TASK
Different stages of the national curriculum from Early Years through to Year 12
National curriculum is prepared for different year groups, within each stage, students will take
standardised exam which are based on school years and level(King and Reiss, 2020). There are
five stages are included for early stage to 12. These stages are mentioned below:
Early year foundation stages: Early year foundation stages is defined as the set
standards of learning as well as get children used to school before proper lessons which
are start in year 1. In this stage children mostly learn from games and play. Children in
this stage are ages up to 5 years old.
Stage one: Stage one covers child’s time in year 1 as well as year 2 who are known as
infant.
Stage two: In second stage of national curriculum covered children are year 3, year 4,
year 5 and year 6. It is divided in two stages which includes lower KS2 (Year 3 and 4)
and upper KS2 (Year 5 and 6).
Stage three: In third stage part of secondary education which covers students age
between 7 to 9. In the age group of 9, students have to select their subject according to
their will over the course of KS4. These subject exams are taken at the end of year to
examine student capabilities.
Stage four: In this stage eight to ten subject are included with some compulsory subjects
like English, Science and Mathematics.
Explain the subjects covered in Key Stages 1 and 2
There are various subjects are covered in stage 1 and 2 in national curriculum that plays
important role in growth and development of students (Anderson and Gatwiri, 2021). Subjects
which are covered are mentioned below:
Stage one: In this stage students take standard assessment tests which includes core
subjects such as English reading and grammar, Mathematics. Tests are conducted at the end of
year 1 about their abilities with letters and sounds. In this stage includes child who are age
between 1 to 2 years.
Stage two: In this stage included subjects are Maths, English reading and grammar are
covered in national curriculum. Students are evaluated through taking tests in these subjects that
