Assessment Range and Conditions: This assessment will be completed outside of class
time. Some support will be provided by your teacher in class time as required.
Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that
reflects workplace conditions. Where simulation is used, it must reflect real working
conditions by modelling industry operating conditions and contingencies, as well as, using
suitable facilities, equipment and resources.
Assessment Criteria: To achieve a Satisfactory result, your assessor will be looking for your
ability to demonstrate the key skills/tasks/knowledge detailed in the Assessment Task to
industry standard.
The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and
performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of
the job role. There must be demonstrated evidence that the candidate has:
engaged with at least 1 community group in order to develop 1 action plan relevant to
community priorities

CHCCDE003 Assessment Task 3: Instructions for Students
This project needs to be uploaded to eLearn for marking.
For assessment 3 you are required to choose ONE case study from the following . We will
be working through these in class in groups, class attendance at these sessions would
significantly help you to complete this task. Task must be submitted idependently not in
groups.
Case Study 1:
You work for Woden Community Services and support a large numbers of volunteers working with
the Big Issue Magazine as one of your Community Development Initiatives. You want to highlight the
stories, roles and empowerment that Big Issue Vendors experience along with advocating for people
within the Canberra Community in poverty or hardship. Your idea is to involve vendors in the process
as much as possible, whilstengaging the very busy business and retail community around Woden in a
discussion, resioure or maybe an event. You have a limited budget, and need to keep it as sustainable
as possible.
Case Study 2:
You are working in an area of newly housing in Canberra as a Community Development worker with
the Mingle Program. Throsby is a new suburb in Gungahlin that backs onto a large nature reserve.
You have a supportive relationship with many homeowners, however people in their neighbourhood
just don’t know eachother or connect regularly. You have an initial brief to engage with the
community, learn and map its assets and plan an appropriate event or resource that will empower
the local community. You have a budget line for Throsby but also a direction to focus on sustaibability
in time.
Case Study 3:
You are working for a Regional Community Council in Bredbo, NSW. Your community has had some of
its farms including some houses in outlying areas destroyed by recent bushfires, like many other rural
areas in Australia. The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a large reduction in passing trade and lots of
people are feeling isolated, experiencing financial hardship and disempowerment. You are new to
this community but have a project brief to activate, and empower people given the current situation.
Case Study 4:
You work with the YWCA Lanyon and have received some funding for a project involving encouraging
young people to access Bicycles and other forms of emissionless transport. You have an active
partnership with SeeChange and are aware of Bike Library Bike Loan, and Bike Repair projects that
are in place in Gungahlin and other cities. The focus is to be on younger people who do not own their
own bike, or have bicyles in disrepair. Your brief includes that any program developed must be run in
large part by local young people.

Describe the Community context, what resources can you see, what are its assets. What
socioeconomic, cultural or other barriers are present?
YWCA Lanyon is operating in the country with the aim of promoting emssionless
transportation, this community have active partnership with SeeChange to provide
bike to young people of the country. There are certain resources in this
community;
Funding: this community is been funded by local community as well as from
partnership, funding will allow them to manage their working and provide bike to
young people.
Assets of this community is Bicycle and repair shops in Gungahlin and other
cities.
There are certain barrier present in this program;
Socio-economic barrier: socio-economic will become barrier in the process
because status of people will prevent them to work or join community to promote
emission less transportation (Dai and et.al., 2017). Groups will be divided into
elite and lower income level which will impact the program.
Cultural barrier: cultural barrier is one of the most common type of barrier that
will impact this program, people from different cultural will have their own
perception and might rise issue for example conflict.
What aspirations may be present in this community?
Communal welfare: communal welfare is one of the most important aspirations in
the community, this simply means each and every member of the community will
focus on communal welfare that allow them to contribute in betterment of the
socuiety and in betterment of the country. Aspirations is outcome that community
want to achieve, this simply means they will join community and its activities for
welfare of community.
Emissionless transportation: Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre
(MLYCC), have aspirations to promote emissionless transportation and allow
youth to be healthy and sustainable towards environment (Eriksen and Stefansen,
2021). This community want to promote sustainability and want youth to
understand importance of environment and its impact on the human life.

YWCA Lanyon is one of the most effective youth community centre that promote
youth development, this community centre focus on young people and their
activeness towards betterment of environment and their health, there are certain
reason why this community might want to work towards for example,
development of local community, educating youth and promoting emissionless
transportation, this community is promoting bicycle for one key reason, this is:
Emissionless transportation: YWCA Lanyon is focusing on promoting
emissionless transportation in the youth, this community is working to boost
awareness about bicycle that is not only sustainable but this will allow them to
promote health as well. The focus of this community is to provide bicycle to those
young people who do not own their bike or their bicycle is disrepair (Lillie and
et.al., 2020). This community project have certain benefit, this not only allow
yough to understand importance of emissionless transportation but this will allow
them to educate themselves regarding health and benefit they will get from
bicycle.

YWCA Lanyon is youth community centre that promote bicycle and its
importance in the betterment of environment as well as health of young people of
the country, this program will support bicycle awareness and will allow them to
cover Gungahlin and other nearby cities, there are certain key stakeholders that
will be collaborating with this project, these are:
SeeChange: SeeChange is one of the key stakeholders in this project or program,
this societal development consultancy organisation will provide financial help to
the community and completion of this program (Navas, D'Alisa and Martínez-
Alier, 2022). This group will help in crafting effective strategies and will going to
provide effective consultancy to manage this project.
Local community: local community will going to play vital role, community is key
stakeholders that will provide every kind of help in achievement of the project.

Local community will interfere in the process that means they might have higher
powerful to make certain changes, or they have power to completely stop this
project.
Describe the strategies you will use to to engage and communicate with the community and
other organisations it may work with.
Leadership: effective leadership is one of the best strategy to communicate with
the community, this simply means one leader have to provide clear direction to
stakeholders and other people that will be engaged in the project. This youth
development group need to promote leadership that will allow them to lead and
guide people towards one goal.
Empowerment: empowerment is another effective strategy that will help
community leader to\ engage and communicate with the community and other
organizations that might work with YWCA Lanyon. Through motivation and
empowerment to youth and people connected with this project, YWCA Lanyin can
achieve aims they have crafted.
Activities: small activities that allow youth and other stakeholders to engage in the
community project, for example arranging group meeting where every key
stakeholders and member of community will share their views and provide
recommendation in the improvement process (Raderstrong and Boyea-Robinson,
2016). Small activities or arranging small event will help this youth community to
boost engagement and allow stakeholders and other organisations to actively
participate in the process.

How will you involve the community and promote participation by community members
(DOING!)?
Shared vision: sharing vision of the community or about the project is one of the
best way to involve community and member, YWCA lanyon need share vision of
bicycle project that are going to implementation. Sharing clear vision will allow
youth to understand what exactly this program is and how this will impact them
personally. Leaders of the project need to provide effective presentation of vision
that means participant will valuable while joining this project, every barrier need
to be remover for example discrimination as this will help them to involve
community and push them to participate.
Highlight benefit: highlighting benefit of involving in the community and in
project will allow YWCA Lanyon to promote participation, this simply means
community member will feel valuable and beneficial if they participate in the
project. It is every clear that bicycle project of this community have certain benefit
for example; promoting emissionless transportation and promoting health of
youth. This youth development community can provide financial benefit investor
will going to have after completion of this program.
