INTRODUCTION
Effective communication may be defined as the ability of an individual in conveying its
thoughts and ideas to another in a very effective and efficient manner. Effective communication
with in the teams played a very important role, this is more then just efficient work. This allow
each and every team member to get the knowledge on any topic which my affect their working.
Effective communication within the team work not only build the trust among all the team
members but also boost up the moral of everyone and assist them in staying engaged in the
work(Gharaveis, Hamilton and Pati, 2018). The following report is based on the case study of the
Pedro and Maria. The following report is going to discussed about the different types of models
of communication that taught in class and the brief discussion about the types of communication
skills. This report also covers the advantage and the disadvantage of the technology in the
communication.
TASK
Discuss the models of communication
Effective communication model may be defied as the systematic representation of the
process which assist the individuals in understanding that how communication work is done. The
process which are included in these models are shown metaphorically and in symbols. Following
are models of communication which are taught in the class has been discussed below: -
Shannon and Weaver Model of Communication: -
Document Page
The Shannon and Weaver communication model is basically a mathematical theory in which the
concept of communication in liner fashion has been included. Following are the steps of this
model which is mentioned below: -
ď‚· Sender: -this is being considered as the fist step of this model. The the sender are
basically those person who originate the message or information source(Harel and
McAllister, 2019). This process start by selecting a desire message to send and to whom
and a medium through which message send. Message can be send by the sender through
multiple ways such as orally, written etc.
ď‚· Encoder: - this is the second step of this model. The encoder can be a machine or person
that convert the message which is received form the sender into signals. This model is
designed to explain the communication through the multiple means like telephone,
computer and many more that encoded the message by using the codes such as binary
digits or radio waves. Along with this a person can also be a encoder that covert the idea
into spoken words, written words and many more in order to communicate to someone.
ď‚· Channel: - this is the third step of this model in which a structure of communication has
been established that assist in receiving the information form the sender and transmit
through channel to decoder and receiver. The channels used to send the message is also
called as medium.
ď‚· Noise: - this is being considered as the fourth step and the the most important phase of
the Shannon Weaver model. Noise is basically the the interruption which is face by the
sender and receiver in sending and receiving the message. This may result in the cause of
interruption in understanding the message. The noise are of two types i.e., internal noise
and external noise.
ď‚· Decoder: - this stage is totally opposite of the encoding. In this stage the receiver convert
the signals into message(Fan and Wu, 2019). This is the reverse process of encoding.
The binary data or the radio waves is covert by the receiver into message in order to
understand the message in comfortable manner.
ď‚· Receiver: - the next step of this model id the receiver which is being considered as the
end point of the technical communication process. In this step the message is finally
received by the receiver.

ď‚· Feedback: - in this step the the receiver give the feedback based on the decoded message
to the sender. If the interruption is came in the way of communication then this directly
affect the flow of communication between the receiver and the sender.
Schramm model of communication: -
This model is also known as the Osgood-Schramm communication model which
comprises of essential elements of communication. They say that communication is basically a
two way process in which both the sender and the receiver take turns to send and receive a
message(Seguin, Tian and Zalesky, 2020). The following steps of this model has been discussed
below: -
ď‚· Source: - the sender is being considered as source of the message who composes the
desired message and send to the receiver. It is very important for the sender to compose a
clear message so that it is easily understand by the receiver. The sender have to make
sure that the message which is send to the receiver to totally relevant, essential and
precise. The message which is send by the sender is most probably encoded so that the
receiver can decode the message and easily understand.
ď‚· Receiver: - in this model the receiver is also known as the decoder. The receiver may be
defined as those one to whom the sender sent the messages (Wang and et. al., 2019).
Different types of factors have to keep in mind in order to make sure that the receiver
understand the message easily by decoding it. Along with this it is also very important
that the receiver under the source effectively. If it is not happen than the whole purpose
of message is defected.
ď‚· Message: -the message is being considered as the most important element of
communication. It may be in the form of text, audio, video, or a combination of all. The
message may be defied as the information which is passed by the sender to the receiver

through communication. The communication can be verbal or non verbal totally depend
upon the sender and receiver.
Berlo's model of communication: -
The Berlo's model of communication is also known as the SMCR model which states
that emotion is being considered as the most important aspect of the message and an integral part
of communication. The following steps of this model has been discussed below: -
ď‚· Sender: - the sender is basically the person form whom the message or the conversation
begins. The message is sent by the sender to the receiver and the receiver decode the
message(Macnamara and Gregory, 2018). This is being considered as the most common
element of all the communication model. The different types of factors which is related
as well as affecting the sender are communication, attitude, knowledge, social system and
culture.
ď‚· Message: - message may be defines the actual element or the context of communication.
This is basically the something which is transferred by the sender to the receiver in any
form such as text, video, or other media. Their are various factor which is related to the
message are structure, content, treatment, code and many more.
ď‚· Channel: - medium is basically the channel which is used by the sender in order to send
the message to the receiver. The Berlo's refer the channel to the human senses that can
assist in interpret the message. Berlo's says that on these human senses, the channel is

affected or somehow dependent the five human senses are hearing, seeing, touching,
smelling and tasting.
ď‚· Receiver: -this is the end of the communication process. The message which is send by
the sender is decoded by the receiver. According to the Berlo's all the factors which is
discussed above in this model should be in sync with the sender. This make the process
of communication more effective.
Discuss the different types of communication skill: -
ď‚· Verbal communication: - verbal communication may be defied as the way of
communication or communicating the message by using the words. This include both the
oral and written communication(Masithoh, Fauziati and Supriyadi, 2018). Example of
verbal communication are letter, texting, speech, face to face conversation, interviews.
ď‚· Non verbal communication: -this is being considered as that way of communication
which begin with emotions, needs, facial expressions, gestures. In this non verbal
platforms are used to convey the message.
The advantages and disadvantages of technology in communication.
Communication technology is system which is used for conduct a communication
between individual and groups. It provides an communication between 2 people when they are
not present physically at the same time through various techniques. Telephones, telex, fax, radio,
television etc. are some kind of gadgets which are present in today's world. Electronic data
interchange and email are some kind of computer based software which are used by an
individuals to communicate with others. There are both pros and cons of technology in
communication is present which are as follows:-
Advantages of technology in communication:-
ď‚· Speed- Electronic mail and text massaging system are some communication technology
tool that speed up the sending of information with in and outside of the organisation.
Even when using decentralized computer systems, the sharing of information within an
organization is paramount, since all data is accessed from a central unit and shared
between different departments within the organization.
ď‚· Enhance organisational communication:- Communication technology helps to create
an healthy environment of sharing information in an organization. Organizational
information is organized in one central location so anyone can access that information

when they need it. Technologies like email also allow lower-level employees to
communicate with the manager without having to give them time to meet(Sadeghi, 2019).
This allows information to flow smoothly and without barriers from bottom to top.
ď‚· Increase participation in organisational processes;- Each individual in an organisation
have specific or particular work to complete and this in controlled or monitored remotely
by the higher authorities. Therefore, everyone who are involved in an organisation
becomes active as their work is simplified through simple communication. Employees
who are unable to ask for advice can use various tools tools such as email or instant SMS
services to communicate with their colleagues present in the organization for help.
Employees can also use the same ways to participate in decision-making and innovation
procedures.
ď‚· Support open discussions:- Almost every administration have adopted the Internet
techniques to set up organizational forums where members of the organization can
discuss various problems and find a solution. In this case, members can suggest areas
which have to be transformed within the organization.
Disadvantages of technology in communication.
ď‚· Expensive- It is a very expensive procedure to to setup a new or upgraded
communication system in an running organisation. Administration can face a bad result
in setting up the communication system as it will disturb their ongoing production. They
need to create a large database that will process all of these employees' requests within a
minute, and they also need to buy a computer for each of these employees.
ď‚· Difficult training employees:- When an organization implements a new
communications technology system, it must pay an additional fee to train the
organization's employees to use that technology effectively(Birinci, Berezina and
Cobanoglu, 2018). Sometimes some employees don't learn as early as others, which can
lead to job losses.
ď‚· Advancement in technology has made employees anti- social:- New techniques has
introduced various channels for everybody that will help the to communicate with other
peoples without their physical presence. As, in result employees in the business firm can
attend their official meetings virtually from any part of the world. Therefore, most of the

employees has adopted these technologies that makes them disconnected from the
outside world. Business can conduct some of their meetings in offline form that will help
them to resolve this problem. Business administration should organize some get-together
where all their employees can meet physically and interact with each other.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that, communication is one of the crucial
part in an organisation to run their business operations fluently. If there is a good communication
pattern is present between employees of the particular firm then it will be easy for their
employees to work their assigned part. Schramm communication model, Shannon and weaver
model , Berlo are some kind of communication model which is been discussed in the above
report. Verbal and non- verbal communication patterns are also been summarized in this report.
At last, both pros and cons related to technology in communication is been featured in this file.
