Lastly, report will also define food production system, methods and style of food and beverage services. TASK 1 1.1 Discuss the size and scope of the conference and banqueting industryin the UK In recent times banqueting industry is growing rapidly in UK. This is because of high rise in growth of tourism sector. The banqueting industry is related to offering various services by organising an event. In UK since last 10 years there are many banqueting industry is highly contributing in GDP of nation (Mccreesh, Malik and Dean, 2016). It is estimated that in UK the average attendance in an event was 1.32 million. The hotels accounted for hosting 61% of business events including meetings, conference, office party, etc. Moreover, in UK there are 6650 small and medium companies operating with large hotels such as Marriott, Hilton, etc. By this huge revenue is been generated. Many new businesses are entering into this sector. There are various types of events such as, music shows, concerts, etc. In each activity are different. Now, UK has become an important business destination. There are many large hotels that provide event facilities. It is stated that 1.3 million corporate meetings are held annually. Furthermore, music shows and concerts, cultural events, etc. are organised. Thus, thescope of the conference and banqueting sector is also very wide and growing over the past 2-3 years. Now, event management is also part of this industry. This has allowed small business to enter and provide variety of services. Furthermore, integration of business and services has expanded scope of this industry. The events are held on various occasions (Maphosa, 2016) 1
1.2Analyse factors that have influenced its development An industry operates within a boundary that consists of both internal and external factors. So, if there occurs any change in the factors it highly impact on growth and development of industry. The factors are described below :- Political –Political issue have a great impact on banqueting and conference industry. It includes change in laws, tax policy, etc. in UK. It affect hospitality sector that directly influence banquet industry. The Brexit will bring political instability in UK. So, it will highly impact on banquet industry. Economical –It consists of GDP, currency rate, trade policies, etc. of a nation. These all control growth and development of business. The conference industry is rising rapidly in past 2 years. Thus, any change in these factors in UK will affect growth of banqueting industry. Social –They are related to social beliefs, social status, etc. of people living in UK. The people of UK celebrate every small and big event (Şahiner,2016). Besides this, there income level is high as well. This influence them to engage in various programmes and events. Change in taste and preference impact on this industry. Technological–It plays a vital role in business growth. UK is having advance technology that is used by businesses. It has resulted in huge growth of banqueting industry. Now, services are provided through software and application. Any advancement in technology will impact on conference sector. Businesses will have to update their IT infrastructure. So, this affects their operations. This is so obvious that technological advancement has advanced and contribute faster working within the enterprise. Legal –they are many policies and laws that has to be followed such as health and safety, licensing laws, etc. the business also have to identify what is legal and illegal. Any change in legal framework will enforce companies to formulate laws and operate in legal way. Hence, overall operations will be affected leading to decline in growth. Environmental –This factor plays crucial role in selecting location and venue of event. The UK government has imposed several laws related to planning of corporate events. They are also monitoring environmental impact of events. Now, it is affecting banquet industry to maintain sustainability. Environmental conditions of the place plays vital role in selecting place of corporate events. 2

This is because in event many operations are to be performed (Goossaert, 2015). Also, an effective strategy has to be developed to solve issues. Alongside it, setting of budgets is main concern. When funds are not available then it is difficult to manage event. Licensing laws-This is another issue involved in managing event. There may occur many disruptions related to get license. It affects the overall operations. Sometimes, the company does not get license and event may get cancelled if license is not given. Health and safety at place-There are several issues related to health and safety at workplace. The issue may occur related to quality of food, venue, surrounding, etc. (Muriithi, 2015) however, it may be difficult for business to maintain health and safety at place. Besides this, in providing training programmes operational issues are faced. Religious and cultural guidelines-In event it is necessary to maintain cultural ethics and values. But sometimes, business may be not follow the cultural ethics. In this issue may arise related to following cultural guidelines. 2.2 Discussion on performance and quality review techniques used by conference and banquet industry. It is necessary to maintain quality of activities in managing conference. For this there are many techniques available such as performance and quality review. This highly helps in precedinginaccordancewithprocedures(Goossaert,2015).Hence,theproductivityof hospitality business depends on the success of conference and business events. Thus, it is define in following manner as- Budget review- the funds and resources are allocated during planning. It is very crucial to review allocate funds to verify the cash requirements. Therefore, this is very important to allocate the adequate fund to banquets sector. 3
Food and drink review-It is one of the crucial segment of the event and this is must be framed by focussing over drink requirement of guest. Thus, by adding nutrition and dietary option in menu would attract the customers. Dress core review- for every event there is a proper dress code which represent the staff. Therefore, it should be uniform and proper and match with purpose of event. This leaves a great impression on guest. Henceforth, dress code will match with profile and culture at the event. Entertainment review- It is an essential part of banquet. Hence, the need must be carefully evaluating in terms to the test and experience of guest. This is systematic term that aids to attract the customers (Mccreesh, Malik and Dean, 2016). Table plan review-this allocate table to have a proper interior design and style that can be helpful in adding memories. Contingency plan review-in event sometimes issues can occur which delay the process of it. It can also impact the outsource programmes.
