INTRODUCTION
In recent times, there has been high rise in number of crimes in England and Wales. This is
becoming a concern for government as well as public. Also, there are certain strict measures
which are being taken by UK government in order to prevent crime rates. Along with that, some
laws and guidelines are formed for it (Bell, Hodgson, and Pragnell, 2019). The criminals are not
being tracked by police. Basically, there are different types of crime prevention strategies which
are formed and applied by government. The strategies depend on level of crime rates.
In this essay it will be described about primary, secondary and tertiary crime prevention
strategies in England and Wales.
MAIN BODY
In every country the main purpose of government and police is maintain law and order. This is
done to ensure that crimes do not happen. For that there are various law and policies that is
formed in case to punish criminals. A criminal justice system is series of government agencies
and institutions that is engaged in prevention of crime. It also consists of police, courts, lawyers,
etc. the main purpose of criminal system is to deal with criminals. In UK there is a proper
criminal justice system which contain many agencies and institutes. They work together to
ensure that crimes are prevented and deal with other things. But since past few years there has
been high rise in crime rates in England and Wales (Greely, and Farahany, 2019). The agencies
are not able to prevent crime.
Thus, in order to prevent crime there are various strategies that has been developed by
government. The main purpose of strategy is to deal with entire criminal justice system.
Therefore, the strategies are being categorised as primary, secondary and tertiary. These all apply
in different way in different context of preventing crime.
Primary – this is main prevention strategy because prevention starts from here. The main
purpose of primary strategy is general well being of individual. In this there are several strategies
which has been taken by government. Here, they are focusing on finding out physical and social
environment due to which crime occurs. Thus, for that they have designed out various programs
that is launched in school and communities. Here, it has been identified that there are 10
principles which is formed in context of strategy. They are target hardening, target removal,
access control, surveillance, etc. these all are the primary way to prevent crime in nation. It has
allowed agencies and institutes to work as per these principles and ensure crimes are prevented.
