CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION
Overview of the chosen topic
The time of covid 19 was so worst that all the business activity and operation are come at
stack. The organisation productivity and performance of the companies has impacted a lot and a
negative impact can be seen on it. Almost all the countries have put serval restriction due to
which the hospitality industry has seen a large footfall on their business (Andrews, Charlton and
Moore, 2021).
Background on the company
The selected organisation for conducting the above investigation is Holiday inn. It is an
American hotel chain which was founded in the year 1952 by Kemmons Wilson. It’s
headquartered is in Atlanta, United State. The study will be conducted in Holiday in situated in
Liverpool (Foroudi, Tabaghdehi and Marvi, 2021).

To identify the impact of Covid 19 on business performance and productivity of UK

Research problem
The main research problem that is faces on chosen organisation is the impact of Covid 19
on their business performance and productivity. The time of Covid 19 was worst for the
company as their customer base decrease (Kim and Liu, 2022). There is a footfall in their clients
due to the rise of virus and increasing concern among tourist. The hospitality sector is not able to
manage their business operation due to which their business performance and productivity
decreases to great extent (Wieczorek-Kosmala, 2021).

CHAPTER 2 METHODOLOGY
Research methodology
Research methodology can be defined as the systematic process to identify and analyse the
information. The data is being collected and evaluated in order to attain the aim and objective in
accurate manner. This section uses various philosophies, approaches, choices, data collection
method to gather and measure information as per the chosen topic. In the current investigation
researcher will be selecting quantitative information (Ratnam, 2019). The reason for this is that it
will helps in gathering and analysing numerical information so that valid and reliable
information can be acquired. The philosophy to gather numerical data will be positivism. As it
will helps in showing the current trend and pattern of the society. To test the hypothesis
deductive approach will be chosen because it will facilitate in evaluating existing information.
The research strategy that will be selecting is case study as it will help in collecting relevant data
of the chosen organisation. (Sileyew, 2019). To know the time of investing the researcher will be
selecting cross sectional time horizon as the overall research will be completed in shorter time
duration. In the existing investigation secondary data will be used as it will assist in gathering
data in easier manner as well as less cost will be incurred (Fidahic and et. al, 2020).
Gantt chart
It is that project management plan which is used by the researcher to show the activities that
is carried out in the overall investigation. It is bar chart which helps in showing the task along
with the start time and end time to complete one specific activity (VanKooten, 2019). Gantt chart
helps the investigator to perform the specific time within the allotted time so that overall
investigation can be completed with the given time framework. It displays the overall project,
deadline and the relationship between the various task.

What is the concept of business performance and productivity within organisation?
According to the view of Li, Ghosh and Nachmias (2020), Business performance is the
capability of the organisation to achieve its aim and objective in effective manner by delivering
goods and services to the customer as per their expectation and need. In recent time where
competition is high it is very important to meets the needs and wants of the buyers in order to
improve organisational performance and productivity (Yu, Park and Hyun, 2021).
What are the impact of Covid 19 on business performance and productivity of Holiday Inn
(Liverpool)?
As per the view of Papadopoulos, Baltas and Balta (2020), there were negative impact of
Covid 19 on the business performance and productivity of the Holiday inn. At the time of
pandemic, the company has seen a high employee turnover in the hotel which affect their
productivity in worst manner. Another impact of Covid 19 is on the customer base of the hotel.
The customer base of the company has fallen down due to various restriction imposed by the
legal authority on the mobility of the tourist (Marco-Lajara and et. al, 2021).
What is strategy used by Holiday Inn (Liverpool) to overcome from the impact of Covid 19 and
improving their business performance and productivity?
According to the view Manuel and Herron (2020), there were many different strategy and
ways adopted by Holiday inn in order to overcome from the crisis. The first strategy that is
adopted by the hotel is providing sanitizing facility at each and ever corner of the hotel (Khan
and et. al, 2021). Various sanitiser machines were installed so that they can reduce the fear of
risk among employee and customer. Next strategy that is implemented by the hotel ins taking
online booking so that they can minimise more human interaction at the time of Covid 19
(Keogh-Brown and et. al, 2020).
What are the advantage gained by Holiday Inn (Liverpool) by implementing various strategy on
improving business performance and productivity?
According to the McCann and Vorley (2021), Holiday inn has gained various advantage
after the implication of Strategy. The first advantage they receive is improve organisational
productivity by installing machine which helps the employee to work with less fear and with

more energy. Another was gaining market image by following all the norms at the time of Covid

Data findings
Graph 1: Gross revenue of holiday inn
From the above graph it is clearly seen that the gross revenue of the Hotel at the time of covid 19
that is in 2020 has less as compared to other normal year. This is because the customers are
booking any rooms. This hinder their performance in grretaer manner. In the year 2020 the gross
revenue of the hotel was just 2.8 billion dollar. Which means that the revenue was low as
compared to expenses incurred by the company. As compred to past year that is in 2019 the
gross revenue was 6. 3 billion dilloar which was much more higher than 2020. The pandmic has
fallen the revenue of the hotel by three fourth which means that company is not able to genertae
enough revenue for themselves.

From the above graph it is being analysed that the impact of covid 19 was worst for the holiday
inn. The company has seen a drastic decline in the international tourist after the hit of pandemic.
In each year the tourist base of the Holiday inn in Liverpool has seen a footfall. The majority of
the change was seen in the month of April and May. This is because these two were the month in
which the number of covid case rise which has put serval restriction on passenger. So due to the
organisational performance of the company has also decreases due to reduction in the production
of the hotel.

Theme 1: Impact of Covid 19 on business performance and productivity of Holiday Inn
(Liverpool)
Interpretation: From the above literature review it is being discussed that the impact of
Covid 19 was very drastic for the Holiday inn. It has seen that almost each and every department
and operation of Holiday inn has negatively impact by the crisis. The customer base, revenue,
profit all has fallen down. The most affected area was decline in the employee rate of the
Holiday inn during the pandemic.

Interpretation: From the above accumulated piece of secondary information, it is
discussed that there is various strategy implemented and design by Holiday in to improve the
business performance and productivity in Liverpool. The first strategy they adopt is installing
various sanitizing machine in every corner of the hotel. Another they design is taking online
booking and payment so that they can minimise contact and provide a safer environment to their
customer and employee.
Theme 3: Advantage gained by Holiday Inn (Liverpool) by implementing various strategy on
improving business performance and productivity
Interpretation: With the assemble information it is discussed that the major advantage
that is gained by Holiday in by implementing the strategy are improver organisational
performance by adopting remote working and digital software. Another advantage is regaining
customer base by attracting tourist towards the hotel. By adopting the ways they are regaining
their profit and increasing the revenue.

From the above gathered data it is being concluded that the Covid 19 time was where worst
for the company. At this time the organisational performance and productivity has decreased in
larger manner. Almost all the activity and operation has seen a footfall due to reduction in the
customer base. Thus, the covid 19 has negative impact of performance and productivity of
hospitality industry.
