustration and can be a disaster in some cases.
Communication for business or work
I believe that all human transactions are possible only through communication. As in
every workplace or businesses need people with good communication. While doing any business
whether it is managerial, technical, clerical and social, it has become an important aspect.
Because of technology advancement, it has become a faster means of communication. Every
department of a business needs communication to run the business successfully. I understand that
the absence of communication will lead to creating problems in coordination among the different
departments and confusion will be more. So the process of communication is necessary for
running a business (Lipson & Teodorescu, 2015). Effective communication helps the managers
in developing a relationship with subordinates by changing their attitudes and helps in boosting
morale.
Communication will help in the future while applying for jobs. It needs to speak
appropriately with a wide variety of people whereas maintaining good eye contact with people is
important. Learning communication helps me in listening effectively, presenting the ideas
appropriately and help me to write the emails and report clearly and concisely. Communication
will help in dealing with the people and interaction from others in the team and also help me in
expressing an opinion and will able to ask the question clearly (Dwyer, 2016).

In businesses, oral and written communications are required to deal with the customers and the
employees. When dealing with the customers it is essential to communicate effectively at every
level.
It also helped in career progression as in growing my career I will need to request
information, discuss problems, give instructions and work in teams and interaction with
colleagues and clients (Van Riel & Fombrun, 2007). As employer interview the candidates and
select the person who is confident and able to communicate properly without nervousness
because that helps in the benefit of the company.
Communication helped me in speaking concisely as earlier I use to feel nervous while
speaking in class or to teachers but lectures and guidance has helped me in speaking concisely
because it helped in communicating effectively in various situation and will help in future also to
speak with my colleagues and boss (Morreale & Pearson, 2008). Effective communication also
helps in making strong decisions and helps in improving problem-solving skills.
Oral communication
Oral communication helps in gaining the strength and overcoming with the weaknesses.
As with the study I am able to come up with the things and when I get comfortable I can speak
well. Some of the challenges which I used to face earlier were nervous while giving the
presentation but as rehearsal helped me a lot in overcoming with my challenge. I had improved a
lot after this semester, now I am able to speak confidentially in public (Grace & Gilsdorf, 2004).
After learning, I got to know that I have to work on getting over my fear of speaking and also to
become more fluent while giving a speech. Earlier I was shy in answering the questions asked,
participation in class is important for oral communication. Oral communication is very important
for the future also. It will help while working in the future in the workplace. Communication
with a colleague and also will help in giving a presentation. And the most important is job
interviews. To get the job it is important to answer the question without any nervousness and
confidence is required. Oral communication will help in the future and enhance the professional
image as said the first impression is the last impression (Marques, 2010). It also helps in
representing the business or company in front of the audience through public speaking or in

written form also. Proper attention and professionalism will help in creating a positive image in
front of the audience.
In oral communication, it includes the speaking out, audiences, planning, and structuring
for communication, rehearsal, and tools will be discussed. Speaking out - when the speaker is
speaking out in a different public situation. It can be a way of speech, or presentation at the
workplace or any work briefing (Marques, 2010). The audience is required for public speaking.
Planning is to be done for oral communication what to say, what is best to say and what the
audience likes to hear and what is required that the audience should hear and it is important that
the presentation be effective. When the presentation is to be prepared for giving in class in any
course or it may be required at the workplace to make it understand to the team regarding any
project it is important to plan and prepare in advance and rehearsed so that it will be effective
(Lipson & Teodorescu, 2015). The content required for the presentation is the pattern of the
presentation, the quantity that how much time to take for the presentation and should be focused
on the message that is to be conveyed to the public.
For me presenting the idea, thoughts, and opinion it is important to prepare the structure
which will include the opening, body and conclusion. In the beginning brief introduction will be
given through headlines and transitional phases and words. In the body, the clear content will be
delivered, all the information will be given about the presentation (Martin & Nakayama, 2013).
The conclusion includes a summary of the introduction and body. It is important to rehearse the
presentation before delivering the final presentation because it helps in analyzing what is
required to speak and what not. Rehearsal helps in taking care of non-verbal communication
also. Last is the feedback in the presentation (Robles, 2012).
I always faced the problem when I speak in front of a group. Oral communication
lectures helped in many ways. It helped in getting rid of my nervousness when speaking in things
like a job interview while giving a presentation and help me in making a good impression on the
people around me through the words that I say. I had learned the way to speak in public that
people attract towards the speaker and take the interest in listening and understanding the
message is important (Robles, 2012). In interviews, most people who are selected are the one
who speaks better, the boss thinks that they may take care of the jobs even they may not know
about that case.

I had learned that comfort and confidence are the most important while communication.
In class when I got the first opportunity to speak in front of the class, I was confident enough but
I didn’t feel comfortable while speaking. When I was speaking I was a little bit shuttering and
sweating. But after that, I started taking part more in presentations and interacting people as it
will gain my comfort and more confidence as I will get to know more about the people in the
class and after 3-4 speaking, I started to feel comfortable in public speaking also (Kauffeld &
Lehmann-Willenbrock, 2012).
I had started preparing more before the interview so that I will save time in understanding
the questions easily. And as interview skills are acquired so that I would answer the questions
more professionally and will not panic like before I used to do it. I had made myself comfortable
with it.

Conclusion
To conclude the report, communicate effectively will help in future growth and helps in
dealing with the clients, colleagues, and managers at the workplace. As good communication
helps in improving teams and inspires high performances and helps in enhancing the workplace
culture. Communication is a two-way process were to take care of verbal and von verbal
communication for effective communication. Lectures helped in communicating effectively at
each level of life and helped me in interactive with a more constructive and productive manner.
Communication is very effective for the growth and development in achieving the goals of life. It
has been analyzed that listening and responding is a significant dimension to have successful
communication in our daily life. From communication and oral communication, I had tried to
have eye contact and help myself in engaging the audience by asking the interesting question
while giving the presentation or public speaking. I had started rehearsing and preparing notes
before the presentation. For the future, I had overcome myself with the fear of public speaking
and prepared myself for job interviews also to get the best job in the future.
