Introduction
Innovative strategy in business is one of the major concept which needs to be followed by
organization around the world. Alibaba Group have implemented various innovative strategies in
it which have led the company in becoming one of the leading company in e-commerce. The
various leadership qualities of Jack Ma have taken the company to its potential heights. With the
implementation of various policies like taking care of the company to the inclusion of smart
technologies in the company, Jack have influenced the company in many ways. Owing to these
various strategies the company is currently the leading online firm in the world (Tan, Pan, Lu &
Huang, 2015).
How innovation and strategy works together
With the increasing changes in the customer needs and market condition it is important
for Alibaba Group to bring in innovation in its strategy. For its growth and survival in the
company have implemented open innovation in its management. One of the innovative strategies
which is followed by Alibaba is to collaborate with the Starbucks and install electronic payment
solution in the infrastructure of the coffee shops. This step kept the company ahead of its
competitor Tencent which was also aiming in gaining full partnership with Starbucks in
implementing certain technologies in the company (Peng et al., 2016). One of the major
innovative strategy which was implemented by Alibaba in 2017 was “Alibaba DAMO academy”
which was aimed in investing more in the R&D department in the coming next three years
(Greeven & Wei, 2017). With the extension of the company in different parts of the world it is
important for them to come up with innovation in its followed strategies. The DAMO academy
was aimed for opening a total of 7 labs in China, Singapore, United States, Israel and Russia
(Tan, Pan, Lu & Huang, 2015).
