INTRODUCTION
Management process is the organizational process for setting goals, planning and controlling
organizational processes. BMW is the chosen organization in this report, BMW is the leading
brand within the automobile sector which tend to provide luxury vehicles to wide range of
customers. Evaluation on the management processes within BMW is being done within this
report, also with that analysis on leadership style being chosen by company in context to macro
environmental conditions is also being evaluated.
PART A
Critical analysis of management processes of BMW
In regard to management it can be said that a way of managing all activities of company
plays a vital role. It helps companies in improving their performance and monitoring
performance in an effective manner. In the context of BMW, it is found that it mainly focuses on
its leadership styles and all functions of management such as: planning, organizing, staffing and
controlling.
Management: It is important to understand what is management before discussing its
importance in improving performance. It refers a process of controlling or dealing with people
and things.
Leadership: It is a process or actions of leading a group of people of an organization that plays a
vital role (Gardner and et.al., 2020).
Difference between leaders and managers
Leaders and managers both are known as main pillars for company’s success but still there are
some differences between these both. Some common differences that can help us out in knowing
importance of focusing on both leadership and management at workplace such as:
Leadership styles and theories play a vital role in motivating employees and making them
able to support company in accomplishing goals. An effective way of leading employees is the
main key of success of BMW. I also found that leadership styles are being followed for
improving relations with employees and making them feel valued. Whereas Management styles
are being used for getting work done and increasing productivity. It helps company in increasing
staff retention rate within business. Overall, it can be said that leadership styles are relationship
oriented and management styles are task oriented in BMW.

In addition, I found from case study of BMW that it facilitates numerous partners across
the globe and follows matrix organizational structure. In this type of structure employees have
more than 1 boss and they help employees in getting their work done in an effective manner.
Democratic: It is found that BMW follows democratic leadership style. As per this style
of leadership, they give opportunities to all employees in participating in the process of decision
making (Fiaz, Su and Saqib, 2017). It is believed by leader of this company that when employees
are being given such opportunities then it motivates them and makes them feel valued. This is
the reason as in many situations, leaders follows this style. They take suggestions from all
employees and on the basis of their suggestions; the final decision is being made. It improves
decision making process and also increase trust among employees.
Situational Style: It is believed that as per the situations of company, leaders need to
change their style of leading to employees as there is no single style of leadership that can be fit
in all types of situations. For example: if there is a lack of time then leaders need to select
autocratic leadership and by taking decisions as per their own, they need to submit their projects
in a timely manner. There are 4 types of styles under situational that can be used and as per this
style, leaders of BMW change their style of leading such as:
Telling: It is the lowest level of leadership style as when employees are new in organization and
does not know how to perform functions then they need direction. At that time leaders need to
use this style of leadership for leading employees and telling them about ways of performing
functions.
Selling: It addresses followers who have developed some competence with an improved
commitment. Employees at this stage become cooperative and at this stage the main focus of
leaders is on completion of task. Accordingly, he tells and builds trust among employees in order
to get work done (Clarenbach, 2020).
Participating: In this type of leadership style, leaders focus on followers who become competent
at their job but still there is inconsistency and leaders need to engage them. For increasing
engagement, leaders cooperate and participant with followers and help them out in completing
their tasks. It reduces errors in tasks of employees that boost their confidence and makes them
feel valued. Leaders also make sure that work is being done as per the level required for
completion.
