Key management concepts for managing people and organizations
It can be stated that mangers play an important role in managing the people and the
organizations. Without the manager, it would be difficult for the company to accomplish the set
goals and objectives in the competitive market. A good manager is the one who control the
overall functional activities of the company and also they have the aim to boost the productivity
of the workers. The good manner focuses on boosting the motivation of the employees and also
supports them in the complex situations. The concept of modern management in relation to
modern organizations is to appoint manager who is dedicated towards the work of the company
(Holden, 2017).
It is examined that there should be some basic qualities that are required to be a good manager.
One of the qualities of being a great manager is related with having the skill to convey the
mission to other individuals. The good manager should have the skill to convey the mission to
the subordinates so that it could be easy to bring improvement in the overall operations of the
business. Having a mission is considered as the factor but to convey the mission is the important
skill that should be possessed in the manager (Harzing, Pudelko and Sebastian Reiche, 2016).
To be a good manager it is important that inspiring and convincing skill should be possessed.
This skill will help them managers to boost the performance of the company and also to bring
efficiency towards the set targets. It can be said that the great manager should be able to manage
the decisions effectively and also they should be capable enough of bearing the responsibility of
the choices that are good or bad. The activities should be prioritized in a proper manner as it will
help the manager to be responsible towards the organizational functions (Hagerma et al., 2015).
Courage is also one of the qualities that should be present in the manager as it will help the
managers to make the difficult decisions and also assist in facing the difficulties that arises in the
workplace. The manager who is having courage can manage the work and also the performance
of the employees in the workplace. So, it is important for the company to appoint the managers
who are capable enough to manage people and organizations. These are the qualities that should
be present in the manager so that they can be considered as the good manager (Borwick, 2018).

It is the duty of the manager to motivate the employees or the people for he or she is responsible.
There are many ways that should be taken into consideration by the managers to motivate the
employees so that they can give their best towards the allocated work. If the employees are not
able to give their best then one of the factors behind it relates with the motivation level of the
employees. So, it can be said that motivation is essential at the time of managing the employees
work in the workplace (Katsikea, Theodosiou and Morgan, 2015).
The different methods should be considered by managers such as training to motivate the people
he or she is responsible for. Training is the best approach on which the managers should
emphasizes on that new skills can be learned by the employees. It is necessary for the managers
to train its employees as it helps in bring improvisation in the overall working pattern of the
workers. Training gives in-depth understanding to the employees in relation to the allocated task
and motivates them to manage the work with efficiency and dedication. With proper training
given to the employees it could be easy for the management to boost the confidence of the
employees which will lead to high motivational level towards the work (Bengtsson, Raza-Ullah
and Vanyushyn, 2016).
To motivate the employees, Maslow hierarchy of needs is also the best approach that can help in
satisfying the basic needs of the workers. It is the approach that guides the managers to fulfill the
needs that are required by the management. There are five stages in Maslow hierarchy of needs
that should be considered by the managers so that it could be easy to boost the motivation level
of the employees. If the managers satisfy the needs of the workers then it assist in motivating the
workers towards the assigned work. The five stages in respect to Maslow hierarchy of needs are
Physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness needs, self-esteem and self-
actualization needs. These needs if fulfilled can boost the overall level of motivation among the
employees and also it can help in creating interest towards the work. The managers should
consider this motivational approach as it helps in satisfying the human needs and it can also
assist in boosting the happiness (Gentry, 2016). Therefore, this is one of the models that should
be considered by the managers so that motivation can be boosted.
If the organization doesn’t have line managers or the leaders then the company will never be able
to attain success. It can be argued that company requires leaders and there is no company that
works without leaders and managers. There are leaders in the workplace that focuses on

controlling the operations and focuses on boosting the growth of the business. It is said that
‘There is no organization without leaders”. Leaders are the one who emphasizes on routine
functions of the business. Leaders are important in the workplace as they are the one who
regulates the company with the aim of earning profits. In the present era, it can be argued that
without the leaders there is no organization that can survive for long time in the competitive
market. The competition level is so high that is there a need of the leader to guide and motivate
the employees to give their best. In relation to this it can be said that the leaders can consider the
democratic leadership approach in which the focus on giving freedom to the employees to take
their own decisions and to participate in the overall functions of the company. Democratic
leadership style can be considered by the leaders in which the employees of the group take active
role in the overall decision making process without involving the leaders. It is analyzed that
leaders have those skills and experience that are not with the employees and this only the reason
that they are called as the employees and leaders are known as leaders. So, in the modern
organizations the leaders has the main role in managing the overall operational functions and
without leaders or the managers the company will be considered as the unsuccessful company
with no growth and brand image in the market. To have an effective leader is considered as the
modern management concept and also it is related to modern organizations (Belias et al., 2015).
For example: One of the best example can be of the Apple company in which Tim Cook
considered the democratic managerial style in which the employees are free to take the decisions
and also they emphasize on he accepts majority of the decisions considered by the employees of
the company. In the present business world, Apple is considered as one of the successful
company and also the company with the good brand image in the market. By having good
leadership in the Apple Company the company is now one of the largest organizations on the
global platform. So, by this example it can be stated that leaders are important part of the
company and without leaders there is no company who will be able to attain growth and success
in the market.
But on the other hand, in case if there are no leaders or managers in the workplace and
employees are managing themselves then it will not able to accomplish the set goals and
objectives. The company will look like an unsuccessful organization with no scope to grow in
the highly competitive market. If there are no leaders or the managers in the workplace then the

activities of the company will not be coordinated and there will no existence of the organization
for the long time. The company without leadership will not be able to coordinate the activity and
will be known as the unsuccessful company. There are many rare cases when there are no leaders
or the line managers in the workplace. If there are no leaders then it would create difficulty
among the employees who are present in the workplace. The company who does not have
managers or the leaders is not considered as unsuccessful organization with no goals and
objective. For example: If all the employees are on the same platform with no position or work
division then there are more chances of the downfall in comparison of attaining growth in the
market. There comes a point in the organization when it would be difficult for the employees to
manage the work without the leaders or the managers. The coordination of the employees cannot
be maintained without the leaders or the managers. Therefore, it can be said that the company
will be considered as the unsuccessful organization if there are no leaders and line managers
(Daft, 2015).
But it can also be argued that there are various advantages of the companies with no leaders and
line managers. The employees can feel free to work as it has been observed that if there are
leaders or the line managers then there is high level of control over the activities of the company.
One of the advantages can be related to the flexibility in the working. When there are no leaders
and line managers in the workplace then employees work with their own flexibility and
according to their wish which is not correct. Also, the benefit that is availed by the employees
relates with the decision making process (Erickson, 2017).
When there are no leaders and managers then there are more chances of making fast decisions. It
can be analyzed that when there are leaders in the workplace, then employees has to follow the
set rules and policies but on the other hand, it can be stated that when there are no leaders or the
managers then employees can take their own decisions which helps in making quick decisions in
relation to the overall process of the activities. Accountability is also the factor which can be
maintained if there are no leaders or managers in the workplace. In the absence of the leaders or
the line managers the employees manage their work to attain the organizational success and also
it helps to maintain the different accountability. When there are no leaders in the workplace then
employees do what they want to do. They are free to manage the activities of the company
according to themselves. It has been observed that without leaders or the managers the

employees don’t have to face the criticism which is one of the benefits attained by the managers
(Culbert, 2017).
The employees have their own choice to conduct the activities if there are no leaders or the line
managers. There is no burden on the employees then they are able to give their best towards the
functional operations of the company. Leaders or the managers are the one who exercise control
over the employees but if they are not present in the workplace then employees does not face the
issue of any control or dictatorship at the time of conducting the overall operations of the
business. It can also be analyzed employees attain the benefits of maintaining the relations with
the other employees (Vandekerkhof et al., 2015).
When there are no leaders or the line managers then employees coordinate with each other so
that positive outcome can be attained. The employees in the workplace discuss each and every
factor with each other that helps them to create proper understanding and also focuses on
boosting the overall productivity level in relation to the assigned work by the management.
Therefore, it can be stated that by no having leaders or the line managers there are many
advantages that can be achieved by the employees at the time of managing the activities
(Caesens et al., 2016).
One of the problems and challenges can be related to lack of proper vision. If there are no leaders
or the managers then it would be difficult to execute the vision. It is the responsibility of the
managers or the leaders to set the vision but if there are no leaders or the managers then it will
create difficulty for the employees to implement the vision in the workplace. To set a vision is
one of the major issue that is faced by the employees and if there are no leaders and managers.
Creating a vision is the issue or the challenge that can take place in the organization in which
there is no involvement of the leaders or the line managers. If there are no set visions of the
company then it can lead to an unsuccessful organization (Afsar, Badir and Khan, 2015).
The challenge that can take place relates with the gap between the strategy and execution. The
companies are only successful when there is proper execution of the strategy in the workplace.
But if the leaders or the line managers are not present then it would be difficult to implement the
strategy and also at the time of execution it can be difficult to implement the strategy in the right
manner. The companies those who don’t have leaders or the line managers have to face the

problem in relation to the gap between the strategy and execution. So, it can be stated that it is
important for the company to have leaders and line managers so that proper execution of the
strategy can take place in the workplace. The leaders or the line managers are the one who give
guidance to the employees to consider the right action that is beneficial at the time of execution
of the strategy in the workplace (Arellano Caro, Meuer and Netland, 2018).
Retaining talent is also one of the major challenges that can take place in the workplace where
there are no leaders or the line manager. When the company does not have any leaders or the line
managers then it create difficulty to retain the employees. Retaining the employees in the
workplace can only be done when there are proper rules and regulations. But the company
without leaders does not have any rules and regulations so it creates difficulty for the employees
to give their best towards the organizational goals. Also, it sometimes leads to low productivity I
the workplace which can also affect the overall growth of the company in the competitive
market. If leaders and line managers are not present then the employees will face difficulty to be
efficient towards the assigned work. So, it can be said that if there are no leaders or the line
managers then it will be difficult to boost the productivity and also to retain the employees in the
workplace (Rezvani et al., 2016).
Increase in the conflicts between the employees is also the issue that takes place when there are
no leaders or the line managers. The conflict can take place between the employees if they have
different perception level or thinking pattern. It would create a serious issue for the employees
and also can impact the overall working structure of the employees. The employees who are
dedicated towards the work can also be deviated if there are no leaders or the line managers
present to control the overall functional activities of the company. Therefore, it can be examined
that this is the major issue that should be resolved so that positive results can be attained in
relation to the overall functional operations performed in the workplace (Noe et al., 2017).
There are different ways that should be considered so that these problems can be resolved or
managed effectively in relation to overall operations in the workplace. Setting rules and
regulations is one of the strategies that should be considered so that it could be easy for the
employees to manage the work within the set goals and objectives. If there are some rules and
regulations in the workplace then it can help the employees to perform better and also in a
systematic manner. Training is also the effective strategy that can help the employees to be

efficient towards the working pattern of the workers. It is also the method that can help in
retaining the employees and it is the best strategy to resolve such challenges that prevails in the
workplace. Effective training method should be considered in the workplace so that they
employees can get in-depth understanding of the activities that are performed in the workplace
(Mom, Fourné and Jansen, 2015).
Lack of vision is the challenge that can take place if there are no leaders or line managers in the
workplace. This is one of the issues that are important to be resolved so that the activities can be
conducted effectively and efficiently. If the vision is not set then employees will not be able to
give their best towards the goals and objectives but the qualified person or the employees should
set the vision in the workplace so that the other employees in the workplace can get the targets
that are important to be achieved. It can be said that this is one of the major challenge that can
only be resolved if proper rules and regulations are designed in the workplace (Laufer et al.,
2015).
It can be concluded that a good manager is the one who is dedicated towards the work and also
focuses on motivating the employees so that they can give their best towards the organizational
functions. There is a need of the good leader as it helps the company in accomplishing the goals
and objectives. Employees in the workplace should be motivated if Maslow hierarchy of needs
theory is considered by the line managers and leaders in the workplace. But if there are no
leaders or the managers then there are various challenges that can be faced such as gap between
the strategy and execution, retaining talents, Lack of vision and increase in the conflicts. So, to
reduce this it is important to focus on the strategies such as training and appointing the qualified
person in the workplace.
